Our Kath (aka Zippy, Zee, Mama Zip) took flight to other realms on Tuesday afternoon. A perfect day for her to choose, December 1, 2020 a fresh layer of snow covering everything in sight and the start of her favourite time of year. A wonderful Mom to Karly and Katelyn, loving partner to Vi, forever the big sister to Becky and aunt to Danny & Bobby, raised in Dundas by, and daughter to, proud parents Sheryl & Lyle Fairfield. Also known as the Terraware maven, the designer of luxury clothing for her wide reaching and eco-minded customers. She will be loved and hugely missed by so many friends, family and community members. Such a charismatic, generous hearted and social being who loved her people, and spending time with them. A mentor to some, a place of safety for many, always ready to discuss, debate, drink wine and laugh! When the snow has melted and the flowers are blooming there will be a chance to come together to celebrate Kath’s life in the way she would want it to be. It is with sadness we announce the passing of our mother Jessie Dunlop at St. Joseph’s Villa on Friday, December 4, 2020. Predeceased by her husband George and sister Ruth. She will be remembered always by her sons Jim, Howard (Laura) and Tom and grandchildren Evan and Connor, and niece Louise Foucher, nephews Melvin, David and William Foucher. Jessie is a retired employee of Regional Medical Associates at McMaster University and was a very involved individual who had many interests. At this time cremation has taken place and a celebration of Jessie’s life will be held at a later date when all can be together. If you so wish, donations to a charity of your choice in Jessie’s memory would be appreciated by the family.

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of Gary Zuk on November 30, 2020 in his 75th year.Beloved son to the late Thomas and Martha Zuk (nee Mushumanski), loving partner to Ann, second father to Mary-Anne, Anthony (Janee) and Monica (Tony) and grandpa to seven grandchildren, Brianna, Dianna, Eliana, Antonio, Ethan, Landon & Emmy. Gary was born in Sudbury before his family moved to Bealton where they owned the General Store. In the late 50’s the family moved and settled in Westdale, Hamilton. Despite the adversities he faced with Cerebral Palsy and hearing impairment, Gary could walk and run like the wind. He attended Park Business College and then obtained his Accounting Diploma from Mohawk College. He shared stories of his adventures around Westdale and Churchill Park, walking the trails to McMaster. He had an amazing sense of humour and could make anyone laugh with his quick wit. He had a love for Bible writing, big band and jazz music, chess, Walker’s chocolate, and cruising with his soulmate Ann. He truly enjoyed life, loved his family and had the warmest most generous heart. When Gary’s health took a turn he moved to the Strathcona neighbourhood. Here he met his second family with the Good Shepherd Assisted Living Program. He truly loved and appreciated each and every one of the Personal Support Workers, staff and volunteers who helped him with his daily living needs. He enjoyed chatting and laughing with the men’s group and looked forward to special events hosted by the Assisted Living Program. During Gary’s final weeks, he was loved and cared for by many with dignity and grace. Warm thanks to our Strathcona neighbours who prepared and delivered healthy delicious meals and to the McMaster Family Practice Team. Gary spent his final days at Emmanuel House Hospice where he took the Lords hand in comfort. Words cannot express the gratitude the family has for the Good Shepherd. We started together and we ended together. Keeping within the directives in place due to Covid-19, a private visitation and Service for Gary will be held. Interment White Chapel Memorial Gardens. It’s with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Betty Mostacci (nee Monaco). Surrounded by her family in her home, she passed after a courageous fight with cancer. Beloved daughter of the late Vittorio and Vera Monaco. Cherished mother of Melissa, Alexander (Nathalie), and Veronica (Chris). Forever in the heart of Claudio. Beloved sister to Cecile Monaco (Tony) and Tina Mair. She will be deeply missed by the many other people that she touched the hearts of over the years including her numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and extended family members.
She loved her family above all else, she would always make sure that everyone left her house having felt welcome and full. Sunday’s growing up were always special with her in the kitchen all morning making a true feast. Even when she was battling cancer, she made sure everyone around her was well fed. She loved to spend her summers outdoors tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. When she no longer could, she would sit outside and guide us on the garden’s needs.
Betty’s spirit touched her many friends and colleagues. She took great pride in her work at Villa Italia, where she worked for over a decade. She was always excited to interact with all the staff and residents bringing them many smiles and laughs. She had a boisterous, infectious laugh that could illuminate the whole room that we used to joke could be heard throughout the neighbourhood, and will be one of the things we miss most.
A special thanks to the caring and compassionate caregivers from St. Elizabeth Health and Nurse Next Door.
A Private Family Service will be held followed by cremation. The Private Service will be available via livestream at Livestream for Betty’s Funeral, Thursday, December 3, 2020 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Juravinski Cancer Centre would be appreciated by the family

