February 14, 1936 – July 4, 2015
Peacefully passed away at home on July, 4th 2015 at the age of 79. Ernie will be terribly missed by Joan, his beloved wife and best friend for 56 years. Ernie will also be missed by several nieces and nephews and many close friends and neighbours on Paling Ave. He was very active and involved in the Studebaker Drivers Club, Vice president and president of the Ontario Chapter SDC as well as the founder and president of the Hamilton Chapter. Ernie was a man of much knowledge and a variety of skills and talents. He enjoyed the building of a classic show truck and was employed by the Wentworth County Board of Education for 21 years. Friends will be received by the family, on Thursday afternoon and evening from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Cattel, Eaton & Chambers Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas, where the Celebration of Ernie’s Life will take place on Friday at 11 a.m. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Lung Association or the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated by the family.

Joan,
Saying goodbye to a loved one is one of the hardest things we have to do in life. Hold tight to your memories of happier times for comfort, lean on your friends for strength and always remember how much you are cared about.

Joanie,
We haven’t known each other long, but in these few years the two of you have given me so much joy and laughter! I will miss all the stories Ernie told, with such inspiration and detail, the amount of knowledge that man had amazed me! I will never forget our fun filled “porch sit’s”. What an honour to be able to call him my friend! RIP Ernie!
Dear Joan:
We are so sorry to hear of the passing of Ernie. Although we haven’t seen one another for a few years we have often thought of you & Ernie and our Studebaker Days. Ernie always had a story to tell and has brought a lot of joy to a lot of people over the years. Please know that our heart and thoughts are with you at this sad time. Unfortunately we cannot attend the funeral but in spirit we will be there. Take care of yourself and treasure all the good times you had

Dear Nanny ‘Oanie,
We were grieved to learn of the loss of your ‘Ernster’. What a pair you two made. What a beautiful and playful and rich life you shared together. I’m sorry your half has parted. I pray for comfort and strength for you in the coming days.
We will always remember our life on Chestnut Avenue with you and your welcoming porch for our children and family. We never felt like we could wear out a welcome, and you became adopted grandparents for our precious littles, the two of you. I have Ernie’s smile etched in my heart and mind, and the gentle bear he was. We remember his suspenders and how proud he was of his hard work in the yard, and all the things he tried to impart to us about this, that, and the other. And I grieve that I didn’t get my last call in. I had thought about him all day Canada Day because I remember all of your Canada Flags. Ernie was a special man to us- warm, cheerful, grandfatherly. We loved him, and we’ll miss him.
Know you are loved well, and prayed for sincerely, Joanie. I wish we could be with you this week, but we are thinking of you. I will reach out soon to connect with you.
All our Love,
Emily, Peter, Tovah, Ethan, and Matteo XOXO
