Brick, Loreen Evelyn “Boona” (nee Starchuk)

Passed away peacefully at home on Sunday February 26, 2017, at the age of 84. Loreen was predeceased by her beloved husband Bob (2013). Dear mother of Lori Garwood-Jones, Joe (Vivian), Mike (Caron), Deborah Brick-Witter (Brian), Diane Wilson and Alan (Barb). Cherished grandmother of  Emily Berry, Bobbi-Jo, Jessie, Paul (Michelle), Jennifer (Dave), Mark (Shannon), Cassey, Rachel, Jamie (Josh), Chantelle, Jodie (Jason), Chad (Karri) and Callie. Adored great-grandmother of Bianca, Eliza, Allyssa, Jason, Michael, Austin, Lily, Colson, and Logan. Loreen is survived by her sister, Kay Cote of Alberta, as well as many nieces and nephews. She will be lovingly remembered by her family and many friends. Family and friends are invited to Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main St. Dundas, on Friday March 3, 2017 from 10-11am. A memorial service will follow at 11am. Cremation has taken place. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family.

Steinke, Erica (nee Emmrich)

October 12, 1933 – February 13, 2017

STEINKE, Erica (nee Emmrich) –  February 13, 2017 – Passed away suddenly but peacefully in her sleep. Erica was at her much loved Florida home. Beloved wife of the late Arnold Steinke (2003) she is now with her love for eternity. Loved and remembered by her daughters Sue Lacey and Rose Saunders and sons Pete Steinke and John (Carolyn) Steinke. Much loved Oma to Erin, Trevor, Jack, Emma, Leah, Oliver and Lincoln and Great Omi of Ella. She will be dearly missed by family and friends in Canada, U.S. and Germany. Cremation has taken place. Friends will be received by the family on Monday, February 27 from 11 until the Service for Erica at 12 noon at the Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas, with reception to follow at the Cattel Centre. Donations to a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated  by the family.

Scott, Ruth

July 31, 1920 – February 16, 2017

Scott, Ruth (nee Trivett) – With great sadness we announce the passing of Ruth Scott on February 16, 2017, in her 97th year, of natural causes. She was a proud resident of 19 Gailmont Dr. Hamilton.  It has been said that if you were to look in the dictionary under Mother you would find Ruth Scott. She was that and much more. She was matriarch of the Trivett clan, a great cook, baker, gardener, caretaker and friend. Predeceased by the love of her life Stan and much a loner Ruth was all about family. She loved her dogs. Ruth survived the depression and her thriftiness and money savvy allowed her generosity and a good life.  Self-taught she loved to read. Ruth was always the last one at the table and put other’s needs before her own. Ruth leaves behind sons Bill (Maureen) and Bob (Wendy).  Nana to Sarah (Joey), Rob (Ashley), Alexandrea (Mike), Andrew and Anthony.  Great Nana to Tristan and Wyatt.  Sisters Miriam, Kay, Ruby and June.  Brothers George (predeceased), Cedric, Reg and Ron, as well as her special friend Joyce. Thanks to her close friends Bev and Wayne Heacock and Valerie Mills for their love and support. A special thanks to all at Wentworth Lodge for making her final years comfortable. Life is a little better today for all of us who were touched by Ruth. Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life service at Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main St. Dundas, on Saturday February 25, 2017 from 1 – 3 P.M.. VanderDussen, Gerrit (Gerry)

Gerrit (Gerry) VanderDussen, 81, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2017 at Island Park Retirement Home in Campbellford, with his family at his side. Gerry leaves behind and will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 58 years, Marilyn (Pettit), his daughter Sharon (Steve), his sons, David (Mary) and Lorne (Diane), and twelve grandchildren: Marianne, William, Iain, Elena (Emad), Livia (Mark), Emma (Avi), Aaron, Joshua and Sarah, and three great-grandchildren: Tessa, Ammar and Ada as well as extended family members and friends.   Pre-deceased by daughter Nancy.  In 1949, at the age of 13, Gerry immigrated to Canada from Holland along with his parents Herman and Lena VanderDussen and three siblings, Cathy (deceased 2016), Peter and Ada.  At the age of 15 he enrolled as an apprentice machinist at Bertram’s in Dundas to learn the trade that was to become his career.   Gerry worked briefly at McMaster University after completing his apprenticeship; then secured a career position at Stelco in Hamilton.  Gerry took pride in his work and continued to provide machining services from his garage workshop for family and acquaintances after retiring from Stelco.   Additionally, many hours were spent in volunteer time to provide support services to the local Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) workshop. Known for his gentle smile and commitment to family and community activities, Gerry lived a life of being an example to others.  Visitation and a service commemorating Gerry will be held Thursday, February 16th at the Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main St., Dundas, ON, L9H 2P7.  Friends will be received starting at 12:00; the memorial service will begin at 1:30.  A social tea will follow.  Interment will take place at Fairfield Church cemetery at 4:30. Donations in his memory can be made to the CNIB or to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.

Jones, Frank Sr.

May 23, 1939 – February 12, 2017

Jones, Francis “Frank” – It is with great sadness that the family of the late Frank Jones announce his passing at his home on Sunday, February 12, 2017. Frank was predeceased by his beloved wife Pearl in 2015.   Loving father of Frank Jr. (Kathy), Carol-Ann (Gary), and David (Shannon).  Loving grandfather  of Ashley (Trevor), Natasha, Grace, Halle and Liam and great-grandfather of Mason and  Jayce. Frank will be sadly missed by his brothers Patrick, Billy, Kenny and Colin and was predeceased by his sister Jacqueline. Friends will be received by the family on Wednesday afternoon and evening from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas.  Funeral Mass to be held at ST. AUGUSTINE’S CHURCH, 58 Sydenham Street, Dundas on Thursday, February 16  at 10:00 a.m.  Cremation has taken place.  As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Cancer Assistance Program CAP.  Special thanks to the staff and caretakers from the CCAC, VON, Homewell, the Juravinski Cancer Centre and Dr. Zou.

 

Richardson, George Abbott

November 20, 1929 – February 11, 2017

Richardson, George Abott – Passed away peacefully in his 88th year on February 11, 2017. He is survived by Marie, his best friend and beloved wife of many years, and will be missed by his nieces and nephews, especially Tom Richardson. George was born on November 20, 1929, in Ancaster. He worked for Howell Lithographing in Burlington for many years. George and Marie were a well-travelled couple who thoroughly enjoyed one another’s company. Marie shared George’s love of flying, and in their spare time, they would fly around the Hamilton area in George’s Tiger Moth. They also loved animals, and over the years opened their home to a succession of dogs and birds. George was an avid golfer and member of the Dundas Golf Club. He also prized his cars, which he lovingly buffed to a high sheen every week. He will be remembered fondly by friends and neighbours. At George’s request, there will be no funeral service. The interment, which has been arranged by the Turner Family Funeral Home, will take place on Thursday, February 23rd at 11:00 a.m. in Woodland Cemetery.
