To the Picone and Santi families. I was saddened to see that John had passed away. What a polished and caring person. In the mid 70s I used to walk to Mac every day and pass in front of the Westdale store near the Theatre. He always had a kind word of encouragement and a smile for everyone that passed by. A good man.
Condolences from all of the Giovinazzo family
My love, prayers and deepest condolences to Gail, John Jr. ,Greg and their families, on the loss of their father John. He was a real Gentleman, always had a kind word for everyone.. Love Mary-Ann Aldighieri
I offer condolences to the family on your loss, particularly to Gail, on behalf of Sr. Rachel, SSMI, who was a teacher of Gail’s, and whom she affectionately referred to as the “Polish Princess”. Before COVID hit, they reconnected in correspondence and by phone. Sr. Rachel is currently in a nursing home, and would not have access to offer condolences, herself, but I am certain she would be offering her prayers, when we let her know of your loss. May your father’s memory be eternal! And may Our Lady be your comfort at this trying time.
Dear Lorena, Leah, and Adriana,
May the many loving memories of your Grandfather John help you through this difficult time.
Heartfelt condolences to all the family.

My heartfelt condolences to all of John’s family. My heart is sad to have lost a dear friend but happy to have known and loved John a true gentleman. In light of John’s recent passing I found myself reminiscent of my past interactions with the wonderful man that he was. This experience took me back to my university days in London in which I would come in weekly to Hamilton for a half day and before returning to school would stop by the Picone’s west Hamilton grocery store. What always struck me about John was how he was always focused on giving of himself and on many levels. I would walk into the store where there was food care package prepared for me to take back to Greg but there was also every week a little package of something for me to take as well; despite my attempts to express how unnecessary it was to give me something.
But most impressive was the genuine interest and focus with questions to me about my school experience and how I was doing. These exchanges were always driven by a strong, genuine sense of positive, happy energy that John brought to the conversation. One couldn’t help but feel uplifted in his presence and as I would be saying my goodbyes until the next week, John would reach back and present me with an apple and say, “here’s something for the road”. Well John, here’s one for the road for you as you leave this world; you are loved and held up as an inspiration and teacher as to how one can live a satisfying life personally while and through always giving to others. I will carry the deepest respect and appreciation for John along the rest of my journey.
My Dear Dear Friend Gail my prayers are with you and your whole Picone Family. Your father was an amazing family man. Both your parents were wonderful to me all those years at Mount Marry Academy for highschool. So happy we were able to reconnect for our 50 th reunion. So sorry.
I’m so sorry to learn of the passing of Mr. John Picone. My siblings and I grew up in Dundas across the street from John and Alma who were wonderful neighbours and great role models. John was a true gentleman and a cheery soul who could always make me smile. Condolences to John Jr., Gail, and Greg.
In one’s life you meet many people.
John Picone was a true gentleman. He stood out .
I remember shopping for groceries when I was in my youth at the Westdale store with my parents and he took the time to speak with me and ask me what I was up to and offering encouraging words – probably trying to distract me from touching everything.
Much later in my life I had the privilege to work for him and his wife Alma and wonderful daughter Gail at their home in Dundas on a number of occasions .
I was always made to feel special. I felt privileged and always gave my best .
John was as kind and gentle and caring as the day is long.
Knowing him was a blessing.
Remembering him will provide me with peace that I will carry for the rest of my life .
John was special.
Very special.
To live a full life to the age of 103 was a true testament to the love and care that Gail showed him day in and day out . Who wouldn’t want to live forever.
My sincere condolences to his entire family.
Rest in peace John
Sincerest condolences to John Jr., Gail, Greg and Picone families.
John will be greatly missed by everyone who was fortunate to encounter this wonderful gentleman. We will always remember his warm smile and gentle, caring personality. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time. Requiem Aeternam.
