November 5, 1932 – March 19, 2018
Gourlay, Elaine Elizabeth (nee Hope) – It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Elaine, on Monday, March 19, 2018 in her 85th year. Loving wife to Charles Gourlay for over 50 years (predeceased), amazing mother to Ian (Laura) and Jane Perry (Dave), devoted grandmother to Colton, Blake, Leon, Jess, Alexis, William and Ashley. Elaine’s greatest love was always her family, she adored all of us and us her. Throughout her life she traveled the world. She was a daycare teacher for over 30 years, touching and changing the life of everyone she met. Mom was so intelligent, so beautiful, so kind, this world was truly a better place with her in it. Fashion was one of her favourite things and to her family she will always be remembered fondly as our fashionista. A private celebration of Elaine’s life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Alzheimer Society, would be appreciated by the family.
I believe our family knew your mother and father as Chick and Dolly. Please accept our condolences. We lost our dad – Bill Walker – just over a week before your mother. Dad always spoke of old friends and your mother and father were often in his thoughts.

Jane and Ian,
I’m so sorry to hear of Elaine’s passing. I used to work with your Mom at Knox Day Care and I have thought of her often. She was an absolutely wonderful person and a good friend to me. I wish you strength and peace as you move forward in your lives. I know she will be dearly missed.
So sorry to hear of your mother’s passing. She was always so kind and gracious. My deepest condolences to you and your family on the loss of this wonderful lady.
Ian and family , very sorry for your loss
Dear Jane and Ian,
Your parents were wonderful neighbours and friends when we lived on Iona. I remember the many wonderful conversations I had with your kind and loving Mom. She loved art, reading, exploring the world with your Dad. She also was a great teacher. Love and best wishes. Jolink family
