Taylor, Maxwell Millard “Max” – Peacefully at Shalom Village with family by his side, Max passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2014 in his 86th year. He will be dearly loved and missed by his wife Pat of 62 years; son Robert (Judy); daughter Lisa Nicholson (Steve); grandchildren, Leah, Zachary and Kara; brother William (Ruth); sisters-in-law, Audrey Lightfoot and Irene Hoe; many nieces and nephews and his friends and neighbours at St. Elizabeth’s Village. Predeceased by his brother Laverne and his wife Ethel and sister June Gregeroff. Max was a member of the Dufferin Masonic Lodge, loved sports and his many years of playing hockey and baseball in Dundas and Greensville. Max enjoyed his time spent with the “Barn Owls” and ukulele group. Max retired from Ontario Hydro after 39 years of service as a Linesman. Special thank you to the caring staff at Shalom Village for making Max’s short stay very peaceful. Friends will be received by the family on Tuesday evening, May 27th from 6-9 p.m. at the Cattel, Eaton & Chambers Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas. Interment will take place on Wednesday, May 28th at Grove Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. If you so wish, donations to the Juravinski Cancer Centre or the Cancer Assistance Program (CAP) would be appreciated by the Family.

Sanders, Rachel Bernice (nee Almas) – With saddened hearts we announce the passing of our dear mother Bernice on Friday, May 16, 2014 at the Hamilton General Hospital in her 93rd year. Predeceased by her husband George (1997). Dearly loved by her son Brad (Dominique) and daughter Kim Sanders-Gonzalez (Juan Gonzalez): grandchildren Chad Sanders (Alexandra Feswick), Danielle (Mike Dunlop), Justin Hayes, Dylan Hayes,and Chase Hayes; and many loving nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her sister Marie. Bernice was a family oriented woman. She loved to garden, enjoy her dogs, loved to smile and laugh and was very fond of keeping traditions like her Saturday shopping sprees and special occasion family gatherings at her home. In her earlier years she enjoyed horseback riding with her husband and built a life in the family home that she and her husband built on Rock Chapel Road. A special thank you for the wonderful care from the staff at Blackadar Retirement Home and to the staff at the Hamilton General Hospital. Friends will be received by the family on Tuesday afternoon and evening from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Cattel, Eaton & Chambers Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas where Bernice’s Service will take place on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. Interment Hamilton Cemetery. Erkelens, Margaretha “Margaret” (nee den Hartog) – At her home in her 92nd year, Margaret passed peacefully away on May 5, 2014. Predeceased by her husband Christiaan (1999). She will be dearly loved and remembered by her children Peter (Kenna), Nick (Violet), Christina (Peter Worron) and John (Kim). Survived by her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brother, sisters and their families, as well as many other relatives in Holland. Margaret will be dearly remembered by her best friend Ruth and her loving dog Peppy. Margaret was born in TerAar, Holland on October 20, 1922 and came to Canada in 1952. Her love for life and her hobbies were her family. Friends will be received by the family on Thursday afternoon and evening, May 8, 2014, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Cattel, Eaton & Chambers Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas. Cremation will follow. A private graveside interment will take place at a later date at Mt. Zion Cemetery. If you so wish, donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.

Passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Villa on May 2, 2014 in his 91st year. Beloved husband of Betty (Buttery). Predeceased by his first wife Nora Garvey. Father of Peter, stepfather of Sharron Brown (Rick). Grandfather of Lesley Bellavia (Joe), Jason, Jaymie Batardeh (Rob) and Scott Brown (Elisa). Great grandfather of Curtis, Gabrielle, Lucas, Ben, Maddie and Max. Survived by sister in law Joan Prowse and brothers in law Bert Simpson and Harold Prowse. Predeceased by several brothers in law and sisters in law. Cremation has taken place. A service will take place at the Cattel, Eaton & Chambers Funeral Home, 53 Main St., Dundas on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at 12 p.m. with visitation beginning one hour prior at 11 a.m. If so desired, donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association or Alzheimer Foundation would be appreciated.

