March 30, 1933 – March 6, 2020 – UPDATE
Peacefully, surrounded by those she loved, in her 87th year, on Friday, March 6, 2020 at Amica Retirement Home. Liz was the beloved wife of Richard Carson Newman (died 23 June1995) and the dear mother of Michael (Kendra), Toni, Mark (Patty) and Cathy (Tom). The Newman family, out of concern for family and friends due to the COVID-19 virus, have decided to postpone our mother’s Celebration of Life that was scheduled for March 28th at St. Paul’s United Church in Dundas. There will indeed be a Celebration of Life in the weeks to come and we will inform you of the new date and time.

Cherished grandmother of Michaela (Bradley), Quinn (Kim), Kyle (Ashley), Emma, Christina (Mike), Stephenie (Gabe), Tori (Tenzin), Cameron (Renata), Josh (Candace), Jordan (Myla). In her last year, Liz also shared love and companionship with Ron Arner. Liz worked tirelessly for the causes near and dear to her heart. She believed in serving her community as evidenced by her work with the Hamilton Health Sciences Corporation (HHSC; Director of Volunteers), the HHSC Foundation, the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON), the Zonta Club of Hamilton, the Probus Club of Dundas, the Dundas Figure Skating Club and many federal, provincial and local elections. Over the years, she found both solace and a place to serve at St. Mark’s United Church in Dundas, Marshall United Church in Ancaster and St. Paul’s United Church in Dundas. Recipient of the Lady Ishbel Aberdeen Award from the VON, a Cornerstone award from HHSC, the Paul Harris award from Rotary and a nominee for Woman of the Year in Hamilton. The family welcomes all who knew Liz to a Celebration of Life on March 28, 2020 at ST. PAUL’S UNITED CHURCH in Dundas, ON, 29 Park Street West (corner of Cross and Park St.), at 1:00 followed by a reception at the Church until 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests that expressions of sympathy be made to the Juravinski ICU via the Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation, to the Victorian Order of Nurses or to the SPCA.

Passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital on Monday, March 9, 2020 in his 88th year. Beloved husband of the late Joan Ann (2006). Loving father to Blair (Bev) and Jason (Shelley). Caring grandfather to Taylor and Jamie. Bob is survived by his brother Jim and missed by many nieces and nephews. He worked as an Engineer Physicist at the Ontario Cancer Foundation for over 30 years. He also volunteered with St. Mark’s United Church and Meals on Wheels. Friends and family are invited to Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main St, Dundas, on Thursday, March 12 from 2-4p.m. & 6-8p.m. for a visitation. A Memorial Service will take place at St. Mark’s United Church, 1 Lynndale Drive, Dundas, on Friday, March 13 at 11:00a.m. Donations, in memory, can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

LADNIAK, Eugene Alfred (Gene) On Sunday, March 1, 2020 at St. Joseph’s Villa in Dundas, Ontario in his 76th year. Gene was the husband of Lesley Russell and dear father of Kate Lambacher (Christopher) and Chris Ladniak (Tara) and was the loving grandfather of Amara, Ben, Connor, Avery and Jacob.Gene was predeceased by his parents Stanley and Anna Ladniak and his nephew Gregory Habros. He is survived by his brother Emil (Rose) and sisters Irene (Art) and Adele (Ron). He will also be missed by his nieces and nephews in Canada and Arizona. Gene was a skilled photographer who saw beauty in simple things and in unusual places. To honour Gene’s love of animals, memorial donations, if desired, may be made to Ugly Mutts Dog Rescue or the charity of your choice. Cremation has taken place arranged by Turner Family Funeral Home, Dundas with a private memorial planned for a later date.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Veronica Elizabeth Walker, cherished wife of the late John (2013) on March 5, 2020 in her 92nd year. Loving mother to Vera (Terry) Litzen, Cathy (Alex Guthro), Janice (Joe) Emberson, Marj and Bob (Lori Carmichael), as well as 15 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Vera was a gentle, grateful and loving soul who never said an unkind word. Always ready with a warm smile and hug. She was a wonderful role model to many, especially her family who she loved dearly. Friends will be received by the family on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas. Funeral prayers will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at ST. AUGUSTINE’S CHURCH, 58 Sydenham Street, Dundas. Interment to follow at St. Augustine’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Juravinski Cancer Centre, Heart & Stroke, or Good Shepherd would be appreciated.

Connell, Robert Bruce
1925 – 2020
Passed away on March 2, 2020 in his 95th year after a month of hospitalization at St. Joseph’s Healthcare, Hamilton. Beloved husband of Verna (nee Laidman) of 68 years. Father of Shana (Ian) Barnard, Melia Bennett, Fiona (Ray) Behr, Clive Connell, Darce (Susan) Connell. Grandfather to Robert (Kristin) Barnard, Christopher (Shawna) Barnard, Callista Bennett (Leavon), Travis Bennett, Katrina Behr, Jeffray Behr, Emma Connell, Adam Connell and Grant Connell. Predeceased by parents Franklin and Maud Connell and siblings Roy, William, Basil, and Lois Crickmore. Fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews and dear friends. Employed at the Dundas Star as a linotype operator for 25 years and then worked in the shipping department at Buntin-Gillies until his retirement in 1989. He was active in church life from a young age serving as the first President of Presbyterian Young People’s Society of the Hamilton London Synod, as Sunday School Superintendent, a member of the church choir, an Elder at West Flamboro Presbyterian Church and later an Elder at MacNab Street Presbyterian Church. Special thanks to the staff, which cared for him, on CTU Central and Complex Care at St. Joseph’s Healthcare. Visitation at Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main St. Dundas, on Friday, March 6 from 2 to 4pm and 6:30pm to 9:00pm. Peacefully at St. Joseph’s Villa on Thursday, February 27, 2020, in her 87th year. Predeceased by her husband Pieter and 2 sons, Mel and Alex. Loving mother of Roy (Sandy) and Wendy (late Norman). Beloved grandmother of Jeanette, Johanna, Melanie, Rebecca, Jennifer and Kevin and great grandmother to Benjamin, David and Emily. Sadly missed by her brother Henry, and predeceased by her brothers Pete, Tom, Dirk, Louis, Jan, Alex, Wijbren and Nanning and her sisters Anne Idzinga, Frances Terpstra and Trijntje Schiphof. Friends will be received by the family on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, from 2-4 & 6-8 at the Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas, where the Service for Agnes will be held Wednesday morning at 11 o’clock.
