July 28, 1935 – October 14, 2013
NICOL, Pamela Maureen – Pamela Nicol passed away peacefully with family at her side on Monday, October 14th, 2013 at the Good Shepherd Emmanuel House, at the age of 78 years. Beloved wife of the late James Nicol (2010). Dearest mother of Andrew and his wife Kathleen of Hamilton, daughter Jennifer and David Hayes of Dundas, and daughter Catherine and her husband Allen Prowse of Kingston. A wonderful, loving Grandmother to Megan and Thomas Nicol, as well as Emily, Thomas, Myles, Benjamin and Pamela Prowse. Pam is survived by her sister-in-law Rita Donovan and her husband Brian of Ohio and their children Paul, Sean and Clare. She will also be missed by her brother Brian and his wife Barbara of England and their children Stephen and Gillian. Pam was fortunate to have the kind and caring friendship of Jim’s good friend Peter Dawson as well as her long-time friend Pat McNiece. Pam was born in Enstone village, England, and went on to teacher’s college in London, England. She made many lasting friendships with her colleagues there. After immigrating to Canada with Jim in 1962, Pam worked for the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board for 30 years, including many years at St. Augustine’s School in Dundas. Pam had a sharp wit and mind; she excelled at the cryptic crossword puzzles and was always the winner at a game of Scrabble. Pam passed on her love of learning to her children and grandchildren, who loved spending time with “Gramela”. A special thank you to the many doctors, nurses, PSWs, and volunteers at the Juravinski Cancer Centre, CCAC, and the Good Shepherd Emmanuel House Hospice for their support and compassion. Friends will be received by the family at Cattel, Eaton & Chambers Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas where a celebration of her life will take place on Thursday, October 17th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. A prayer service will take place Thursday evening at 7:45 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral mass will take place at ST. AUGUSTINE’S PARISH CHURCH at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 18th. Internment will follow at St. Augustine’s Cemetery. A reception will be held at Pam’s condo, 703-1000 Creekside Drive in Dundas. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Pam to the Hamilton Public Library – Dundas Branch or the Dundas Rotary Club.

My heart aches for you; your Mom filled your house with such warmth and love; I have so many fond memories of her and my time spent at 6 Ernest, I treasure those. I can still hear your Mom’s voice calling us for pancakes, makes me smile.
Thinking of you and your family.
Stephanie and family
We are so deeply sorry to hear of Pam’s passing from this life. The only consolation is that Jim and Pam are both together in Heaven after three years apart! The sad news is that the rest of us left back here are deprived of their company and friendship!
To Andrew, Jennifer & Catherine,
We express our sincerest condolences to you all on the loss of your mother. Through our friendship with your father Jim, we got to know your mother and found her to be such a lovely person and a gracious and classy lady. She is missed already!
Our prayers and thoughts are with you all as well as with the souls of Jim and Pam at this time.
Please accept our deepest condolences on the death of your mother Pam. We knew your parents through meeting them when visiting them at Derek and Jutta’s house and they were always a pleasure to talk to, also Peter worked at Westinghouse and so knew your father at work. We are very sorry for your loss of your mother. Margaret and Peter Baulch.
Dear Catherine, Jennifer, Andrew and family,
At the time of the funeral mass for your dear mother we were driving through the Trigrad gorge on our slow journey to return to Sofia, successfully passing through the devil’s throat. My thoughts were with you all at this time of great celebration. I wish I could have been with you in person. Thank you for your life well-lived Pam. Canada will be a lesser place to return to.
Peter
