McNamara, Neil – Passed away peacefully, after a period of declining health, at St. Joseph’s Villa, Dundas ON, on February 25, 2015. He was the loving husband of Bernadette McNamara (Tochor) for 62 years (deceased February 14, 2015), and dear father of Paul (Rosemary), Kerry (Janis), Daniel (Laura). Loved grandpa of Colleen, Kathryn, Lorena, Jaren and Joel, and great grandfather to Ellie. Neil (Cornelius), is predeceased by his parents Ellen and John McNamara. He is survived by his brother Reverend Victor McNamara, and predeceased by brothers Tom (Mabel), Frank (Helen) Mike, Dennis (Helen) Gerald (Lois) Leonard (Sally), and sister Aileen (Murray Morrison). Neil (Cornelius) McNamara was born in West Luther Township, near Arthur, ON, on May 4, 1929. His family were farmers, and later lived in Arthur. After the death of his father, Neil and his mother moved to Hamilton to be nearer to other family. Neil attended Cathedral Catholic High School and eventually took a job with A&P Food Stores. It was while working with A&P in Port Colborne ON, that he met Bernadette Tochor, who also worked at the store. They were married in 1952 in Niagara Falls. After managing the A&P store in Tillsonburg ON, they returned to the Hamilton area. Neil managed the stores on York St., Upper Paradise Road, and for many years in Dundas. Neil was a devoted husband, and a loving father. He enjoyed taking care of their home in Ancaster, and was a master of carpentry, repairing appliances, etc. He was active in many aspects of St. Ann’s Parish including the Men’s Club and was the treasurer in the Boy Scouts group. Neil served, with great pride, on the Board of Directors for St. Joseph’s Villa during the 1990’s, Neil and Bernadette were avid campers and toured Canada and the United States with their trailer. They also enjoyed exploring Europe, the Caribbean islands and Mexico. Neil and Bernadette were members of several card clubs in their retirement years and they also spent many years square dancing. Neil was a president of St. Augustine’s Catholic Church Senior’s Group. Special thanks go to the staff of St. Joseph’s Villa for their continuing care of Neil. The Visitation will be held at Cattel, Eaton & Chambers Funeral Home at 53 Main Street, Dundas ON, from 3-5 and 7-9 pm on Friday February 27, 2015. The Funeral Mass will take place at ST. AUGUSTINE’S CHURCH in Dundas on Saturday February 28, 2015 at 10:00 am. Burial will take place at St. Augustine’s Cemetery, 65 East Street South (off South Street) in Dundas. Reception to follow at Dundas Museum , 139 Park St. West, Dundas. In lieu of flowers, sympathy may be expressed through donations to St. Joseph’s Villa.

Hodkin, Eva Elizabeth (nee Herniska) – Peacefully surrounded by her loving family, Eva passed away suddenly at St. Joseph’s Hospital On Monday, February 23, 2015. Predeceased by her husband Lloyd (2004). Eva will be dearly remembered and loved by her sons Allan and Joseph (Jocelyn) and her daughter Marlane Robertson; grandchildren Jenna, Jessica, Jeremy, Jordon, Michelle, Sean and great-grandchildren Kayla, Jackson, Emma and Hope. Eva was a member of the 447 Wing of the RCAF in Mount Hope. Eva loved making crafts and playing cards and both her and her husband were avid travelers. A special thank you is extended to the emergency staff, Dr. Gmora, the ER nurses and ICU staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital for being so kind and caring and allowing us to say good-bye as we thought mom would be coming home once again. Thank you to the staff on Cedar Grove at St. Joseph’s Villa for the care and compassion for mom over the years. In keeping with Eva’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a Service and interment will take place at a later date. If you so wish, donations to the 447 Wing of the RCAF, Mt. Hope would be appreciated by the family.

