NICOL, Pamela Maureen – Pamela Nicol passed away peacefully with family at her side on Monday, October 14th, 2013 at the Good Shepherd Emmanuel House, at the age of 78 years. Beloved wife of the late James Nicol (2010). Dearest mother of Andrew and his wife Kathleen of Hamilton, daughter Jennifer and David Hayes of Dundas, and daughter Catherine and her husband Allen Prowse of Kingston. A wonderful, loving Grandmother to Megan and Thomas Nicol, as well as Emily, Thomas, Myles, Benjamin and Pamela Prowse. Pam is survived by her sister-in-law Rita Donovan and her husband Brian of Ohio and their children Paul, Sean and Clare. She will also be missed by her brother Brian and his wife Barbara of England and their children Stephen and Gillian. Pam was fortunate to have the kind and caring friendship of Jim’s good friend Peter Dawson as well as her long-time friend Pat McNiece. Pam was born in Enstone village, England, and went on to teacher’s college in London, England.  She made many lasting friendships with her colleagues there. After immigrating to Canada with Jim in 1962, Pam worked for the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board for 30 years, including many years at St. Augustine’s School in Dundas.  Pam had a sharp wit and mind; she excelled at the cryptic crossword puzzles and was always the winner at a game of Scrabble. Pam passed on her love of learning to her children and grandchildren, who loved spending time with “Gramela”.  A special thank you to the many doctors, nurses, PSWs, and volunteers at the Juravinski Cancer Centre, CCAC, and the Good Shepherd Emmanuel House Hospice for their support and compassion.  Friends will be received by the family at Cattel, Eaton & Chambers Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas where a celebration of her life will take place on Thursday, October 17th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. A prayer service will take place Thursday evening at 7:45 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral mass will take place at ST. AUGUSTINE’S PARISH CHURCH at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 18th. Internment will follow at St. Augustine’s Cemetery. A reception will be held at Pam’s condo, 703-1000 Creekside Drive in Dundas.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Pam to the Hamilton Public Library – Dundas Branch or the Dundas Rotary Club.

Haynes, Anthony George Frederick-It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Anthony George Frederick Haynes on Friday, October 4th, 2013 in his 64th year.  He will be greatly missed by his spouse Dee Wilson, daughters Kristina & Klaudia Haynes, Dee’s daughters Candice (and son, Niza) & Courtnay Wilson.
Loving family residing in England include sisters Pauline (David) Clifton, Melanie (Robin) Haynes, nephew Richard and niece Lydia Clifton.  We would like to thank the following for their caring, support and prayers:  Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice, Dr. Moriarity, Susana Baun & family and Yasmeen Minocher.  There will be a private “Celebration of Life”  to be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice would be greatly appreciated by the family.

Farnan, John Daniel – It is with profound sorrow that we announce the death of John Daniel Farnan on October 7, 2013, at the age of 78, at the Hamilton General Hospital after a brief illness. He will be missed dearly by wife Dina (nee Zourou), mother Marion (predeceased by father John)  daughters Margaret Walton (Bruce Peart) and Beth Taylor (John), grandchildren Cameron Taylor, Jason Walton (Tracey Martin), and Jamie Taylor (Brandon Maddick), great granddaughter Lily Walton, sister Mary Koroscil (Bruce Comba), niece Sasha Ellwood (Patrick), grand nephew Bruce, nephew Serge Koroscil, brother-in-law Stratos Zouros (Eileen), niece Nikki Partridge, his aunt Carolyn Stephens and cousins.  John has served as president of the Rotary Club of Dundas, Canadian and Ontario Hang Gliding Associations, Chair of the Board of the Dundas Valley School of Art and President of the NAWCC Toronto Chapter 33.  He is the recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship, NAWCC Fellowship, 25 year Ontario Volunteer award and Spectator Community Service Award in support of Art.  A private family ceremony has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Dundas Valley School of Art, 21 Ogilvie St, Dundas, ON.  Our heartfelt thanks to Dr. You and his team for their excellent and compassionate care and the staff at the Hamilton General Hospital. Williamson, Bill

September 20, 1918 – October 3, 2013

Williamson, William “Bill” – at the Juravinski Hospital on Thursday, October 3, 2013, in his 96th year. Beloved husband to the late Joan for 55 years.  Dearly loved father of Christine Jacklin, of England, and Stella Glover (Alan) of Mt. Hope. Loving grandfather of Rachel, the late Jon, Harriet, Mike, Kevin and Tim (Rosanna) and great grandfather of Melissa and Alana. Bill was predeceased by his 7 brothers and sisters. Bill was a member of the RCL Br#36, Dundas, and was a veteran of WWII, taking part in the D-Day landing at Normandy, he served in India, Europe and later Korea, as part of the 1st Battalion, Royal Norfolk Infantry.  A Service to Celebrate Bill’s Life will take place on Wednesday, October 9th, 2013 at CHRIST CHURCH FLAMBOROUGH, 92 Hwy #8, Greensville, at 11 o’clock. Cremation to follow.  In lieu of flowers donations to the RCL Br#36 Poppy Fund or the Primates World Relief and development Fund c/o Christ Church would be appreciated by the family.

