I was so sad to hear of Gerard’s passing. I first met him when I was a groom for Paul Smith and he moved to the Whelan farm after selling his own, many years ago. We shared the barn with the Gerard and he was always so charming and so funny. We jokingly planned our future wedding picking a date in June. He made me laugh so much and I wish I had seen him in recent years, something I’ll regret now. Rest in peace my friend. You were one of a kind! xo
Gerrard old pal. I’ll see you again on the other side.
He was such a likeable guy. And a level of intelligence rarely found. Just after l went on my own, Gerrard was stabled beside me, working for Tom McCann. Every day at noon we would adjourn to Tom’s horse trailer and burn a big fat one.
Save me a seat pal. I’ll be along
Jake

Gerard was a wonderful , kind, smart and caring person. He always asked about those close to you and their well being.
Gerard stayed closely connected to the Island and often knew more about Island happenings than those of us who live here.
Gerard valued family above all and was immensely proud of his large loving family.
We will miss him. God bless.

So saddened to read of this news this morning. Wishing sincerest condolences to Pep and Jimmy and the entire extended family. “G String” was the man, a genuine man, who treated me like one of his own even when I was a know-it-all, wannabe horseman kid. I can remember it like it was yesterday, walking through his little barn at Jimmy’s and him introducing me to his favourite horse of my time: “Pete, this is Alissas Crown, perhaps you’ve heard of him?!?!”. Here’s hoping the two of them are reunited and prepping for their next race together featuring that patented three-wide swoop around the field on their ways to victory, all while Rosie curses the two of them under his breath from the sidelines! Rest in peace, G.
Please accept our deepest condolences on Gerard’s passing….. another terrible shock for all of you. I am very much aware of how incredibly close you all are…and you will miss those daily chats with your beautiful brother. You will carry him now in your hearts , as you do Arlene, until you will all be together again. A special soul….and how fortunate he was to have such an incredible family. Praying for you all.

Thinking of you at this sad time.
So sorry to hear of Gerard’s passing. Much love and condolences to the family.
Well Gerard we certainly had memories together going back decades to the barn at Flamboro Downs. Like the time the yearling colt threw himself right on the trunk of my car and your response ‘You shouldn’t have parked there!’ Or when I took a horse out onto the track to diagnose an issue and totally lost control with the horse galloping full speed. I was able to steer him off the track and we went full tilt into your barn wall. Your response: ‘Well where’s he lame?’ Quite the sense of humor. RIP Gerard.
My sympathy to all the family, so sorry to hear. Roy talked about you all, I felt I knew you. Roy passed away Nov. 20, 2022. Looking forward to seeing some of you at a memorial service.

Walter, Pauline, Pasty, James and Family,
So sorry to hear of the sudden death of your beautiful brother, Gerard. I knew Gerard when I met my dearest friend, Arlene when we were 13 years old. He was a great brother to her and to all of you. I know how close you all were and will feel his absence. I can only imagine how heartbroken you must feel. When you think of him try to remember the happy times and his sense of humor. Keep him close in your hearts.
