Phillips, Patricia Irene “Pat” (nee Vollick)

August 31, 1940 – December 17, 2018

Phillips, Patricia Irene “Pat” (nee Vollick) – Passed away peacefully at home with her loving daughter Lori-Ann by her side.  Predeceased by her loving husband and soul mate, Thomas Allan Phillips “Tom” (2010).  Pat will be remembered always by her grandchildren Lily and Thomazyna “Zya”; godchildren Joyce and Jamie and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  A special thank you to her sister-in-law, Carol who was at Pat’s bedside on many occasions.  Thank you also to Dr. West, Dr. Raza and to the many staff at the Juravinski Hospital for their care and compassion.  Friends will be received by the family on Thursday evening from 6-9 at the Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas.  A Service for Pat will take place at the Church of the Ascension, 64 Forest Ave., Hamilton on Friday morning at 11:00 a.m.  Interment Grove Cemetery.  Expressions of sympathy to the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.

Mann, Sheila Marie

July 11, 1936 – December 12, 2018

Mann, Sheila Marie – It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Sheila at St. Peter’s Residence on Wednesday, December 12th, 2018.  Daughter of the late Colin and Merne Mann.  Devoted sister of the late Lorene (Willis) Thompson and Barry (Faye) Mann.  Caring and generous Aunt of several nieces and nephews, and many great nieces and nephews.  Sheila loved the family farm, gardening and she was devoted to giving to others, especially those in need.  She was a teacher for over 40 years, had her pilot’s licence and taught and travelled around the world.  She was always eager to share her life lessons and loved to tell jokes.  Sheila had many dear friends who were a big part of her life.  A big thanks to Josie and also the staff at St. Peter’s Nursing Home.  Donations can be made to the Good Shepherd Centre.  A private celebration of life will be held in the New Year.

Robb, Ruth Annie (née Hawley)

January 26, 1931 – December 10, 2018

Robb, Ruth Annie (née Hawley) – at her home on Monday, December 10, 2018, in her 88th year. Beloved wife of the late Allan (1993), and dear mother of Allan (Barbara) of Kitchener, Bruce of Dundas, the late Holly Robb and Heather of Dundas. Loving grandmother to David Jones (Amanda), Laura Jones (Khalid) and Clairelise Jones, and great grandmother to Ruth Holly Jones. Ruth is survived by her sister Kay Kinlock and was predeceased by her brothers Richard, Roy, William and Douglas and her sister Marion. Friends will be received by the family on Saturday morning from 10 until the time of Ruth’s Service at 11 o’clock at the Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas, followed by a reception at the Wally Cattel Reception Centre next door.  Cremation to follow. Expressions of sympathy to the Salvation Army would be appreciated.

Kloetstra, Elisabeth (nee Vander Baan)

April 18, 1941 – December 8, 2018  

In her 78th year, Elisabeth unexpectedly, yet peacefully, slipped away and entered into her Saviour’s glorious presence. There she was surely re-united with her husband John Kloetstra (2012) , her beloved. Predeceased by 3 children, John (1966), Brenda (1968), and Daniel (1999). She will be deeply missed by her surviving children,  Jo-Ann (Fred) Bouwmeester,  Richard (Sheryll)  Kloetstra and Sue (Jim) Holubeshen. She was a proud and loving Beppe to her grandchildren, Byron (2006) Candice, Andrew, Kyle, Ryan, Trent, Karen and Marshall. Her six great-grandchildren Maddison, Avery, Eleanor, Isabella, Toby and Lilly brought her immense joy. Also left to grieve are Liz’s four surviving siblings, Mary (Jerry) Verrips, John (Anita) Vander Baan, Joyce Vander Baan and Pete (Maria) Vander Baan.  Predeceased by Tina (Tom)  Visser, Stuart Vander Baan, and Pearl Vander Baan. Always ready with a cheerful smile, Liz will be greatly missed by her dear friends and church family. Visitation will be held at Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas,  on Wednesday, December 12 from 2-4 pm, and 7-9 pm.  The funeral service will take place at CALVARY CHRISTIAN REFORMED CHURCH, 265  Middletown Road on Thursday, December 13, at 11:00 am with interment to follow.

Flatt, Ian Russell Taylor

May 1, 1945 – December 7, 2018

Passed away peacefully at the Juravinski Hospital on December 7, 2018 in his 74th year. Beloved husband of Evelyn Flatt (nee Gairdiner) for over 42 years. Loving father of Carolyn (Mark) Eddy and Allison (Craig) Foulser. Caring grandfather to Dorothy, Declan, Darcy, Rachel, and Faith. Brother to Marjory (Jim) McPherson, Susan Flatt, and Mary Flatt (Steve). Ian was a long-time member of West Flamboro Presbyterian Church and an honorary life associate of Rockton Agricultural Society. Friends and family are invited to Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main St, Dundas, on Wednesday December 12 from 2-4p.m. and 7-9p.m.. A Memorial Service will be held at West Flamboro Presbyterian Church, 262 Middletown Rd, Dundas, on Friday December 14 at 11:00a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to West Flamboro Presbyterian Church or Juravinski Hospital Foundation.