Hurren, Jacqueline (nee McCarty, Farrow) – It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dearly loved Jackie on Saturday, February 21, 2015 in her 81st year after a courageous battle with multiple illnesses. Left to mourn are her husband Gordon, sons Terry Farrow (Gladys), Barry Hurren (Diana), daughters Kimberley Farrow (Roland Lejambe), Vicki Farrow (Randy Griffiths). Will be sadly missed by grand children Tamara, Jonathan, Adam, Trevor, Sydney, Ashley, Rachel and 7 great grand children. Sadly missed by the families of Audrey Nicol and Lenore Castle. Predeceased by Keith A. Farrow (husband) and daughters Wendy, Tracey and grandson Keith. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 from 2-4 & 7-9 at Cattel, Eaton & Chambers Funeral Home, 53 Main St., Dundas. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at 11 a.m. at St. James Anglican Church, 137 Melville St., Dundas. Private interment to occur at a later date. Hill, James Charles “Jim” – Unexpectedly on Saturday, February 21, 2015, at the Hamilton General Hospital, one week before his 63rd birthday. Beloved husband of Susan (nee Hunter), and loving father to Reverend Wesley (Martina) of Bancroft and Dale of Hamilton. Proud grandpa of Johanna, Stephen and Josiah. Beloved son of Margaret and the late James Hill. Jim will be sadly missed by his mother-in-law Elizabeth Hunter and her family, his brothers; Kerby (Joan) and Bryon, his sisters; Marny Hay (Terry) and Wendy Roberts (Mike), and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Jim was an Elder at Knox Presbyterian Church, Waterdown. Friends will be received by the family on Tuesday afternoon and evening from 2-4 & 7-9 at the Cattel, Eaton & Chambers Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas. Funeral Wednesday afternoon at 1 o’clock at KNOX PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 23 Melville Street, Dundas. Cremation to follow. Flowers gratefully declined. Gough, Ross Carswell – It is with sadness that we announce that Ross Gough passed away at home on February 11, 2015. Born on July 31, 1944. Predeceased by his parents James and Isabel Gough (Stenhouse). Brother to Heather (Al) and Janelle (James). Uncle to Jillian, Jeralee and Jolene. Great Uncle to Lucas and Hannah. Ross was a longtime supporter of the Tiger Cats and Maple Leafs. Many thanks to his long time landlord Jack. There will be no visitation or funeral as per his request. Cremation has taken place. Donations to the Parkinson’s Society would be appreciated.

LeWarne, Alice Elizabeth – died peacefully on February 18, 2015, at Idlewyld Manor, Hamilton, Ontario at the age of 97 years. She was born on September 26, 1917, the second daughter of George and Winifred LeWarne, in Mount Forest, Ontario. She is predeceased by her sister, Jane (1992). She graduated from Stratford Teachers’ College and from Queen’s University, Kingston, and taught for 34 years, primarily for the Hamilton-Wentworth Board of Education, before retiring. Betty was an avid bird watcher, a weaver, an amateur photographer, painter, an extensive world traveller and a maker of Cloisonne jewellery. She was honoured for her work by the Artisan’s Guild and by the Field Naturalists of Hamilton area. She will be sadly missed by several cousins in Jarvis, & Peterborough, Ontario, Vancouver, Lethbridge, Calgary, ( Alberta), and in Palo Alto, California, as well as many friends. There will be a Memorial Service to honour her life on Friday, April 10, 2015 at Binkley United Church, 1570 Main St. West, Hamilton, followed by interment in Little Lake Cemetery in Peterborough, Ontario on April 11, at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Idlewyld Manor, 449 Sanatorium Road, Hamilton, ON L9C 2A7, Binkley United Church, 1570 Main Street West, Hamilton, ON L8S 1E8 or Frontier College, 35 Jackes Avenue, Toronto, ON M4T 1E2.

Zimmerman, Mary – Peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on Monday, February 16, 2015 at the Juravinski Hospital in her 68th year. Mary was predeceased by her loving husband Ike. Cherished mother of Lynne (Mike), Sherri ( Rod), Jim (Diane) and Kim (Craig). Sadly missed by her sister Lynda (Brian) and predeceased by her brother Ken (Carol). Much loved grandmother to Thomas, Allyssa, Renee, Danielle, Chaz, Tanner, Hadleigh, Mackenzie, Olivia, James and Emma. Also sadly missed by her nephew Brad, niece Sara (Jordan), great-nephews Jonathan and Michael, niece Amy (Ken) and great-nephews Mason, Carter, Trenton and Lincoln. Friends will be received by the family on Thursday evening from 7-9 p.m. at the Cattel, Eaton & Chambers Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas, where the Celebration of Mary’s Life will take place on Friday at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at White Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Juravinski Cancer Centre or the Cancer Assistance Program would be appreciated by the family.

