It is with grieving hearts that we announce the passing of Janice, beloved spouse and Mum, on Monday, September 8th, 2025 at the age of 71 peacefully in the sunshine.
Janice lived a life filled with creativity, kindness and devotion to family. As a lifelong lover of arts, Janice embraced many different forms and eras of artistic expression throughout her journey including piano, sewing/quilting, painting (tole, watercolour and Chinese). Her talents leave us with many glimpses of her soul through her paintings and comforting hugs through her quilts. Her spirituality was constantly evolving and was a guiding force throughout her life.
Above all, Janice was devoted to her family. Beloved spouse of Michael whom was always by her side. Janice enjoyed bringing silliness to their relationship to the very end. Amazing mother of Vanessa (Peter), Philip, Conor (Lam) and Alison (Aaron). Janice cherished family gatherings at her home filled with lots of food, laughter and games. The many traditions she shared will continue to be passed down to her grandchildren. Loving Bubbie to Miranda, Hailey, Jaxson, Ada, Jana, Sloane and Cillian (January 2026). She will be dearly missed by her siblings Joan (deceased), Barb, Susan, Jim, Rhonda and many extended family and friends.
Our family is in deep gratitude to The Meadows Long-Term Care Home in Ancaster where she lived starting in June 2022 as the Parkinson’s and Ataxia progressed. The staff’s love, care and compassion was always comforting to witness.
Janice always had an infectious smile and zest for life. She will be remembered with deep love and her spirit will remain a blessing for her family.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
We will always hold a special place in our hearts for Janice. Her smile and her kindness never wavered.
Janice was a true gem! She was extremely talented and had a beautiful heart and soul. We will definitely miss her tremendously.
I didn’t know Janice too well, the odd dinner party, but she had left an impression on me as a very sweet, kind, warm women. She is in my thoughts as I remember her. My condolences to Mike and his family…
I’ll remember Janice, Vanessa’s mum, for the way she made her home such a welcoming place. In the late 90s, her century house was always a hub of activity with friends dropping by, piano students arriving, and something freshly baked on the counter. She always found a moment to connect with us teenagers, and her warmth left a lasting impression.
I fondly remember Janice with her lovely warm smile and friendly nature. When Vanessa was in high school, my daughter Lindsay, and friends Kristen and Sarah were always welcomed at her 16 Sydenham Street home, a beautiful Victorian house now occupied by Quatrefoil restaurant in Dundas. Janice allowed the girls to scrape away decades of wallpaper that covered the walls of Vanessa’s upstairs bedroom – a project that kept the teenage girls busy for a very long time! After Vanessa and her friends went off to university, I would stop into Coles bookstore at University Plaza, where Janice worked in the early 2000s, to reminisce and share updates on how our daughters were faring away from home. Talking about them brought them a little closer when we were missing them dearly. Janice would love that those long friendships have endured and been nourished over many years.
My deepest condolences to all those who knew and loved Janice.
Janice and her family were a fun part of our childhood. While my siblings and I all took piano lessons with Janice, we took turns having our lessons while the others hung out downstairs and played with her kids. We always looked forward to the lessons, recitals, and play times. Janice encouraged us to have fun, but occasionally had to ask us to quiet down or go run around outside if we got too noisy while playing and waiting for our lesson. During our lessons, Janice could always tell if we had practiced (or not) and was full of encouragement, patience, and enthusiasm. She instilled in us a love of creating music and we are grateful that Janice was a part of our childhood.
I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Janice. I worked with her at Chapters in Ancaster and we had a lot of fun together and worked well. We were social outside of work and I was invited into her home as part of the family and had dinner. She was a beautiful human being and I cherish the times we spent together. She is always in my thoughts and will be remembered fondly. My condolences go out to all the family. Karen Rice.
My heart goes out to all of Janice’s family and close friends at this difficult time. I knew Janice as a kind, fun, creative person and a wonderful mother. Her spirit will live on in the memories she created with her children and grandchildren. She has left them too soon.
Many years ago she gave me a tole painted tray she made, and to this day it sits on a table at my front door. I will remember her fondly.

Janice was without doubt one of the kindest, sweetest of women. I was proud to call her cousin. Her smile lit up the world! I will always remember her kindness to my parents as they aged and think of her every time I look at the Chinese dragon she painted for my Dad. The last time I saw her at Joan’s Celebration of Life, she was still smiling and making you feel loved despite everything that she was enduring. All my love to the family – she was an amazing woman!!!
Our deepest sympathy to Janice’s family. Fond memories of great chats we had as neighbors on Sheldon and Grant. Especially Janice’s smile and laugh.