Battersby, Elsie (Heywood) – Passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at the John Noble Home in Brantford in her 99th year, surrounded by her daughter Lola, granddaughter Josie and her husband Alex Law and her great-granddaughters and their spouses Jenny (Andrew), Amanda (Jeff) and Katie (Kevin). Elsie was the beloved wife of the late Launce (1991) and much loved mother of Nat (Helen) of Ottawa, Isabelle Park (the late Roy), Fort Erie, and Lola Brooks of Hamilton. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great granddaughters. Predeceased by her parents Wesley and Mary Ann Heywood, her sisters Jessie Radar and Bessie Campbell and her grandson Michael Park (1983). Elsie was born September 23, 1915 on the family farm in Usborne Twp. Exeter, ON. Cremation has taken place. As per Elsie’s wishes a graveside service at the Exeter Cemetery will take place on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 12 o’clock. The family would like to thank the staff of John Noble Home Grand Terrace for the wonderful and compassionate care given to Elsie during her 2-1/2 year stay with them. Perky left us in the same manner she lived: with faith and grace. Predeceased by her husband Clare (2000) with whom she enjoyed 57 years of marriage. Dedicated and loving mother of: Diane Scott (David), Howie, Julie Gregg (Andy), Wendy (John Taylor), Mary Lou, Bev Wing (Paul), Linda Vanderhout (Dwayne), and Ron. Devoted grandmother of Sean Scott (Julia), Carolyn Shaw (Greg), Jessie and Ian Gregg, Jane, Leah and Shelley Vanderhout, and Kirby Taylor. Wonderful great grandmother of Zoe, Amon and Ryan. Survived by her dear sister Gibby McLeod; predeceased by her sister Muriel Edgar. Remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Perky was raised in Regina and went on to graduate from the University of Manitoba (1939, Home Economics). She worked as a Registered Dietitian until after WWII when she and Clare started their family. Her tireless lifestyle included Pi Beta Phi, Red Cross Sewing, CWL and numerous other charitable causes. She actively encouraged her family and friends to participate in skating, golf, skiing, yoga, gardening and crafts. “PERKY” was her apt lifelong nickname! Her patience, common sense, organizational skills and boundless energy will continue to provide inspiration to all. She exercised moderation in everything except for having children and showing love and kindness to others. We are truly grateful to everyone who filled Perky’s life with happiness. Cremation has taken place. Friends are invited to gather on Friday, June 20 from 3-6 p.m. at The Hamilton Golf and Country Club, 232 Golf Links Road, Ancaster.

Ritchie, Dorothy Gladys May – passed away peacefully on Monday April 21, 2014 in her 90th year at Extendicare Hamilton. Dorothy was daughter of the late Omer Vernon Ritchie and Rose Ritchie, and sister of the late Muriel McKinlay. Dorothy was dear aunt of Barbara-Anne (Mark), Janice Johnson, John, Laura (Sygnan), James (Corrine) and great nieces and nephews Tina, Briana, Derek, Matthew, Dayton and Reece. Dorothy was an accomplished pianist and teacher and after receiving her Diploma form the University of Toronto, Royal Conservatory of Music she taught piano and drama at the Hamilton Conservatory of Music as well as working as a legal secretary. Dorothy was very proud of her students, some of whom won prestigious music awards. Cremation has taken place. A committal service will take place at Grove Cemetery,129 ½ York Road, Dundas, on Monday, April 28th at 11:30 a.m.

Waud, James Edwin George – With his family by his side, James passed away peacefully on Monday, April 21, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Hospital at the age of 76. He will be dearly loved and missed by his wife Ruth of 54 years; his children David, Jeff and Michele (John Pacheco); grandchildren Lauren, Ryan, Ian, Daryl and Andrew and his brother Gary and sister Janice. James was a dedicated employee of the Dominion Stores for over 40 years. A special thank you to Dr. Ingram and Nurse Mike at the Nephrology Dept. at St. Joseph’s Hospital and to the Stoney Creek Dialysis Team. In keeping with James’ wishes, cremation has taken place. Armstrong, Janet E. – of Dundas passed peacefully on Apr.19,2014. Beloved wife of Keith (predeceased), dear mother of Steve (Lynn), Dave and Linda (Blake). Adoring grandmother of Rachel, Evan, Kori and Taya. Dearly loved aunt of Mary Ellen and Gary Lefebvre and their family Michael (Nicole, Colin & Amie) and Stephanie (Ozan, Ella & Zachary). Brother Bob Wade (Helen) and his family Scott and Wendy Wade (Bethany and Matthew), Shelley Laloni (Shaelyn & Aaron) and Rob Wade. Janet spent many years volunteering for the Canadian Cancer Society, Meals on Wheels and Wentworth Lodge just to name a few. Friends will be received by the family Friday evening from 7-9 p.m. and again on Saturday April 26th from 1:00 p.m. until the time of Janet’s Celebration of Life & light refreshments at 2:00 at the Cattel, Eaton & Chambers Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas. Janet will rejoin her beloved Keith at Victoria Memorial Gardens (Garden M, section 225), 1185 Hwy #3, Windsor ON., Monday April 28th at 1:00pm all welcome. A Celebration of Life & reception at Victoria Greenlawn Funeral Home will follow the grave side service. MacLean, Kenneth “Lloyd” – Suddenly at his home on Wednesday, April 16, 2014, in his 79th year. Beloved husband of the late Eleanor (2005). Lloyd will be sadly missed by his sons Darrell (Kate) and Glenn (Megan), his grandchildren Kirsten, Ben and Sam, Eleanor’s brothers Martin (Heather) and Norman (Tina), sister Gwen (Andy), and sister-in-law Joan (Lloyd LaRose). Also sadly missed by his good friend Steve Panciuk. Lloyd was a member and Past Master of Dufferin Lodge #291 AF & AM and was a long time member of Christ Church, Greensville. A former PGA card holder, Lloyd retired from Stelco after 36 years and landed his dream career working at Dundas Valley Golf and Curling Club. Lloyd was always willing to help – no request was too small nor inconvenient and his generosity will be forever remembered. Friends will be received by the family on Wednesday afternoon and evening from 2-4 & 7-9 with a Masonic Lodge Service taking place at 9 p.m. at the Cattel, Eaton & Chambers Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas. Funeral Service Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock at CHRIST CHURCH, 92 Highway 8, Greensville. Cremation has taken place.
