Passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 27, 2025 at St. Joseph’s Villa in her 92nd year. Beloved mother of Matthew (Alexandra), Daniel and Anthony (predeceased). Loving Nonna to Anthony. Caring sister to Phil (predeceased), Tony (predeceased), Reno (predeceased), Lena (Ted – predeceased) and Joe. She will be sadly missed by the Ferretti family, her friends at DVSA, and all those who knew her. Friends and Family are invited to Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main St, Dundas, on Thursday, April 3, from 2-4 & 7-9 for a visitation. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, April 4, 2025 at St. Augustine’s Church, 58 Sydenham Rd, Dundas, at 11:00am. Interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society would be greatly appreciated by the family.
I’m so very sorry to hear of Maria’s death. I first met her at DVSA in the eighties when she roped me in to help with the Auction. She was the backbone of the school for many many years and it was always a pleasure to browse the art supplies she had in her shop. She would often have items which none of the other stores had. She was also a very good artist and a collector, her house was filled with beautiful artwork. I will always miss her and send my condolences to her family.
Maria has long been a favourite personality at the DVSA. I met her there in the late 70’s when we were both students, and resumed our acquaintance years later when I returned to teach at the school. She was such a warm, encouraging, supportive person. Maria was a great listener, a person who genuinely cared about others. She was generous, welcoming, encouraging and kind. Each day I would stop in at her wonderful little shop, always welcomed with a smile, enquiries after my kids, etc. My students loved that they could pop down to her shop where Maria would advise and offer a unique array of art supplies. In many ways, Maria was the heart of the school. I have missed seeing her there the last few years, and am deeply saddened to know that she has left this world. She will not be forgotten.
Maria will be missed by many.