Freeman, Lena (nee Stolar) – Passed away peacefully with her family nearby on Monday, September 23, 2013.  Predeceased by her husband William E. “Ted” in 1987. Dearly loved and missed by her daughter June Byrne (predeceased Michael – 2007) and her daughter Deirdre and her son Ted and his children Justin and Becky and Lena’s great-grandson Roman.  Predeceased by her parents Phillip and Katharine Stolar and sisters Anne and Mary.  Friends will be received by the family on Friday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Lena’s service at 11:00 a.m. at the Cattel, Eaton & Chambers Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas.  Interment Grove Cemetery.  If you so wish, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.

Flewelling, Edna Fern (Hillgartner) – It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Edna at home in her 90th year on September 6, 2013.  Beloved wife of the late Roy Reid Flewelling (2005).  Edna will be fondly remembered by her brother Ralph (the late Mary), many extended family members and her cherished cat, Sweetie.  Predeceased by her parents Alvin & Edith Hillgartner of Binbrook, brothers Harry (Betty), Roy and Lloyd and sisters Mabel Robinson (Norm) and Gladys Page (Bill).  Edna was a long time employee of Westinghouse.  Visitation will take place at Cattel, Eaton & Chambers Funeral Home, 53 Main St. Dundas, Wednesday September 11, 2013 at 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., Thursday September 12, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Service at 11:00 p.m.  A reception will follow.  Cremation has taken place.  Inurnment Troy Cemetery.  Donations in Edna’s memory may be made to the Binbrook United Church or charity of your choice.

Crickmore, Russell Ernest – Peacefully at Idlewyld Manor on Monday, September 9, 2013, in his 86th year. Beloved husband of the late Lois (nee Connell) (1973) and the late Lena Cox (nee Davis) (2005). Dear father of Elaine (the late Ross), Maurice (Lynne), Brian (Roisin), Rhonda (Bob) and Lena’s family Cheryl (the late Tom), the late Melvin (Iris) and Joan (Murray). Russell will be sadly missed by many grandchildren and great grandchildren and also sadly missed by his siblings; the late Marion, the late Donald, Harvey, Harold and Elwood, brother-in-law Bruce Connell, many brothers and sisters in-law and many nieces and nephews. He was a member of the Rockton Agricultural Society, West Flamborough Presbyterian Church and was a lifelong resident of the Flamborough area, a Livestock dealer and trucker. Friends will be received by the family on Wednesday afternoon and evening from 2-4 & 7-9 at the Cattel, Eaton & Chambers Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas. Funeral Thursday morning at 11 o’clock at West Flamborough Presbyterian Church, (Christie’s Corners). Interment Mt. Zion Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy to the West Flamborough Presbyterian Church or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family. Grant, Madge Audrey (nee Barker)

July 28, 1925 – August 20, 2013

After a very fulfilling life, Madge died peacefully on Tuesday August 20, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Villa, Dundas, ON.  She was pre-deceased by her husband of over 61 years, Bruce, with whom they were blessed with four devoted children, Elaine, Ann, Jim and Cathy, grandchildren Graham, Jeremy, Ramsey, Jenny, Sarah, Tom, Rachael, Luke, Greg, and Kayla, and great – grandchildren Arwen, Cedar, Ember, Juliet, Esme, Finn, Ella, and Asher. Despite Madge’s painful physical challenges, she always maintained her great sense of humour, and love of life. Music and creativity kept the sparkle in her eye. Her family, of whom she was most proud, will miss this lovely lady. May she rest peacefully. A Memorial Service will take place at St. Mark’s United Church, 1 Lynndale Drive, Dundas, ON on Sunday, September 29th at 2 p.m. Thank you to the Balsam Trail staff at St. Joseph’s Villa, as well as to the staff of 6 West, Hamilton General Hospital, for all your loving care.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Mark’s United Church, Dundas ON,  Granton United Church, Granton,ON, or to the Canadian Wildlife Federation.

FREEMAN, Alfred James – Peacefully, at the Meadows in Ancaster on Sunday, September 1, 2013, Alfred James Freeman (Fred), in his 97th year, passed away with family by his side.  Fred served proudly in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II and continued with his passion for flying throughout his life.  He worked with dedication for the Hamilton Post Office for 38 years and retired as  Superintendent Operations.  He is now reunited with his loving wife of 65 years, Sarah, who passed away February 2, 2007.  Fred is survived by his brother, Russ Freeman of Halifax and his family, four children, Russell Freeman and wife Lynn of Kingston, Ross Freeman and wife Kelli of Delray Beach, Florida, Judy Freeman-Werstiuk and husband Nick Werstiuk of Ancaster, and Jan Freeman of Hamilton.  He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Christopher Freeman (Colleen), Paul Freeman (Miranda), Angela Freeman, Brittany, Kendall and Connor Werstiuk and Brendan and Kiara MacRury, along with two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Charlie Freeman.  We would like to thank the committed staff at the Meadows for their outstanding care of our father during his many years as a resident.  A private family service will be held at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Hamilton.

After a heroic battle with cancer, Guy died peacefully at home on Tuesday, August 27, 2013.  Beloved husband of Eveline and proud father of Greg and Johnny. Much loved brother of Bert (Helen), Helena, and Owen (Lisa), and loving stepson of Maggie. Adored by nephews and nieces in England and Canada. Predeceased by parents Ernest and Marjorie and brother Ernie. Guy was a true gentleman with a great sense of humour. Friends will be received on Tuesday from 1 p.m. at the Cattel, Eaton & Chambers Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas, where a Celebration of Guy’s Life will be held at 2 p.m. Cremation has taken place.