Burghardt, Dr. Andrew Frank (Emeritus Professor, McMaster University), at St. Joseph’s Villa, Dundas, Ontario, on Friday, November 27, 2020, at the age of 96. Loving husband for 64 years of Mary (née Farrell). Loving father of Maryanne (Dr. Romeo Bruni) of Toronto, Paul (Paula) of Oakville, Margaret (Dr.) (Dr. Mark Rosati) of Orillia, Madeline (Dr.) (Richard Marshall) of Toronto, and Barbara (David Wilson) of Cambridge. Dear Poppa of Meghan (Mark Trifunovic), Alison (Adam Fore), and Sarah Bruni, Catherine and John Burghardt, Owen and Esmee Rosati, Seph, Tonnán and Raphael Marshall, Erin, Kate, and Emma Wilson.
Predeceased by his sister, Madeline and his brother Robert. Andrew was born in New York City on April 5, 1924, the son of Hungarian immigrants Anthony Burghardt and Mary Weiss. He served in the US Army in the Philippines in World War II, taking part in the invasion of Luzon. He received his B.A. cum laude from Harvard University, and his Masters and Ph.D. in geography from the University of Wisconsin (Madison). He taught at Stanford University prior to his appointment at McMaster in 1961. He was a visiting professor at the universities of Minnesota, Victoria, Guelph, and the Free University of Berlin. He specialized in political and historical geography, was a councilor of the Canadian Association of Geographers, and was awarded an Austrian medal of honour for his writings on Burgenland. Locally, he served with the County Planning Board, the Urban Renewal Committee, Commissions on Regional Government, and CAPIC. He was a member of the Bach-Elgar choir, Hamilton Right-to-Life, the Serra Club, and the St. Augustine’s parish council. After retiring in 1989, he wrote the history of his McMaster geography department, and served as archivist and historian, as well as lector and teacher in the RCIA program at St. Augustine’s in Dundas. He also wrote the histories of St. Augustine’s and the McMaster Newman Alumni Association.
Visitation will be held at Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas, on Wednesday evening from 6:30 – 8 p.m. and Thursday from 2 – 5 p.m. as per the BAO directives, everyone must sign up for the visitation at https://signup.com/go/vPhmWro. Numbers are limited. Due to Covid-19 restrictions of assembly, the funeral will be by invitation only. Interment will be in St. Augustine’s Catholic Cemetery, Dundas. Kowalchuk, Mary – Passed away peacefully at Amica in Dundas on Wednesday, November 25, 2020. She will be dearly missed by her brothers Tom (Barbara) and Bill (Donna) and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Mary was predeceased by her brothers Nicholas (Shirley), John (Anne), Sy (Norma), Walter (Sarah), Alex (Thelma) and Peter (Mary Jane). As per Mary’s wishes, a private graveside service was held at Mt. Zion Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy to the Hamilton General Hospital – Heart Unit, would be appreciated by the family.

We celebrate the life of Derek Charles Boulter and announce his peaceful passing at Credit Valley Hospital on Thursday, November 5, 2020, in his 85th year. Beloved husband of the late Earlon Burns (2018) and dear stepfather to Richard Bourgeois (Victoria) and Sandy Sandiford (Arthur). Loving grandfather to Alexander, Zoe, Matthew and Cora. Those who knew Derek, know he counted his marriage to Earlon as one of his greatest accomplishments. Although they met later in life, they enjoyed over 20 wonderful years together. She gave him the family that he had always wanted and together they enjoyed many cruises and saw much of the world together. Derek loved his adopted home-town of Dundas, ON. He was an active member of the community, whether it be taking part in local politics, coaching soccer, or leading the local boy scouts troop. Derek was the Southampton Saints (self-proclaimed) biggest fan. He would celebrate every win by wearing his cap and telling everyone about all the team stats. (The Saints finally came through for Derek with a big win on the date of his passing and topped the Premiership table for the first time in history – this would have made Derek’s day!). A special thank you to all the staff at Extendicare Mississauga for all their care and support. Derek’s wishes for a cremation, have taken place, and a small memorial gathering will take place at St. James’ Anglican Church, Dundas.

