Selzer, Walter Joseph – After a long and happy life, Walter passed away peacefully on June 16, 2018. He leaves behind a lifetime of love and memories for his daughter Christine (John) and his grandsons Ben and Wilson (Comeau). He will be remembered and missed by his German family – Franz, Bernadette, Sebastian and Georg Roth and their wonderful families. Walter also leaves behind his niece Stephanie and her family in Toronto. Walter will be with his beloved Hanni again, having lived 3 doors from her growing up, then venturing bravely to Canada together in their early 20’s to start a life, and celebrating almost 59 years of marriage before she passed. His last years, Walter fought with strength and grace against the effects of Alzheimer’s. Always smiling, he warmed the hearts of all who cared for him and loved him. Dad’s heart was strong and full of love and concern for his family and friends. He enjoyed his sports – soccer, skiing and tennis – as well as spending time at Gull Lake, his home on Sussex St., his time in Panama City Beach, FL and cherished his many visits after retirement to beautiful Heidelberg, Germany, his childhood home. Before retirement, dad was an architect for the City of Hamilton and leaves behind many landmarks he proudly designed during that time. Thank you to all who cared for dad in his final years. His amazing caregiver Benita who was an angel to our family and a wonderful human being. The staff at Wentworth Lodge who always work hard to make sure our loved ones have a dignified quality of life in their final years. Thank you to all who passed through dad’s life, and please keep a memory of him in your hearts. Rest in peace, Opi. Friends will be received by the family on Thursday, June 28 from 2-4 for a celebration of dad’s life at the Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas. A private burial has taken place. If you so wish, donations to the Alzheimer Society would be greatly appreciated by the family.
“That man is a success – who leaves the world better than he found it; who has never lacked appreciation of earth’s beauty or failed to express it; who looked for the best in others and gave the best he had.”
