FREEMAN, Alfred James – Peacefully, at the Meadows in Ancaster on Sunday, September 1, 2013, Alfred James Freeman (Fred), in his 97th year, passed away with family by his side.  Fred served proudly in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II and continued with his passion for flying throughout his life.  He worked with dedication for the Hamilton Post Office for 38 years and retired as  Superintendent Operations.  He is now reunited with his loving wife of 65 years, Sarah, who passed away February 2, 2007.  Fred is survived by his brother, Russ Freeman of Halifax and his family, four children, Russell Freeman and wife Lynn of Kingston, Ross Freeman and wife Kelli of Delray Beach, Florida, Judy Freeman-Werstiuk and husband Nick Werstiuk of Ancaster, and Jan Freeman of Hamilton.  He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Christopher Freeman (Colleen), Paul Freeman (Miranda), Angela Freeman, Brittany, Kendall and Connor Werstiuk and Brendan and Kiara MacRury, along with two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Charlie Freeman.  We would like to thank the committed staff at the Meadows for their outstanding care of our father during his many years as a resident.  A private family service will be held at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Hamilton.

November 2, 1953 – August 27, 2013

After a heroic battle with cancer, Guy died peacefully at home on Tuesday, August 27, 2013.  Beloved husband of Eveline and proud father of Greg and Johnny. Much loved brother of Bert (Helen), Helena, and Owen (Lisa), and loving stepson of Maggie. Adored by nephews and nieces in England and Canada. Predeceased by parents Ernest and Marjorie and brother Ernie. Guy was a true gentleman with a great sense of humour. Friends will be received on Tuesday from 1 p.m. at the Cattel, Eaton & Chambers Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas, where a Celebration of Guy’s Life will be held at 2 p.m. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Juravinski  Cancer Centre would be appreciated.

Murphy, Jonathan Sean

It is with deep sadness that his family announce Jon’s passing as the result of an accident in Alberta on Friday, August 16, 2013.  Jon was the beloved son of Stella and Alan, much loved brother of Rachel (Adam), Michael, Kevin and Tim (Rosanna).  Jon will also be sadly missed by his Grandad Bill, his nieces Melissa and Alana, and his family in England.  Predeceased by his father Peter Murphy. Jon will be loved and remembered for his great sense of humour and many acts of kindness.  Friends will be received by his family, on Monday evening from 7-9 p.m. at the Cattel, Eaton & Chambers Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas, where a Celebration of Jon’s Life will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m.  Cremation has already taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Toronto Hospital for Sick Children would be appreciated by the family.

Valvasori, Joyce Terese (nee Repa) – After a brief and courageous battle with cancer, Joyce died peacefully with family by her side on August 18, 2013, at the age of 74 years.  Loving wife of Jim Sr. Dearest mother of Julie and Jimmy.  Proud and devoted Gramma to Big Kyle, Camille, Samantha, Little Kyle and Amanda.  Great Gramma to Shay, Arianna, Allyah, Myah and Mathew.  Loved cousin to Joanne(Clare) and god-mother to Adam John.  Loved sister-in-law to Rosie (Philip), Ronnie (Rene), Jean (Paul), Betty (Barry), John (Georgina), and the late Joanne (Andre).  Sadly missed by family and her many friends.  Friends will be received by the family, on Thursday, August 22, from 1 p.m. until the Service for Joyce at 2 p.m. at the Cattel, Eaton & Chambers Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas.  We are grateful for the loving care from the nurses and doctors at St. Joseph’s Hospital.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cancer Society or the Hamilton S.P.C.A would be appreciated by the family.

Carpenter, Mary Evelyn “Myrt” nee Houghtling – Passed away suddenly at Brantford General Hospital in her 81st year.  Loving wife of Ted (Sparky) for 63 years. Dear mother of Dorothy and Jim (predeceased), Donald (Lola), Donna (John), Douglas (Colleen), Dennis (Nancy), Daniel (Teresa) and Debbie Ann.  Myrt will be deeply missed by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and also by her brother Jack (Liz) Houghtling and many of her  friends.  Friends will be received by the family on Wednesday afternoon and evening from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the Cattel, Eaton and Chambers Funeral Home 53 Main Street, Dundas, where the Celebration of Myrt’s Life will take place on Thursday at 10:30 a.m.  Donations to the Hamilton S.P.C.A would be appreciated by the family.

Grandfield, Betty Mae –  March 7, 1926  – August 18, 2013

(Former employee of North American Life Assurance Co.)  Betty was the devoted daughter of the late Fred and Gladys Grandfield and is survived by and will be sadly  missed by her loving sister Pat MacMillan (Don).  Betty was predeceased by her four brothers Stan, Norm (Diana), Bob (Elsie) and Ted (Ann). Betty was the dear aunt of Margaret, Stan, Bruce, Clive, Daphne, Mark and Andrew.  According to Betty’s wishes,
cremation has taken place.  A Graveside Service will be held at White Chapel Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Hamilton on Wednesday, August 21st, 2013 at 11 a.m.

Hawkins, Walter Douglas “Doug”

September 15, 1947 – August 11, 2013

Hawkins, Walter Douglas “Doug” – Passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital on Sunday, August 11, 2013.  Will be missed dearly by his friend and companion, Cathy and close friend Mike (Joyce) as well as his pets Andy, Ollie and Gracie.  Predeceased by his parents Don and Nancy.  A private service for Doug will take place.  Cremation to follow.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the SPCA, Ronald McDonald House, the Children’s Wish Foundation or St. Joseph’s Villa would be appreciated.

Waller, Eileen Joyce

Waller, Eileen Joyce – Peacefully at the Juravinski Hospital on Monday, August 12, 2013 in her 87th year.  Eileen came to Canada as a young war bride.  She and her late husband, Arnold, celebrated 67 wonderful years together.  She is survived by many nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews both here and across the pond.  A life full lived. In keeping with Eileen’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. at the Cattel, Eaton & Chambers Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas. Donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Heart Function Clinic at the Hamilton General would be appreciated by the family.

Webber, Henry (Harry)

January 26, 1926 – August 10, 2013

Webber, Henry (Harry), P.Eng  – After a brief illness, Harry passed away at the age of 87 on August 10, 2013.  He leaves behind his loving wife of 64 and a half years, Maureen Webber.  Also leaves his son Larry (Susan) and daughter Susan Steer (Christopher), grandchildren Chris (Lottie), Erin Scott (Trevor), step grandchildren Steven Hill (Sheri), Karen Tellier (Don), Ian Steer, Geoffrey Steer and 6 great grandchildren that he adored.  Predeceased  by his son John in 2001.  He is also survived by his brother James and sister Rena Forbes in the U.K.  Cremation has taken place.  He is at rest at Bayview Cemetery with his son John, who felt he had waited long enough to be with his dad again.  Donations to the Autism Society would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.

A true gentleman who had a massive influence on all of our lives.

Harris, Dawn Elizabeth (nee Gregg) – Unexpectedly, at her home on Thursday, August 1, 2013 in her 47th year.  Beloved wife and best friend of Shawn.  Elizabeth is predeceased by her parents Elizabeth and Milton as well as her sister Sherry.  Loving sister of Darrell Gregg, Vernon Gregg, Rhonda Gregg, Derek Gregg and Tina Monaghan.  Cherished daughter-in-law of Doug and Rena Baughan and will be sadly missed by all her family and several nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Elizabeth’s Life will be held at a later date.