Peacefully, with family by his side, Daniel Robert Lee passed away on Nov 3, 2020, at the age of 60, at Emmanuel House Hospice, Hamilton, ON following a brief illness. Dan was predeceased by his beloved wife and best friend, Teresa Wasiak Lee, only three weeks earlier.
Dan spent the first two decades of his life in Dundas, ON., attending Parkside High School before heading off to university. He was one of those rare individuals who was as comfortable writing essays as he was writing computer code, obtaining university degrees in both history (Queen’s University) and computer science (McMaster University).
Upon graduation, Dan began his career in the telecommunications field at MDR, eventually working with Lucent and then Telus. As he changed employers he also moved from Hamilton to Calgary where he met Teresa. It was love at first sight. They were married in 2003. Their relationship was built on a deep passion for music, as Teresa was a professional French horn player and Dan was a music fanatic. They ultimately returned to Ontario, living first in Waterdown and finally St Catharines. Dan was a hard-working and well-respected employee who stayed in telecommunications for nearly 35 years.
One of Dan’s foremost and lifelong passions was creating and operating a high fidelity audio system. He had a special appreciation for progressive rock and fine jazz performances, and he very much enjoyed listening to a diverse range of music with a sound quality rivalling that of a professional recording studio. His music collection and musical acumen was extensive and formidable.
Dan forged lifelong friendships with many people and was admired for his excellence in everything that he set his mind to, meticulous in every detail. He became an expert downhill skier in his youth and an avid mountain biker as a young adult. As an outdoor enthusiast, he went on numerous backcountry camping trips with his close friends, from canoeing in Algonquin Park to more recently backpacking on the West Coast Trail, the Long Range Traverse and in Pukaskwa National Park. Dan enjoyed the challenge of an adventure, comradery with his friends, and wowing them with some new gear that he had found! He leaves behind many happy memories.
Dan was a thoughtful, kind, talented, intelligent, and loyal individual. This loyalty extended to his choice of clothing and gear – his love for all things Patagonia is legendary among those who knew him well. He knew lots of stuff about lots of things, and would happily share his knowledge with friends and family at length. He was a loving family man. As the eldest of four he was looked upon by his siblings as the rock of the Lee family – the one they turned to for help, guidance and advice.
Dan is the son of Ruth Lee and the late David Lee. He is survived by his sisters and brother, Sarah (Cameron Belsher), Stephen (Nancy Reinhart), and Deborah (Kevin Eldridge). He is also survived by his step-daughter Clare (David) Adamcik, his brother-in-law Ed (Katherine) Wasiak, and sisters-in-law Christine Kessel, Colette (Wayne) Bischoff, and Marcia (Michael) Scott. He was a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews and an adored friend.
The family would like to thank the staff at Emmanuel House Hospice and Niagara Health – St. Catharines Site for their compassionate care of both Teresa and Dan, as well as thank the many outstanding home caregivers. The family is also grateful for the immense kindness and support of extended family, friends and neighbours. Cremation has taken place, with a Celebration of Life planned for a future date. If desired, donations in Dan’s memory may be made to The Canadian Cancer Society or Emmanuel House Hospice.

With our hearts breaking, we announce the tragic passing of our beloved son Warren on Thursday, October 29, 2020. Left to mourn his passing are his loving parents Rollo & Marilyn (nee Shewfelt) of Dundas and his sister Lori whom he loved unconditionally. He was her rock. Warren was predeceased by his partner Penny in 2016. He was a loving Papa to Melissa and her family, T.J. and Shannon and their family and Breanna and James and their son. Warren was born and raised in Copetown and he graduated from Dundas District High School and went to McMaster University and obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree. Warren worked for many years in the Peterborough area and at the time of his passing, was living in the town of Frankford. He was a lover of nature and was always happy to be walking his two little puppies on the many trails in the area. Warren was a great family man and looked forward to every big family get together. He was a special nephew to his Uncle Delbert Shewfelt (Marilyn) and his Uncle William “Bill” Shewfelt (Yvonne). Warren will also be missed by his Snyder aunts Ina McCurdy (Colin) and Rosemary Stinger of Florida. Warren was loved by his many cousins and was especially close to Kevin Shewfelt who will recall some of their adventures together. He had many friends, both at work and in his daily life. Too many to mention but they will miss him. Glen, his boss and good friend, will miss their chats and good times. Warren, you were loved from the day you were born and will be loved forever. Warren was the grandson of the late Delbert and Mary Ann Shewfelt and George and Mildred Snyder. A Funeral Service will take place Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main St. Dundas, on Wednesday, November 4 at 1:00p.m.. DUE TO COVID-19, THE SERVICE WILL BE BY INVITATION ONLY.
