KINGDON, Beatrice Mary (nee Hill) (March 10, 1938 – June 27, 2017)
It was mom’s daily ritual to read the obituaries. She would say, “checking to see if I’m there”. Well mom, sadly, today your name appears, but you are not here to see it. Mom, peacefully passed away at home, surrounded by her children. Predeceased by parents Harry and Lulu (Almas) Hill, loving husband, Richard (Dick) Kingdon. Lovingly remembered by children, Patti, Luann (Mark) Reynolds, Ken, Elise (Dan) Gallant; grandchildren, Christine, Rick (Tennika), and Sean (Dana) Brindle, Wesley (Hannah), Elyse, Evan and Becca Reynolds, Michael (Dannielle) and Jason Gallant and great-grandchildren Tatjana, Chase, Sapphire, Ciara, Landon, Taya, Kayel, Jasmine, Tieren, Jaxon and Abram. Mom was a life-long resident of Dundas. Predeceased by sister Margaret (George) Gilbertson, Harry (Pat) Hill, and Bruce Hill, brother-in-laws Ken Vincent and David Kingdon. Survived by in-laws Marilyn Hill, John and Teresa Kingdon, Ann Vincent, Doris Kingdon and Bob and Geneva Kingdon. Genealogy (“bone digging”) was her passion and she has left a legacy to us and her surviving nieces and nephews. She always had many interesting stories to tell. A small service will be held at Turner Family Funeral Home Ltd, Dundas, on Friday, June 30th, with visitation at 10:30 am, followed by funeral and burial at 11:00 am. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in July. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Ontario Genealogical Society would be greatly appreciated by the family.

Gent, Beatrice May Elkin (nee Davey) – Peacefully at The Georgian Retirement Home on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 in her 96th year. Predeceased by her first husband Harry Elkin (1992) and second husband Duncan Gent (2014). Dearly loved always by her son Robert (Shelley Scott) of Lynden and daughter Marilyn of Orangeville. Lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Andrew Elkin and Erin Ferguson (Brian); great-grandchildren Evelyn, Ethan, Addison, Nicholas and Ashley and many cousins, nephews and nieces and lifelong friends. Predeceased by her brother Bill and his wife Helen. Bea was an active and long time volunteer and former Auxiliary and Executive member at Wentworth Lodge, member of Dundas Valley Golf & Curling Club, volunteer at the Dundas Museum, founding member and President of the St. James’ WA, and a 75 year member of St. Jame’s Anglican Church. The family would like to thank the staff at The Georgian Retirement Home and Dr. Mohatarem for their kindness and loving care of our Mom. Friends will be received by the family on Sunday afternoon and evening from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas. Service for Bea will take place at ST. JAMES’ ANGLICAN CHURCH, 137 Melville Street, Dundas on Monday at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow. Interment Grove Cemetery. Ryan, Josiah Alan – With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Josiah. Loving son to Karin and Hany, devoted brother to Simon. He will be greatly missed by his many loving cousins in Hamilton, Toronto, Australia, Germany, New York, and Montserrat, his many uncles and aunts, and all of his loyal friends. Rest now, our beautiful boy. Friends will be received by the family on Thursday evening, June 29th, from 6-8 at the Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas. A celebration of Josiah’s life will be held at The First Unitarian Church of Hamilton, 170 Dundurn Street South, Hamilton, on Friday, June 30th at 1:00 p.m. Donations can be made in memory of Josiah to the CAMH Foundation.

