Tufts – Ralph Clifford – Just shy of his 97th birthday, Ralph Clifford Tufts of Dundas Ontario passed peacefully with family by his side on Monday Dec. 26th, 2016. Loving husband to the late Eva Lily Tufts for over 61 years, and beloved father of (David – deceased) Carolyn, (Ralph Jr. – deceased), Catherine Burke (Arthur), Gail Pellow (Bruce – deceased), Blair “Tim” (Donna – deceased), Philip (Rosanne – deceased), Valerie Snelling (Russell), Ralph will be forever remembered and dearly missed by many, many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and dear friends. Ralph’s life story begins in Halifax NS on January 6th 1920 and his love for Nova Scotia, the water, and boats stayed with him throughout his life providing many wonderful memories and stories that Ralph was known to share of his adventures he cherished along the shores of Tufts Cove Dartmouth NS and Bedford Basin as a young boy. Ralph and Eva, a true love story, met in grade two, and married on April 26th 1940. After attending Dalhousie University Halifax NS, Ralph found early that he had a keen interest and natural skill with radio communication and he turned this passion into a long career. After starting out in Nova Scotia working for the government of Canada in communications (homeland security) during WWII, Ralph and Eva moved their young family to Hamilton, Ontario in 1951 for Ralph’s job with Bob Moody & Co. A pioneer in the radio and television industry, Ralph was the first DJ in the Hamilton and Burlington area spinning vinyl records at the Brant Inn during the 60’s, proudly supplying the live tunes for the opening gala at the Beverly Golf & Country Club EST. 1957. Ralph’s carrier grew in TV and Radio working for Hamilton Niagara Coaxial Co., and Hamilton Video and Sound. Ralph continued his passion in life for amateur radio as a collector and avid HAM Radio operator (VE3BYM), being awarded the HARC Order of Merit. Always dapper, Ralph is fondly remembered for his smart wardrobe and as a collector and hansom wearer of fine neckties and hats. Ralph loved poetry, especially keen for Robert Frost; he loved sweets, pink panther, classic movies and was a long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 36 and Air Force Club in Dundas. A natural historian, Ralph was known for his colourful storytelling, sharing his lifelong interests, passions and humour through the stories he told with great enthusiasm. The time he spent with family and friends while sharing these memories is a tribute to the beauty of his heart and soul. Ralph’s inspiring presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to have known him. Friends will be received by the family on Monday evening from 6-9 at the Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas, where the Service for Ralph will be held Tuesday morning at 11 o’clock. Interment Grove Cemetery. Donations to the Dundas Salvation Army would be appreciated by the family.

Golakovich, Irene Agnes – Passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Villa in Dundas in her 78th year. She is survived by her husband of 56 years Alex, children Arlene, Donna and Daryl as well as sister Marilyn Warick. Predeceased by her parents Teresa and Gordon Fairbanks. She leaves with many fond memories of Hamilton, Binbrook and Florida. Many thanks to the entire staff of St. Joseph’s Villa for their kindness during her two and a half year stay there. Cremation has taken place and a private family celebration will be held at a later date.

