December 22, 1931 – February 7, 2020
Heaven is a brighter place. Embraced by her loving family, on February 7, 2020 Adelia (Velenosi) Settimi, in her 89th year, was reunited with her husband Frank. Loving and devoted mother of Ann Marie and Angelo Vecchi, and Perry and Pieta Settimi. Most adored Nonni of Lisa and Dave Kowalyk, Julie and Billy Hall, Nicole Settimi, Cathleen Settimi and Aaron Michon. Proud and cherished Granny of Anthony, Dylan, Sabrina, and Elena. Adelia was born December 22, 1931 to Sestina and Pietro Velenosi in Rosara, Ascoli Piceno, Italy. She moved to Canada in 1950 where, through mutual friends, she met her beloved husband Frank. They were married almost 65 years when Frank passed away in 2019. Her first job in Canada was working for St. Joseph’s Hospital in the surgical supply unit putting kits together for surgeons. She also worked for Windsor Wafers. Adelia was very proud to volunteer at St. Joseph’s Hospital. She then decided to focus all her efforts on raising their adored children, Ann Marie and Perry. Adelia’s greatest treasures were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She affectionately called them her “Toadies” as she gave them her “raspberry kisses”. She loved creating memories with them like playing cards and painting nails, and also teaching them to cook and bake. They will miss Nonni’s specialities like gnocchi, vingigrasse (a lasagne-style dish from Le Marche), stuffed olives, and her lemon cookies and toasted cookies. We have visions of the miles and miles of home-made pasta drying all over the house. No one ever left Nonni’s hungry. Adelia had a quiet strength and was a devout Catholic. Those who knew her called her a sweetheart for she had such a kind and loving heart. She made you feel special. She enjoyed spending time with people whether over a cup of coffee, or catching up by telephone. Adelia also loved to sing and dance. We hope that she is dancing again. Predeceased by her siblings and their spouses Amelio and Emidia Velenosi, Filippo and Wilma Velenosi, Maria and Ernesto Giorgi, Elena and Pietro Cicchi, Peter Velenosi, and her twin brother Leone Velenosi. Remembered by her sisters-in-law Elisa Velenosi and Verniece Anderson-Pay. Dear sister-in-law of Mario (deceased) and Maria Settimi, Giuseppe (deceased) and Rita Settimi, Laurina and Gino (deceased) Latini, Maria and Emilio (deceased) Cesarini, Ruggiero and Annie Settimi, Pierina and Valentino (deceased) Pascucci, and Ottavio and Vincenza Settimi. Adelia will be missed and forever loved by all those who had the pleasure to know her. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Augustine’s Parish, 58 Sydenham Street, Dundas. Interment to follow at Our Lady of Victory Mausoleum at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In honour of Adelia’s wishes there will be no visitation or reception. If desired, donations can be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation or Camp Trillium.