Arnold, Rose Emma (nee Bauer) – Passed away at her residence on Sunday, June 11, 2017. Predeceased by her husband Werner (2013). Dearly remembered and loved by her daughter Helga (Heinz Gfroerer), her granddaughters Nadine and Christine and nieces in Germany. Keeping with Rose’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Boswell, Walter Edward “Ozzie” – With heavy hearts, the family of Walter Edward “Ozzie” Boswell announce his peaceful passing on June 10, 2017 in his 88th year. Ozzie, a dedicated and proud family man, is survived by his loving wife Nancy Elizabeth nee Fleischer of Ingersoll, Ontario; his dear sister Mary Elizabeth Frances and brother-in-law Claude Cornu of Park City, Utah; his seven children David (Kathi), John, Caroline (Dave), Jennifer, Mary (Allen), Judy (Mark) and Christopher (Karen); 19 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Raised in Seaforth, Ontario, Ozzie entered the workforce at an early age at London Life Insurance. Ozzie retired as a loved and respected teacher at Mohawk College, Hamilton. He will be remembered as a true gentleman with a kind and generous soul. The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the wonderful staff of St. Joseph’s Hospital, Hamilton for their compassion and care. We are forever thankful. Donations can be made in Ozzie’s memory to St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation. Cremation has taken place. McColl, Phyllis Irene (nee Burrows) – In loving memory of Phyllis Irene McColl (nee Burrows) who died peacefully on Wednesday, June 7, 2017, in her 97th year. Phyllis is survived by her children Philip McColl (Monica Scholz) (Ruth Belch) and Andrea McGrory (Paul McGrory) and her grandchildren Katherine Gill (Jared Gill), Rebecca Young (Travis Young), Francesca Loftus (Corey Loftus) and Macoll McGrory (Ellie Craig) and her great grandchildren Ashley and Piper Gill, Peyton and Madison Young, Theodore Loftus, Lily and Ava McGrory and her nieces and nephews George, Barb, Rosilyn, Marie, Sandy, Raymond Ruth, Alida, Keith and Kim. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband Clark ‘Barney’ McColl and her brothers Elwood and Grant Burrows. Phyllis was born on December 14th, 1920 in Trenton, Ontario to Fred and Myrtle Burrows (nee Spry) of Napanee. Phyllis was a true Trentonian and a lover of golf and the Trenton golf club, bridge, her political party and beautiful things. The family wish to thank all those who cared for her in her later years, especially the staff of Willowgrove LTC, The Bayfront Unit. Phyllis will be remembered for her elegance and being the life of the party. She will be missed dearly by her family. A memorial service will be held in her home town of Trenton later this summer. Boothroyd, Alan Denham B.Sc., M.B.A., P. Eng. – On May 26, 2017, surrounded by his loving family, Alan passed away peacefully. Beloved husband of sixty years to Judith, loving father of Susan Korporaal (Bill), Richard Boothroyd (Diane), and Valerie Powell (Jeff), proud Grandad of Robert, Angela, Samantha, Daniel, Alex, Amanda, Hannah, and Charlie. Alan was born on November 4, 1933 in Huddersfield, Yorkshire, England. He and Judith emigrated to Canada in 1965. They were avid world travellers. From 1969 to 1997 Alan was employed by Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. and in 1991-1995 went to United Nations in Vienna to work at the International Atomic Energy Agency. Alan’s artistic talents included set design for the Waterdown Village Theatre, painting, and photography. He and Judith shared a love for music, opera, theatre, and history. Alan’s family will welcome family and friends at Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas from 12:00 – 2:00 pm on June 1st, 2017. A light lunch and refreshments will be served. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Juravinski Hospital or a charity of your choice. Alan’s family is extremely grateful for the compassionate care provided by the health care team at Juravinski hospital.

Mary passed away peacefully at Wentworth Lodge in Dundas on May 9, 2017, at the age of 101. Mary is predeceased by: her husband, Robert (Bob); her parents, Joseph and Tekla (Kathleen) Stechyshyn, her brother Walter; her sisters, Jenny and Stella (McCosky). She is survived by her sons, Malcolm (Lin) and Graeme (Joan), her grandchildren, Derek (Amy), Heather, and Iain (Jacinthe), and her great-grandson, Elliot.
Mary was born in Fort William, Ontario, in 1915. Her father had emigrated from Jereirzany, Galicia, Poland, and her mother from the Ukraine – Austria. Her family moved soon after to Hamilton, Ontario, where she, and her siblings, were raised. Mary graduated from Delta High School before taking post-secondary studies in office administration. She started working for Canadian Sterling Electric Company, and eventually became secretary-treasurer. When she married Bob, she became the accountant and office/business manager and co-owner for McMaster Pottery in Dundas, for close to 40 years, until its closure in 1988.
Over her long life, Mary was a devout and supportive wife, mother and grandmother. She was the driving force of her immediate family, and along with her sisters-in-law, maintained a strong extended McMaster family. She enjoyed being active, being a member of the Dundas Travel Club and Garden Club for many years. She always strove to continually increase her knowledge in many areas, and was never lost for words when asked for an opinion. Mary was a tireless worker both at the pottery, in her garden, at her cottage, and especially, in the kitchen, where she was known for her cooking.
Mary became afflicted with dementia in her mid 80s. She remained in her own home until her late 90s, and then moved to Wentworth Lodge, where she received excellent care and comfort over the past 3 1/2 years.
A remembrance/interment service will be held at a later date.

Taylor, Linda Margaret – It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Linda Margaret McArthur Taylor, daughter of late Margaret Hanes McArthur and Lloyd McArthur. In her 67th year, surrounded by her two children, Linda died peacefully in hospital following a stroke. She will be sorely missed by her husband James B. (Jim) Taylor, her children Dallas and Delana (Pete), and her grandchildren Callaway, Blake, Austin, Colton, Harley and Alex. As well as the vast amount of family, friends and critters that had the pleasure of crossing paths and meeting her throughout the years starting at the 4 way stop to Taylor Farms. It will be a tremendous loss for the Flamborough community. In her final days, she received her final prayers of being with her son and daughter and their children in the same room, enjoying each other’s company. With a hand picked bunch of flowers from your garden, your favourite pair of cowboy boots on, the family would like to invite you in coming and sharing your memories on Thursday afternoon and evening from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas, where Linda’s Service will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. In Linda’s memory, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family. A luncheon will be held at Rock Chapel United Church, Friday afternoon following the interment.
