Mohoruk, Margaret, long time resident of Dundas, Ontario, died on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Villa. She was 94. She was born Margaret Sinka on April 14, 1924 in Hamilton, Ontario. She had a successful career as an administrator at St. Joseph’s Hospital and the picture above was taken upon her retirement in 1991. Margaret married Nicholas John Mohoruk and together they had three sons, Gregory Mark, Nicholas John and Terrance Gary. Gregory and his wife Joette Cantafio, Nicholas and his wife Lynda Waine, and Terrance were all at Margaret’s bedside when she passed peacefully in her sleep at the Villa. Margaret is survived by her sons and her grandchildren, Nicholas Ryan Mohoruk, Loren Mohoruk, Aleksandar Sebestyen Mohoruk and Conrad Theodore Mohoruk, and her great-granddaughter Isabel Grace Goulding. She was predeceased by her husband, Nick in 1997. As per Margaret’s wishes there will be no visitation nor memorial services. Margaret will be interred at the St. Augustine’s Cemetery in Dundas, Ontario. Memorial donations may be made in Margaret’s name to the St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation.

April 26, 1944 – November 24, 2018
Marion Shearer, aged 74, died peacefully at Sunnybrook Palliative Care Unit on November 24, 2018 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her only sister Margaret McFadyen and a host of loving friends.. It was her wish to be cremated and to have her ashes united with those of her husband James, and interred in the Shearer family plot in Dundas. A memorial service will be planned and the date and place announced later.

Newell, Bernard “Bernie” – After a short illness on Friday, November 9th in his 94th year, Bernie passed away at the Hamilton General Hospital. Predeceased by his wife Barbara (2015). Dear father of Janet and her husband Stephen Jewell. Bernie is survived by his sister Margaret and was a special Dad to Barbara, Sheila, relatives and friends, all in England. Predeceased by brothers Fred and Roy. Bernie was proud to have served in the British 8th Army. He arrived in Dundas in 1953 to start a new life. He was the co-owner of Mechanical Contracting Trades Ltd. for over twenty-five years. There were many pleasures following retirement. He and Barb took trips throughout the world, including the first flight on the Concorde from Toronto to England. He was a lifetime member at Dundas Golf and Country Club. He enjoyed the family cottage in Parry Sound and the quiet time of fishing and, socializing at the S.I.M gym in Dundas. He exchanged kindnesses to the residents at the Villa Estates, not forgetting the numerous newspapers. Many thanks to the second floor staff at Amica in Dundas as well as the Doctors and nurses at the General Hospital for their care and compassion. Special thanks to Dr. Kaitlynn for her thoughtfulness. In keeping with Bernie’s wishes, family will attend a private burial. If so desired, donations can be made to the Hamilton General Hospital, Mission Services of Hamilton or the charity of your choice.

Surrounded by the love of his family, Jim Giacinti passed away peacefully in his 67th year on November 9, 2018, after a long and hard fought battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Beloved husband of Janelle. Wonderful father to Jillian, Jeralee (Jack), and Jolene (Lachlan), and grandfather to Lucas and Hannah. Brother to Mary Jo, Chris, Jonathan (predeceased), Elizabeth, Lois, and Jerry. Uncle and cousin to many. Jim loved his furry friends, especially his buddy “Cammie”. A quiet man, Jim bravely faced the challenges that life dealt him with courage, and a smile that would light up the room. We would like to thank the many people who have supported him in his journey over the years, including Dr. W. Oczkowski, the staff of Wentworth Lodge, and Cindy. Your help will never be forgotten. As would be Jim’s wishes, no funeral service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Hamilton Burlington SPCA would be appreciated.

April 28, 1963 – November 6, 2018
Left the stage far too soon, surrounded by family, at the Juravinski Hospital on November 6th at age 55 after a short but ferocious fight with pancreatic cancer. Beloved husband of Shelly. Devoted father to Bailey and Wilson. Remembered by siblings Sue, Bob and Peter; his entire band family; and all those he was a friend and mentor to. A good and righteous man who was full of witty comments and constant enthusiasm for the talents of those around him.
Friends and family are invited for visitation at Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main St, Dundas, on Friday, November 16 from 2-4pm & 7-9pm and on Saturday, November 17 from 2-4pm & 7-9pm.
“The Mike Northcott After Party” will be held on Sunday, November 18 from 12pm until 6pm at the Boston Manor in Burlington. We welcome all who loved him to gather on this special day to share music, stories, and friendship in Mike’s honour.

Green, Catherine Norma – Of Dundas at the age of 89, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 4, 2018 at Blackadar Continuing Care. Born July 8, 1929 in Hamilton, ON, she was the daughter of the Late William Biggins and Mary (May) Biggins (Weightman). Norma, as she was known by all, loved to bowl, play euchre and do 3D paper toll. She loved spending time with her family, either playing euchre, bowling or just sitting out in the back yard talking. Surviving Norma is her loving husband Jack F. Green of Dundas, son Brett (Louie) Green of Dundas and daughter Darci Beamish (Green) of Calgary, her three grandchildren Christopher Beamish (Melissa), Kimberly Vockins Beamish and Cameron Beamish, and her two great-grandchildren Marshall and Vayda, as well as her sister-in-law Jane Biggins and her brothers-in-law Dave Green, Brad Clarke and Jack Peer. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Norma will be deeply missed by her family. Norma was predeceased by her brother William Biggins, daughter-in-law Christine Green, son-in-law Dale Beamish, brothers-in-law Allen, Alf, Art, Ern and sisters-in-law Mary, Annalee (Polly) and Sally. Special thanks to Dr. West and all the nurses and staff at Blackadar’s Continuing Care for the care and compassion shown to Norma during her stay. In keeping with Norma’s wishes, cremation has taken place and an inurnment was held with her family at graveside. If you so wish, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated by the family.

