February 23 1936 – September 15 2020
It is with great sadness that our family announces the peaceful passing of our dear father, Bill Macintosh, in his 84th year. Predeceased by his loving wife, Ruth (Sept 15 2017), he is greatly missed by his children Timothy (Kathie), Deb (Joe), and Kate (John). He had an amazing influence on his seven grandsons, Ryan, Luke, Will, Jesse, Taylor, Erik and Jackson and always cherished their love. Hopefully, his adventurous spirit and humorous wit will be further passed down to his 4 great grandchildren. Although growing up on the south shore of Nova Scotia (sneaking lobsters at low tide), he began a successful career in the Royal Bank at the age of seventeen, which soon transferred him to Ontario. Here, he met the love of his life, Ruth, also a fellow Royal Bank employee, where they began a life together of 57 years,(ten different homes and cities) raising their three children during the challenges of frequent transfers, which he also taught us to embrace with enthusiasm and positivity. Bill touched many throughout his memorable life. He always found time to volunteer in the local Rotary Club, Cancer Society, Junior Achievement, Kinsmen, Dundas Creekside Condo Board, and Hamilton Probus, as well as making lasting new friendships and community connections along the way. Dad will lovingly be remembered for his unique style of storytelling, eye-rolling puns, summers at the cottages, barbeques, “enthusiastic” board games (he always had to be the Manager in Monopoly), and the sharing of many a Manhattan, Martini, and lessons on how to properly eat a lobster. You are greatly missed already. Our many thanks go out to all the caregivers at the Yorkville Retirement Residence, the Village of Wentworth Heights, his Visiting Homecare team, and St. Joseph’s HealthCare Centre, Guelph. Due to COVID restrictions and the safety of all our family and friends, a private celebration will take place at a later date.
I had the pleasure of working with Bill for a number of years at RBC. Always the gentleman. I am very sorry to hear of your families loss.
My condolences to the MacIntosh Family. Bill & Ruth were wonderful people. I met them through the Canadian Cancer Society where they we’re devoted and tireless volunteers. They always made me feel welcome and appreciated.
A great legacy.
I wish to extend my condolences to the family of Bill MacIntosh. I worked with Bill at several Hamilton area branches of The Royal Bank. He was a great manager to work with. I also worked with Ruth at the Dundas branch. A great couple to have worked with and to have known.
Our condolences to the MacIntosh family. Bill recruited me from life insurance by asking me when I was going to get an honest job at the Royal Bank instead of insurance. I had the pleasure to know him as a client and fellow banker. He was an inspiration to many of us. He always walked the talk. The world is richer place thanks to his efforts.
With deepest sympathy to the family. Bill was a wonderful and tireless volunteer. His love for Ruth and his family shone in everything he did and said. He was a true gentleman and a pleasure to be with.
Bill and Ruth were a wonderful influence on me in my early years at RBC. Always so very caring, kind and thoughtful with their doors always open. They are so greatly missed but so fondly remembered. My condolences to their family and so many friends.
ps…I still have Bill’s employment history with RBC which I have attached, and would appreciated if you would please forward it to the family
While it has been years since I worked with their daughter Deb at the Royal Bank Centre Mall Hamilton just wanted to acknowledge the loss of her wonderful parents. I know they were well respected in the community and as Royal Bankers. My condolences.
