Gary dedicated his life to service.  From the age of 15 until he retired 42 years later, LCol Jamieson served with the Department of National Defence Reserves.  His career started with 424 Squadron, RCAF Auxiliary before moving to the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders.  He went on to command 23 (Hamilton) Service Battalion and to hold many senior staff level positions at various headquarters.  He ultimately returned to where he started in high school, the RC Air Cadets commanding both the 700 and 845 Squadrons.  He was passionate about contributing to the lives and development of these young cadets.  Gary was an active supporter of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 36 in Dundas and served in its colour party until his passing.
