Hunter, Nan (nee Murphy)
August 4, 1934 to December 25, 2020
Sadly, on Christmas Day, in her 86th year, Nan passed away at St. Joseph’s Villa in Dundas, Ontario. Nan will be reunited with her husband and soul mate Stan, who passed away in May 1996. Much loved mother of Martin (Peg) and Linda (Doug) and grandmother of Heather and Thomas, Nan was born and raised in the Bannfoot, Portadown, County Armagh, Northern Ireland. Nan is survived by her sisters Maria, Olive, Myrtle and Eileen and her brother John all of whom reside still, in Northern Ireland.
As a young woman, Nan worked in a sewing factory in Portadown for several years before deciding to move to England to look for work. While there she met Stanley Hunter and in due course they were married and started a family. The next step in their life adventure together was a move to Canada which became permanent except for one short return move back to England. Once settled back in Canada, Stan worked as a structural engineer while Nan focussed on raising the children and maintaining the home along with doing some occasional domestic work outside the home. She was skilled at keeping a spotless and organized home.
After Stan died in 1996 Nan was on her own. A difficult year. In 1997 when her son and his wife decided to move to Canmore, Alberta they asked Nan if she wanted to join them. She responded with a resounding “Yes!” This became a typical response from Nan in the coming years. She was always willing to take that next step if there was someone to take it with her. The three of them lived in Alberta for 5 1/2 years and then moved to Vancouver Island for 8 1/2 years before returning to Ontario to live in Dundas. While living in Alberta and on Vancouver Island Nan did some volunteering in senior’s care on the Long Term Care Unit at the Canmore Hospital and at Cairnsmore Place an Extended Care Facility in Duncan, BC. Wherever she went she was fast to make friends. She learned everybody’s names and had the gift of being an excellent listener. So many people she befriended described her as sweet and kind.
Nan’s stay at St. Joseph’s Villa in Dundas began just over 3 1/2 years ago. In that time she managed to build many new relationships with staff and fellow residents. We loved so much how the staff appreciated her for who she was. She was treated with kindness, dignity and respect. As her health deteriorated, they provided gentle, competent support. We will be forever grateful to them for this.
A special mention must be made of Eleanor and Earl Somerville and their daughter Lisa from Portadown, N. Ireland. Eleanor (Nan’s niece) and her family took Nan on many trips to Florida and visited her and us in Canada every two years, keeping Nan well connected with her Irish family. Also deserving of special mention for their love and support of Nan are Susan Scriver Kenel and Connie and Len Wickens of Dundas. They entertained her and contributed to her happiness in so very many ways.
Cremation has taken place and Nan will be interred with her husband at Halton Hills Memorial Gardens in Burlington. Hopefully, sometime in 2021 a celebration of life with family and friends can take place. If so desired a donation to the Ontario SPCA or to the Saint Joseph’s Villa Foundation in Dundas would be appreciated.

Of Dundas, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2020 at St. Joseph’s Villa in her 96th year. Born on April 27, 1925 she is predeceased by her parents Murray and Grace Crockett, and by her brother Jim and sister-in-law Barb. A genuine person, she was someone who dearly loved and treasured her family and friends throughout her life. She enjoyed and was fulfilled by her career as a Special Education teacher with the Hamilton Wentworth School Board for many years. As someone who cheered for the underdog, fought for the marginalized, loved all creatures great and small, she shared what she had with those in need. She will be missed by many, remembered by those whose life she impacted, and welcomed by those she loved who have gone on ahead. We celebrate her life, and are thankful she was in ours. Our Kath (aka Zippy, Zee, Mama Zip) took flight to other realms on Tuesday afternoon. A perfect day for her to choose, December 1, 2020 a fresh layer of snow covering everything in sight and the start of her favourite time of year. A wonderful Mom to Karly and Katelyn, loving partner to Vi, forever the big sister to Becky and aunt to Danny & Bobby, raised in Dundas by, and daughter to, proud parents Sheryl & Lyle Fairfield. Also known as the Terraware maven, the designer of luxury clothing for her wide reaching and eco-minded customers. She will be loved and hugely missed by so many friends, family and community members. Such a charismatic, generous hearted and social being who loved her people, and spending time with them. A mentor to some, a place of safety for many, always ready to discuss, debate, drink wine and laugh! When the snow has melted and the flowers are blooming there will be a chance to come together to celebrate Kath’s life in the way she would want it to be. Donations to the 
It is with sadness we announce the passing of our mother Jessie Dunlop at St. Joseph’s Villa on Friday, December 4, 2020. Predeceased by her husband George and sister Ruth. She will be remembered always by her sons Jim, Howard (Laura) and Tom and grandchildren Evan and Connor, and niece Louise Foucher, nephews Melvin, David and William Foucher. Jessie is a retired employee of Regional Medical Associates at McMaster University and was a very involved individual who had many interests. At this time cremation has taken place and a celebration of Jessie’s life will be held at a later date when all can be together. If you so wish, donations to a charity of your choice in Jessie’s memory would be appreciated by the family.
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of Gary Zuk on November 30, 2020 in his 75th year.Beloved son to the late Thomas and Martha Zuk (nee Mushumanski), loving partner to Ann, second father to Mary-Anne, Anthony (Janee) and Monica (Tony) and grandpa to seven grandchildren, Brianna, Dianna, Eliana, Antonio, Ethan, Landon & Emmy. Gary was born in Sudbury before his family moved to Bealton where they owned the General Store. In the late 50’s the family moved and settled in Westdale, Hamilton. Despite the adversities he faced with Cerebral Palsy and hearing impairment, Gary could walk and run like the wind. He attended Park Business College and then obtained his Accounting Diploma from Mohawk College. He shared stories of his adventures around Westdale and Churchill Park, walking the trails to McMaster. He had an amazing sense of humour and could make anyone laugh with his quick wit. He had a love for Bible writing, big band and jazz music, chess, Walker’s chocolate, and cruising with his soulmate Ann. He truly enjoyed life, loved his family and had the warmest most generous heart. When Gary’s health took a turn he moved to the Strathcona neighbourhood. Here he met his second family with the Good Shepherd Assisted Living Program. He truly loved and appreciated each and every one of the Personal Support Workers, staff and volunteers who helped him with his daily living needs. He enjoyed chatting and laughing with the men’s group and looked forward to special events hosted by the Assisted Living Program. During Gary’s final weeks, he was loved and cared for by many with dignity and grace. Warm thanks to our Strathcona neighbours who prepared and delivered healthy delicious meals and to the McMaster Family Practice Team. Gary spent his final days at Emmanuel House Hospice where he took the Lords hand in comfort. Words cannot express the gratitude the family has for the Good Shepherd. We started together and we ended together. Keeping within the directives in place due to Covid-19, a private visitation and Service for Gary will be held. Interment White Chapel Memorial Gardens.
