January 24, 1935 – June 3, 2024

Joseph Whittaker, aged 89, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Monday, June 3, 2024. Born in Halifax, England on January 24, 1935, Joe was the youngest of nine children.

Predeceased by his beloved wife Pauline, Joe is survived by his loving children, Steven (Janina) and Gail (Rob). He was a proud Papa to Amie (Trevor), Justin, and Shane (Jenna). He was also a playful Great Papa to Olivia and Chloe.

Joe enlisted in the army at the age of 18, where he served England with dedication during the Suez Canal Crisis. In 1958, he married the love of his life, Pauline. Together, they built a beautiful life and in 1972, moved their family to Dundas, Ontario, Canada where they forged many cherished friendships, turning friends into family.

A hardworking lorry (truck) driver in England, Joe continued his industrious ways after moving to Canada and worked at Westinghouse before transitioning to a role in maintenance with the Hamilton School Board. Famously known for his “WHOJOE” license plate, he was a handyman extraordinaire, always ready to fix anything for anyone in need. His bright blue eyes, playful smile and generous spirit made him a popular person to know.

Joe had a passion for golf, spending countless summer days on the greens with his friends. He was also a regular at the local legion and Air Force Club, where he enjoyed playing snooker. His devotion to his wife Pauline was evident in his role as her personal chauffeur, accompanying her on countless shopping trips with joy and love.

Joe will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched with his kindness and generosity.

Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of Joe’s life will be held on Tuesday, June 11th, from 6 PM to 8 PM at the Royal Canadian Legion, 280 King Street West, Dundas.