Mohoruk, Margaret (nee Sinka)

April 14, 1924 – November 24, 2018

Mohoruk, Margaret, long time resident of Dundas, Ontario, died on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Villa. She was 94. She was born Margaret Sinka on April 14, 1924 in Hamilton, Ontario. She had a successful career as an administrator at St. Joseph’s Hospital and the picture above was taken upon her retirement in 1991. Margaret married Nicholas John Mohoruk and together they had three sons, Gregory Mark, Nicholas John and Terrance Gary. Gregory and his wife Joette Cantafio, Nicholas and his wife Lynda Waine, and Terrance were all at Margaret’s bedside when she passed peacefully in her sleep at the Villa. Margaret is survived by her sons and her grandchildren, Nicholas Ryan Mohoruk, Loren Mohoruk, Aleksandar Sebestyen Mohoruk and Conrad Theodore Mohoruk, and her great-granddaughter Isabel Grace Goulding. She was predeceased by her husband, Nick in 1997. As per Margaret’s wishes there will be no visitation nor memorial services. Margaret will be interred at the St. Augustine’s Cemetery in Dundas, Ontario.  Memorial donations may be made in Margaret’s name to the St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation.

Shearer, Marion (nee Wadeson)

April 26, 1944 – November 24, 2018

Marion Shearer, aged 74, died peacefully at Sunnybrook Palliative Care Unit on November 24, 2018 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her only sister Margaret McFadyen and a host of loving friends.. It was her wish to be cremated and to have her ashes united with those of her husband James,  and interred in the Shearer family plot in Dundas.  A memorial service will be planned and the date and place announced later.

Newell, Bernard “Bernie”

July 17, 1925 – November 9, 2018

Newell, Bernard “Bernie” – After a short illness on Friday, November 9th in his 94th year, Bernie passed away at the Hamilton General Hospital. Predeceased by his wife Barbara (2015). Dear father of Janet and her husband Stephen Jewell. Bernie is survived by his sister Margaret and was a special Dad to Barbara, Sheila, relatives and friends, all in England.  Predeceased by brothers Fred and Roy.  Bernie was proud to have served in the British 8th Army. He arrived in Dundas in 1953 to start a new life. He was the co-owner of Mechanical Contracting Trades Ltd. for over twenty-five years. There were many pleasures following retirement. He and Barb took trips throughout the world, including the first flight on the Concorde from Toronto to England. He was a lifetime member at Dundas Golf and Country Club. He enjoyed the family cottage in Parry Sound and the quiet time of fishing and, socializing at the S.I.M gym in Dundas. He exchanged kindnesses to the residents at the Villa Estates, not forgetting the numerous newspapers.  Many thanks to the second floor staff at Amica in Dundas as well as the Doctors and nurses at the General Hospital for their care and compassion. Special thanks to Dr. Kaitlynn for her thoughtfulness.  In keeping with Bernie’s wishes, family will attend a private burial.  If so desired, donations can be made to the Hamilton General Hospital, Mission Services of Hamilton or the charity of your choice.

 

Giacinti, James

Surrounded by the love of his family, Jim Giacinti passed away peacefully in his 67th year on November 9, 2018, after a long and hard fought battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Beloved husband of Janelle. Wonderful father to Jillian, Jeralee (Jack), and Jolene (Lachlan), and grandfather to Lucas and Hannah. Brother to Mary Jo, Chris, Jonathan (predeceased), Elizabeth, Lois, and Jerry. Uncle and cousin to many. Jim loved his furry friends, especially his buddy “Cammie”. A quiet man, Jim bravely faced the challenges that life dealt him with courage, and a smile that would light up the room. We would like to thank the many people who have supported him in his journey over the years, including Dr. W. Oczkowski, the staff of Wentworth Lodge, and Cindy. Your help will never be forgotten. As would be Jim’s wishes, no funeral service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Hamilton Burlington SPCA would be appreciated.

Northcott, Michael

April 28, 1963 – November 6, 2018

Left the stage far too soon, surrounded by family, at the Juravinski Hospital on November 6th at age 55 after a short but ferocious fight with pancreatic cancer. Beloved husband of Shelly. Devoted father to Bailey and Wilson. Remembered by siblings Sue, Bob and Peter; his entire band family; and all those he was a friend and mentor to. A good and righteous man who was full of witty comments and constant enthusiasm for the talents of those around him.

Friends and family are invited for visitation at Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main St, Dundas, on Friday, November 16 from 2-4pm & 7-9pm and on Saturday, November 17 from 2-4pm & 7-9pm.

“The Mike Northcott After Party” will be held on Sunday, November 18 from 12pm until 6pm at the Boston Manor in Burlington. We welcome all who loved him to gather on this special day to share music, stories, and friendship in Mike’s honour.
