Breitmaier, Janet Sonja
February 14, 1960 – February 8, 2021
With profound sadness and joyful remembrance, the friends and family of Janet Breitmaier share our loss after a lengthy and fiercely battled contest with illness took her from us too soon. Our Valentine’s baby was born on a sunny Sunday in 1960 to two loving parents, Gordon Reinhold and Elfriede Breitmaier (both predeceased) of Kitchener, Ontario and one elder sibling Rein (Char) Breitmaier of Wingham, Ontario. Janet also leaves behind nieces Robyn (Luigi) Bruni and their children, and Taryn Breitmaier and her son.
Janet was in her lifetime a wife, a school teacher, an avid traveller, a life coach, a sister and a friend. Her last days were spent quietly at home, in the tender care of two childhood best friends Loraine Gubbels and Linda Benedikovic, along with a small army of visiting nurses and personal support workers who made Janet’s palliative care possible.
In keeping with Janet’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date, in keeping with Public Health guidelines. Memorial Donations may be registered with Hamilton’s Royal Botanical Gardens or with Crohn’s and Colitis Canada.
Janet was one of the kindest, sweetest women. Her gentle manner, voice and beaming smile lit up the room. Her love for her family was deep and true. My sympathies to you & your family Rein & Char. riposare in pace, my friend.
My condolences to the family.
I belonged to a women’s group with Janet way back for a few years. She was one of the most loveliest human being I have met. RIP JANET

I will miss you my beautiful friend. Your phone number is one that I have known by heart for more than 20 years. Knowing that you were there and that I could just pick up the phone and call you, was such comfort to me. I will cherish the many memories of you, of living through the Eastern Border blackout in 2003, the Wild Turkey Bourbon and cokes, the movie nights and dinners, the walks, the talks, the laughs… Thank you for having been my friend for so many years!
We remember Janet as a sweet person who always had a ready smile for everyone. It is with great sadness to hear of her passing. Our condolences to her family and friends. She will live on in our collective memories. Nicholas and Susan

I was so very sorry to hear of Janet’s death and my condolences to her family and friends, particularly those who accompanied her these last months. I knew Janet through my neighbours, her parents. Her attention and care for them was exemplary. Janet was a reflective and thoughtful soul, gentle in spirit, careful in word, full of gratitude.
