Milton, Doreen Lillian (nee Whitnall) – Peacefully at St. Joseph’s Villa on Tuesday, August 5, 2014.  Loving wife to Walter for 66  years.  Always remembered and loved by her son John.  Special thank you to the staff at St. Joseph’s Villa for their care and support over the years.  A Memorial Service will be held for Doreen at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, 1140 King St. W., Hamilton  on  Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 2 p.m.  Cremation has taken place.  Inurnment was held at Bayview Cemetery.  If you so wish, donations to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated by the family.

Lane, Dr. Norman D.

November 5, 1919 – August 6, 2014

Lane_NormDr. Norman D. Lane – Dr. Norman Douglas Lane passed away peacefully in his sleep in Hamilton, ON, on August 6, 2014 at the age of 94. Norm was a renaissance man, a family man, and a devoted husband to the love of his life, Doris, over their 71 years of marriage. Parents Maude and Harry, brothers Les and Ken and sister Shirley predeceased Norm. He was the proud father of five sons – Douglas (Ann), Brian, Stephen (Brenda), Alan (Robin) and Christopher (Cristina); and nine grandchildren – Michael, Andrea, Carolyn, Dorian, Alyssa, Chloe, Hudson, Amanda and Ryan. Norm was born on Nov. 6, 1919 in Toronto.  He earned his PhD in Mathematics from the University of Toronto and was a distinguished professor at McMaster University in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics from 1952 to 1987. Norm was also a world-class canoeist, competing in two Olympic games: London 1948 (Bronze Medalist in the C-1 10,000 M) and Helsinki 1952 (finished 5th). Throughout the 40’s and 50’s, he competed in Canadian and North American canoeing regatta’s, winning numerous championships. Norm was a lifetime member of the Balmy Beach Canoe Club and also an accomplished gymnast. Home away from home was the family cottage on Buck Lake, near Kingston, where since the mid 60’s, the family spent each summer. It became a labour of love as Norm spent many summers finishing the interior, landscaping, canoeing and clearing the shoreline. A Celebration of Norm’s Life will be held at Binkley United Church, 1570 Main Street West, Hamilton, ON L8S 1E8, on Monday, August 11, 2014. The visitation will take place at 10:00 AM with a service to follow at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Norman Douglas Lane Bursary Fund, McMaster University, 1280 Main St. West, Hamilton, Ontario L8S 4L8, Reg. Charity # 119035988RR0001.

Brooks_Don_OvalBrooks, Donald “Don” – Passed away on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Villa, beloved husband of Bev (nee Kane), in his 79th year. Dear father of Michele (Vince), Patrick (Annie), Leslie (Mark), Janice, and Jennifer (Terry). Don will be sadly missed by his “Hippy Farmers” (Grandkids); Meghan (Dustin), Derek (Sara),  Jordan, Abigail, Matthew, Josh, DJ, Shannon, Patrick, Nolan, Samantha, his great granddaughter Addison, sister Darlene Cornell (John), and his brother Gord (Barb). Predeceased by his sister Audrey Gottfredsen and brother Russell Brooks. Survived by many nieces and nephews. Give Kathy a Hug! Friends will be received by the family on Monday afternoon and evening from 2-4 & 6-8 at the Cattel, Eaton & Chambers Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas, where the Service for Don will be held Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m. Cremation has taken place. The family wishes to thank the staff of Pinegrove at St. Joseph’s Villa for the love and care provided to Don and the family,  and to the CCAC. Chambers, Gregory Scott

In his 30th year, passed away peacefully at his home Sunday (funday) August 3rd, 2014 surrounded by his family. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Shawna Chambers (nee) VanderHarst.  Parents Edward & Marlene Chambers, siblings Krista & Curtis Ashley, Mark Chambers Parents in law Jim & Diana VanderHarst siblings Jelle & Renee, Jason & Amanda, Jeff & Ally VanderHarst, nephews Will Ashley, Jimmy VanderHarst niece’s Grace (C.C) Ashley & Leona (no no) VanderHarst.  Predeceased by Don & Susie Chambers and Art & Mary Edworthy. Greg was a brave, strong young man who’s warm infectious smile will be missed by everyone that knew him. A celebration of Greg’s extraordinary life will be held at Rockton Fair Grounds Friday, August 8th, 2014 from 2:00pm until 5:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to Juravinski Cancer Centre, Princess Margaret Hospital or Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Skirrow, Keith – May 16, 1934 – July 29, 2014.  Passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Villa at the age of 80.  Beloved husband of Donna for 49 years.  Loving father of Steven (Wendy) and Sandra (Jeff McLean).  Proud grandfather of
Joshua, Joel, Bethany, Hannah, Ciara and Kevin.  Brother of Joyce Douglas and Earl Skirrow.  Predeceased by sisters Helen and Thelma.  Special thanks to St. Joseph’s Villa for their care and support.  Friends will be received by the family on Thursday afternoon and evening from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Cattel, Eaton & Chambers Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas.  Keith’s Service will be held at WEST HIGHLAND BAPTIST CHURCH, 1605 Garth Street, Hamilton on Friday at 11:00 a.m.  Interment at Culver-Collver Cemetery.  For those who wish, memorial donations made to St. Joseph’s Villa or West Highland Baptist Church would be appreciated.

Groen, Andy

May 7, 1930 – July 21, 2014

In his 85th year, at home on July 21, 2014. Husband of the late Irene Groen (2009), brother to Tom (Alice), Neil (Wilma), George (1987) (Betty) and Elizabeth (2011), (Anton) (2013).  Survived by children, John (Toby), Judy (Gerry), and Sue (Tom); grandchildren, Michael (Angela), Murray, Adam, Becky, Tyson, Melissa, Amy, and Brittney; great grandchildren Jonathan, Chloe, Carson, Bryson, and Emma. Also survived by two aunts Adriana Vanderschee and Jany  Groen, many nieces and nephews, plus many close relatives in the Netherlands.  An entrepreneur and farmer for most of his life, Andy was also a life member and past president of the Ancaster Agricultural Society.  He was a passionate believer in the importance of family and was instrumental in keeping relationships active with relatives and friends in Canada and the Netherlands.  In keeping with Andy’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no funeral service will be held. Many thanks to all the CCAC workers and the VON whose support allowed Andy to remain in his home for many years.  Also our thanks go to Dr. Gideon and Dr. Pickett, who made his last few years so much easier by making house calls.  Their compassion is greatly appreciated. Smokey died as he lived:  in charge.  He can now rest in comfort and in peace.