Passed away peacefully at Juravinski Hospital on Tuesday November 6th, 2018 in his 88th year. Beloved husband of Eleanor for over 22 years. Loving father to Albert (Tracy) Boyle, Ginny (Morris) MacLeod, Barbara (Dave) Chandler, Julie (John) Clarke and step-father to Scott (Lana) McIntyre and Lisa (Jeff) Boulton. Caring grandfather to 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren with one on the way, and one great-great-grandchild on the way. Bert will also be sadly missed by Cathie and Gord Kosterewa, Ellen and Bob Stevens, Marius and Juliana Nechifor, Alicia and Derek Bragg. Bert worked for Dundas Hydro for over 30 years, first as a linesman and then in purchasing and planning. He also worked on the 1967 Centennial Project for the Kinsmen Club planning Edward’s Park in Dundas. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Bert’s Life will take place on Sunday, December 2, 2018 from 1-4p.m. at the Dundas Legion Branch 36, 280 King St W, Dundas.

Virginia left us peacefully at St. Joseph’s Healthcare, Hamilton. Virginia was well loved by her daughter, Patricia MacLeod, and her husband David, her son, Thomas Bontje, and his wife Clara, and four terrific grandsons, Christopher MacLeod with his wife Philippa, Jeffrey MacLeod and Jacquelyn, Justin Bontje, Matthew Bontje and Molly. She also leaves her brother Donald Stevenson. Virginia was predeceased by husbands Alfred Hanley and Henry Bontje.
Virginia grew up in Kingston and then spent more than sixty years in London. Five and a half years ago, she moved to Amica at Dundas and enjoyed this community.
A service to celebrate Virginia’s life will be held at Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas on Saturday, November 10th at 1:00 pm with visitation one hour before the service, reception to follow.
Donations in Virginia’s memory to the St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation in Hamilton will be appreciated. The hospital’s care of Virginia was exceptional.

Grunthal, Frederika “Rika” (nee Van der Mey) – Passed peacefully at St. Joseph’s Villa, Dundas, on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 in her 80th year. Wife of 60 years to Edgar Grunthal, loving mother of Paul, mother-in-law to Lara, and proud Oma of Emily and Montgomery. Eldest sister to the Late Mary (Jerry Bos), Helena (Ton), Cobie (Ralph Skinner), Jack Van der Mey, Edith (Jim Neil) and Nel Van der Mey. Sister-in-law of Evelyn Van der Mey. With her family, she immigrated to Canada in 1953. Rika talked little about the war but always attended Remembrance Day ceremonies to give thanks to those that gave their lives to liberate her homeland. She was a proud Canadian. At the age of 20 she married Ed and settled down in Hamilton to raise a family. Rika, Ed and Paul later moved to Dundas and took full advantage of the town’s hiking trails and conservation areas. Rika is lovingly remembered as an avid gardener, past president of the Hamilton Holland Club, lifeguard and swimming instructor, volunteer at citizenship ceremonies for Immigration and Citizenship Canada, enthusiastic naturalist and traveller, and Dutch Hindeloopen folk art instructor. Special thanks to Dr. Boyd and the staff at St. Joseph’s Villa for their care and compassion. A Celebration of Life will be held at Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas on Sunday, November 11, 2018 from 2-4 p.m. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society.

Suddenly the Lord took unto himself Trudy Taylor (Turkstra) nee DeBoer on Saturday October 27, 2018 in her 95th year. Predeceased by her parents Rem and Roelof DeBoer, her husbands Wilfred Turkstra (1968) and Lynn Taylor (2000); brothers Bud DeBoer and Jerry DeBoer and sisters Margaret Palmer and Jean DeYoung. She was very proud of her five children Rick (Ann) Turkstra, Ron (Elaine) Turkstra, Bev (Jerry) Boschman, Bryan (Jill) Turkstra and Sherri (Tom) Blok. Special gramma to her twenty grandchildren Melissa Turkstra, Heather Barnes, Christopher Turkstra, Nicole Gibson, Mark Turkstra, Paul Turkstra, Andrew Turkstra, Ian Turkstra, Marisa Arnold, Steve Boschman, Cindy Harrison, Lindsay Riddell, Matthew Boschman, Brett Turkstra, Jaisa Turkstra , Brooke Turkstra, Kayla Blok, Sheldon Blok, Adrienne Blok, and Kevin Blok. She also had twenty-six marvelous great-grandchildren plus two more any day now. Survived by her sister-in-law Phylis DeBoer and Tom & Jane Van Zuiden. Trudy had a special fondness for her step-daughter Patti Taylor. Many thanks to the wonderful care she received from the staff at Wentworth Lodge and the special care from the emergency staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Friends and family are invited to Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main St. Dundas, on Tuesday October 30th from 2-4p.m. & 7-9p.m. A funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s United Church, 29 Park St. W., Dundas, on Wednesday October 31st at 11:00a.m..
