It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elise Marie Gudbergsen-Christiansen, who was born on July. 10th, 1932, in Østermarie, a small village on the island of Bornholm in Denmark. She was halfway through her 93rd year when she passed away peacefully from natural causes with family by her side on January. 16th, 2026. She resided at Wentworth Lodge Retirement Home in Dundas during the time of her passing. After moving to Canada in the 1950’s, she would plan to meet her sister, Nita. She would go on to meet her husband, Allan Bechgård Christiansen. They were married on June. 25th, 1960, and began a life together in Dundas on the farm that is still owned by the family today. In her younger years, Elise graduated as an RN in Denmark and spent her career working at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hamilton, Ontario. She was the loving matriarch to four children, Britta, Michael, Carl, and Gunnar, who will think fondly of the happy memories they shared. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Allan, in 2004, and their oldest son, Michael, in 1993. Her six grandchildren, Alyssa, Jordan, Michael, Mike, Jenna, and Lisa, will miss her dearly. She was even blessed enough to enjoy many visits with her great-granddaughter, Hallie. Elise enjoyed slow, quiet afternoons but was also never one to stay idle for very long, which was clear in her abundance of hobbies, from embroidery to gardening to world travel to keeping an active horse farm well-maintained. She was an active member of the Grimsby Danish Lutheran Church before it closed down. She lived a long and full life and left a positive impression on everyone she met. A celebration of life and memorial service in Elise’s honour will be held at the Air Force Club on 128 King St. E in Dundas on Saturday. January. 31st. from 2:00 – 5:00 PM. Your presence is much appreciated.
I had the pleasure of working with Elise at St Joes. She was a wonderful lady and an excellent nurse. My condolences to her family.Rest in peace now.
Dear Christiansen family – I am so sorry for your loss. My first horse ” Bonnie Guest” was boarded at your farm for many years by my Father Bill ( William Davis). Due to your family’s wonderful care, Bonnie actually outlived my Father by 10 years ( my Dad passed away in 1985 and Bonnie in 1995). Your Father used to always say Bonnie was really good with the young foals after they were weaned from their mothers. I am so happy that you have kept the farm in the family and whenever I am down in your area, I look to see the horses in the paddocks.
Sincere condolences to the family. Many years ago, I spent many wonderful afternoons at your farm where I boarded two horses. Whenever I was there I knew I was in a wonderful safe place away from the hustle and bustle of selling cars. People at the dealership always kidded me about the smell of my car, always of horses. Alan and Elsie were two of the kindest, hard-working people I’ve ever met, and I, to this day, always cherish my memories of spending time at the farm with the long lane at the back running parallel with the concession road. Much thanks to Alan and Elsie for their friendship and all that Alan taught me about caring for my horses. Now they are together again, blessings to your family. I am sorry for your loss.