Scott, Charles (Chuck) Irven – After years of wonderful experiences among family and friends, it is with sadness, yet gratitude for his full and interesting life we announce the passing of Dad. Predeceased by our Mother, his cherished wife, Kathleen B.A. (Carey) 2001. Loving father of Debbie Withers (Ken) of Minesing and Wendy Kam (David) of Hamilton. Predeceased by his dear younger brothers, Hugh (2002) and Gordon (1980). Loving remembered, respected and admired by grandchildren Jacklyn, Scott, Ali, Tyler and Chadd. Also survived by sister-in-laws Marion Scott of Kitchener, Pat Scott of Burlington, Brother-in-law John (Margaret) Carey, Port Robinson. Many nieces and nephews will hold fond memories and have quiet chuckles of occasions spent with Uncle Chuck. He was former Traffic Manager of the Canada Coach Lines Limited and the Grayline Sightseeing of Niagara Falls and many years with the Hamilton Street Railway Management team, retiring in 1981 after 45 years of service. He was Past President and Life Member of the Ontario Motor Coach Association and member of the OMCA Hall of Fame. Former Director and Life Member of the Motor Coach Association and served on several National and International Motor Coach committees. Dad was a 4 year Army Veteran of WWII, serving in Canada, England and Holland. He always enjoyed a Single Malt scotch and good conversation with family and friends. Winters were spent in Port Charlotte and then up North for the happy times at the family cottage at Carey Point on Halls Lake. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor dad’s memory a donation to the Dundas Salvation Army or the Hamilton SPCA will help those in need.

Amsden, Elvera Beautrix (Farkas) – After a brave battle Mom passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2015, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, in her 80th year. Dear wife of the late Roy (2008). Mother of four daughters; Diane Collingwood (Glenn), Pamela Lengel (Dennis Chesterman), Alison LaForme (Greg -deceased) and Judy Amsden (Kevin Clarke). Grandma of Erin Lengel-Faulks (Matthew), Lindsey Lengel (Sandy), Derek Collingwood (deceased), and Megan and Rachel Nelson. Grandma Grandma to Maple and Amsden Faulks and Emmett and Oliver Nelson. A woman of many talents, Elvera passed along her passions for reading, sewing, gardening and cooking to her children and grandchildren and has now gone to listen to the gypsy violins. Cremation has taken place with a private family interment at a later date. Expressions of sympathy to Cystic Fibrosis Canada would be appreciated by the family.

McNamara, Bernadette – Passed away peacefully, after a period of declining health, at St. Joseph’s Villa, Dundas ON, on February 14, 2015. She was the loving wife of Neil McNamara for 62 years, and the dear mother of Paul (Rose), Kerry (Janis), and Daniel (Laura). Loving grandmother to Colleen, Kate, Lorena, Jaren and Joel, and great- grandmother to Ellie. Bernadette is predeceased by her parents Julia & Peter Tochor of Esterhazy, Saskatchewan, and by sisters Margaret, Clara, Patricia, and Evelyn (husband Frank Green deceased); and by brothers Walter and Ronald. She is survived by her sister Ethel (husband Charlie Cox deceased), and by brothers Richard (wife Ronalda, deceased) and Jerome (Pauline). Bernadette left Esterhazy, SK when she was 17 and traveled to Ontario in search of employment. She had many relatives in Welland and Niagara Falls, and stayed with her sister Ethel and her family. Bernadette quickly found work as a waitress, and as a cashier at an A&P supermarket. This is where she met Neil McNamara, who also worked at the A&P. They were married in 1952. Bernadette was a devoted wife, and a loving mother. She loved taking care of their home in Ancaster and was a master of cooking and baking. Her sons have great memories of coming home from school to warm cookies. She also loved tending her garden and caring for her dogs. Bernadette was active in St. Ann’s parish as treasurer of the Catholic Women’s League and as a member of the choir. She was also a volunteer at St. Joseph’s Villa and St. Joseph’s Hospital. Bernadette and Neil were avid campers and toured Canada and the United States with their trailer. They also enjoyed exploring Europe, the Caribbean islands and Mexico. Throughout her life Bernadette enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre. Bernadette and Neil were members of several card clubs in their retirement years and they also spent many years square dancing. Special thanks go to the staff of St. Joseph’s Villa for their continuing care of Bernadette.