Stafford, Margaret Claudene “Dene” (nee Cruickshanks) – Peacefully at the Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice on Tuesday, December 27, 2016. Beloved wife of the late John Richard “Dick” Stafford, and loving mother to John (Karen), Diane (Scott Monds) and Jason (Jennifer). Sadly missed by her grandchildren Kyle (Emily) and Taylor Stafford (Jason), Scotty and Joey Monds, Aaron and Jacob Stafford, her brothers Robert (Kathleen) and Paul (Rosemary) and many friends, nieces and nephews. Sardella, Shirley Eileen – Passed away peacefully at Wentworth Lodge, Monday, December 26, 2016. Dearly loved by husband Keith; son Michael (Patricia) and daughter Laura (Merlyn MacPhee); grandchildren Brandy Young, Grant MacPhee (Amanda) and Andrew Sardella; great grandchildren Aliexia and Aubrey; sisters Lillian Hoag (Alf) and Joanne Gortmaker (Karl, predeceased), Linda Hoag and many other nieces and nephews. Predeceased by sisters Irene Glidden and Phyllis Hollyburton. Beloved wife of the late Kenneth (1994), and loving mother to Randy (Dianne) and Blair (Sue), both of Dundas. Orla will be sadly missed by her 4 grandchildren: Jamie Lynn, Shawn, Kyle and Ryan, her 2 step-grandchildren Maddison and Meghan, her sister Marjory Wright and her brother-in-law Ralph. Predeceased by her brothers Jex and Lloyd Tew and her sister Helen McDonald. To Miu Fan Webb (“Fan”, also known as “Agnes”), beloved wife of Norman Webb, and devoted mother to Peter Chang, Clara Chang, Daniel Chang, and Melanie Webb, passed away peacefully and into the arms of the Lord on Sunday, December 18, 2016, after a long and courageous battle with a devastating neurodegenerative disorder. Born in Hong Kong, Fan was formerly a schoolteacher and nursing student before coming to Canada. Her four children were her life and she exhibited absolute devotion and commitment to them, spending countless hours teaching them all subjects, as well as the piano. She cared for her family above all else, and created an exquisitely beautiful and loving home. Her gardens were “works of art”, as one family member put it. Her innumerable creations of dress and knitting showcased her creative genius, as did her talent for painting. A lover of classical music, she fostered a respect for the art that carried on to her children. She also had a special fondness for animals (especially dogs), even though she had no canine or feline companions as an adult. While her life was undeniably extremely difficult, her struggles against hardship and adversity, and her accomplishments that followed, are a testament to her strength and fortitude. Despite or perhaps because of her own tragedies, she always exhibited kindness, compassion, and empathy to others. She was the epitome of good character and remains a model of such to her family. The family extends their thanks to all of the personal support workers for their care and attention over the past years, as well as the staff at Juravinski Hospital. Visitation will be held at St. Paul’s United Church, 29 Park St. W., in Dundas, on Friday, December 23, 2016 from 10:00 – 11:00am with a funeral service beginning at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations to Parkinson Canada or to the MSA Coalition (US) would be sincerely appreciated.

Thompson, Gordon Wayne – Surrounded by his loving family, Gord passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, December 14th at the age of 71. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Linda of 50 years, loving father of Troy (Michelle), Stacey and Aimee (Adriano). Proud Papa to Lily, Ella, Madilyn and Lucien. Gord will be missed by many friends, colleagues and fellow Rotarians of Hamilton AM Club. He will be especially missed by his dear friends Barbara and Bill McNab and Ellard and Opal McBane. We especially want to thank Gord’s “angels” Liz and Dr. Anil Kapoor. Also many thanks to Vita and CCAC. Cizikas, Vincas (Vince) Albertas – 61, of Lynden, Ontario, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on the morning of December 8, 2016. Vince was a big guy with a big heart. A devoted husband to his beloved wife, Irene, of 27 years, he worked tirelessly to provide for his family; a family he loved and would do anything for. Quick with a joke and quick to tease, he could brighten a room with his larger than life personality. A straight talker who always told you what he thought and told it like it was. If you didn’t like it, well… Vince spent nearly his entire career as a driver. From TTC buses to transport trucks, he could drive pretty much anything. One of his proudest accomplishments was being recognized for 10 years of service as a volunteer firefighter with the Burlington Fire Department. Living out a childhood dream, he drove a fire truck on numerous calls, fighting fires with his colleagues at Fire Station #2. When work was done he was a master of relaxing. With beer in hand and a beloved dog close by, he could while away the hours telling stories and shooting the breeze. Life was to be enjoyed. A favourite motto was “Why do today, what you can put off till tomorrow?” He loved fishing with his dad, playing darts, watching the Jays and making fun of the Leafs. When will they be good? “Neeeext Yeeeear!” Vince was a large man who had an even larger impact in the lives of many people. He will be dearly missed. Vince is predeceased by his parents Barbara and Albertas Cizikas, and is survived by his wife Irene, daughter Sonya (Gary) Mackin and their children Alec and Josh; his son Trevor (Christine) and step-son David (Jayne) Whyte; his sister Vanda (Bobby) Slaney and their family, and his brother Peter and his family. A remembrance will be held on Saturday, December 17th at 2 p.m. at the Lynden Legion Hall, 206 Lynden Rd., Lynden, ON. L0R 1T0. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Vince can be made to the Ontario SPCA.
