It is with deep sadness we must announce the death of Marlene Elizabeth Cameron, in the evening on June 25th. Marlene died peacefully in her sleep at the Hamilton General Hospital. She was predeceased by Norman, her devoted husband of 64 years. She was a loving and caring mother to sons Stephen (Michelle), Kenneth (Jennifer) and Norman (Karen) and her grandchildren Andrew, Jane, Nicholas, Elizabeth, and Gwendolyn. She is deeply missed by her brother Barry Tait (Ariane), and was predeceased by her sisters-in-law Ruth Wade (Maurice), Jean Booth (Fred) and Barbara Walker (Ted). She also leaves many cherished nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed by her lifelong friend Phyllis Campbell. Born in Hamilton on September 7, 1937 she was the daughter of Archibald and Margaret Tait. Marlene was a homemaker up until she returned to school in the 1980s and graduated from Mohawk College class of 1985. She worked as an insurance underwriter and was made a Fellow of the Insurance Institute of Canada in 1992. Marlene’s great loves were family, church, theatre, and music. She volunteered at the Hamilton Presbytery Resource Centre, and was a member of a women’s book club (the Her-etics). Marlene was an active member of Binkley and St. Paul’s United Churches, and was a member of UCW at both Churches. She sang with her husband in the St. Paul’s choir, and their “summer church” in Sharbot Lake. She met everyone with a mind set of respect and gratitude; her gentleness, love and humour will not be forgotten. She spent her life in the service of her family, her friends, and her church. Take now your well-deserved rest, and be reunited with your dearly loved Norm. A private service will be held. Gerry & I are so very sorry for your loss. Your Mom & Dad were such beautiful people – kind, gentle & generous. We admired them both. Gerry & I would usually meet them once a year at St. Paul’s Christmas bazaar & we would hear the news about you & your families. They will be greatly missed, but we consider ourselves blessed to have known them even slightly.
I met your mother back on the day she was hired at RSA. I was the Property Specialist then and we had set up a schedule of training . After many years and many successes with her schooling and getting her FIIC. We were very proud of her and so should all of you. Not an easy task as a young person to get the degree let alone as a more mature student. Through her I met your dad Norm at the St Paul’s Breakfast club. I miss them both. Very good people. When I was let go from RSA your mom was the last person that I saw as we left on the elevator together.
We’re so sorry for the loss of your dear Mom. She was always so kind and patient. I won’t forget her smile. I met her a few times at the Driving Park, where she kept active with Thai Chi.
Marlene was our Elder from Binkley.
We met Marlene at St. Paul’s Marlene’s and immediately felt her warmth and loved her smile. She was a wonderful woman and our prayers are with her family during this time.
We were saddened to learn of Marlene’s recent death.
I remember all the good times our mom and dad had at our home with Mrs Tait around the piano.

We first met Marlene through the Hamilton Presbytery of the United Church and then were honoured to have her and Norm become involved with St. Paul’s, Dundas. Marlene was a wonderful, warm, and giving lady and she will be so missed by us and many others at St. Paul’s.
