Art has concluded his decade long struggle with Alzheimer Disease, in his home at the Ridgeview Long Term Care, on June 25th, 2021. Art is survived by his wife of 64 years, Carolyn (nee McCartney) and by his son Kevin (Paulette) James of Rockton, as well as daughters Janice (Paul) Mitchell of Uniondale Ontario, Joanne (Barry) Dawson of Fort Qu’Appelle Saskatchewan and Kristine (George) Leach of Mount Hope Ontario. Also survived by grandchildren Vicky and Kirk James; Effie (Mathew) Koshy, Russ, Keith and Natalie (Mauro) Mitchell; Justin and Ryan (Makayla) Dawson, Amanda (Shad) Gulbranson and Ashlee (Kyle) Gurr; Branden and Tyler (Cortney) Leach plus 8 great-grandchildren. Art was the youngest and last surviving child of Vera and Gordon James. He was predeceased by brothers Bert (Dorothy), Carl “Rusty” James and sisters Marion (Ken) Hood and Dorothy (Alec) Mackenzie. He is survived by his in-laws Myrna James, Ken (Chris) McCartney and Karen (Mike) Landers, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Born on the family farm, during a blizzard, Art lived most of his adult life in the village of Rockton. As a general contractor, Art worked on hundreds of new construction and renovation projects, eventually partnering with his son to form KevArt Construction. Art and Carolyn were very active in their community, as members of Rockton United Church and filling many positions in support of the Rockton’s World Fair which included Art serving a term as President of the fair board. Art had a 40 year career as a volunteer firefighter which saw Art rise to the rank of Fire Chief at the Rockton Fire Station. A real life “Red Green”, Art was known for his innovative repair jobs and inventions, most of which invariably included duct tape. He leaves behind a large collection of miscellaneous items and half finished projects, many of which are of unknown origin, value or purpose. His outgoing personality along with his spontaneous approach to life plus genuine interest in other people, allowed Art to make friends easily and permanently. He could always be relied on for a warm greeting and helping hand. A testimony to his character is this; “Art James is a man who gave more than he took and leaves this world a better place because he was here.” The family wish to thank the staff at Ridgeview LTC Home, especially Rev. Loving sister of Frances, Josie (Carman) Crawford, Kathleen (Paul) Penney, Jimmy (Sue) and Maureen (Steve) Bendo. Survived by sisters-in-law Annie Rooney and Betty Rooney. Predeceased by sisters Patricia (Milt) Spendlove and Eileen (Bill) Clarkson as well as brothers John and Mickey. Isa is survived by several nieces and nephews. Peacefully at Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice in Hamilton Ontario, on Sunday June 6th, in her 97th year. Much loved wife of 63 years, to the late Orv Reynolds (2013). Predeceased by their infant daughter Rebecca Jane in 1958. Loving mother to Nancy (Mike) Brown of Simcoe and Paul (Julie) Reynolds of St. Catharines and their children Kyle and Christopher. After retiring from a 30+ year teaching career in Dundas, Eileen attended McMaster University in Hamilton where she earned her Honors Degree in Art History. Over the years Eileen and Orv’s love of travel took them to over 15 countries, meeting many life long friends along the way. Eileen volunteered as a Docent at The Art Gallery in Hamilton and thru their travels saw many of the paintings she had studied at McMaster. The family would like to express their thanks to Eileen’s amazing home caregivers, PSW’s Barbara, Lynsey and Sherry along with her evening caregivers Virginia and Kim. We are also thankful to the team of nurses that cared for Eileen at Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice (Evelyn, Joanne, Sharon and Whitney) Due to COVID restrictions, a private family funeral will take place at Grove Cemetery in Dundas. The family of Beryl May Livesey, of Dundas, announce with sadness her peaceful passing at Wentworth Lodge on May 27, 2021. Predeceased by her loving husband, Bill, she leaves behind her three daughters, Kim Sardella (Don), Cathy Hems (Steve), and Doreen Hall (Geoff), her six grandchildren and her four great grandchildren. Many thanks to the caring staff of Wentworth Lodge, who looked after our Mom so well. A private family service will be held at a later date.
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of John (Norton) Spinney on Monday, May 17, 2021 at home in Dundas. John was born on December 25, 1959 in Hamilton, Ontario. John is now an angel who has gained his wings and joins his mother, Shirley, in heaven. He will forever be missed and never be forgotten by his children Jessica (Adam) and Dylan (Virginia and Bean) and his beautiful grandaughter Aria Mae, whom he adored with all his heart. He is their guardian angel now and will always be with them. He is survived by his father Eldon Spinney, and several siblings, Dolly, Mike, Tim, Eldie, Michele, several nieces and a nephew. John was loved by all who knew him. His smile ,sense of humor and kindness touched many lives. He was happiest when spending time with his kids and granddaughter, riding his Harley and cheering on the Leafs and the Jays. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
Passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Villa, Dundas, on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at the age of 95. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Remo. Dearly loved and missed by her children Francesca and Carmine (Delia), grandson Anthony, and nieces and nephews throughout Italy and in Lockport, NY.
Mafalda was born and raised in Castiglione a Casauria, Pescara, Abruzzo, Italy. She emigrated to her new home in Hamilton in 1959. Mafalda was very devoted to her family and to her Catholic faith, devoutly praying the rosary in Italian.
Special thank you to Dr. Boyd, nurses, and PSWs in Orchid Garden for their excellent care of Mafalda. And our profound gratitude to her beloved caregiver, Lindsey, whose love, kindness, and devotion greatly enhanced the last six years of Mafalda’s life.
Visitation will be on Sunday, May 30, from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas. As per Covid regulations, everyone must sign up for visitation on Mafalda’s obituary on the Funeral Home website. A private Mass will be held at St. Margaret Mary on Monday, May 31, at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Donations to St. Joseph’s Villa Foundation would be appreciated.
Mary Victoria Hannah (nee Allardyce) passed away peacefully in the Town of Parry Sound on 23 May 2021. Formerly of the Town of Dundas she was in her 91st year. Predeceased by her husband, Gordon Edwin Hannah she is survived by her children, Ida (nee Hannah) and Allan Doubrough of Nobel, and David Hannah and Debbie Bateman of Troy, Ontario, her grandchildren Joseph and Joelle, Daniel, and Kevin, and her great-grandchildren Ivy and Hazel. Fondly remembered by her sister-in-law Marie Allardyce of Dundas, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or a charity of your choice.
Passed away on Friday, May 21, 2021 at the age of 72. Son of the Late George E. Pawley and Dorothy Pawley, brother of the Late Michael Pawley, companion and best friend of Debbie Pawley. Loving uncle of Jason Pawley and his children and Lisa (Steve Bradwell) and their children. He will be sadly missed by Larry and Lucy Scott, his best friends Scott Ure (Adam) and Martin Wilkie. It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Lewis (Eddie) Edward Watson on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at St. Joseph’s Hospital. He was the beloved husband of 42 years to Lynn Watson (Meilko). The much loved father to Mark, Thomas and Leanne (Adam). Cherished Papa to Hudson and Hayden. Predeceased by his father John Watson. Devoted son to Ruth Watson. Sorrowfully missed by his best friend and brother Phil Watson, sister-in-law Diana and their three children, John, James and Jasmine. Eddie will be lovingly remembered by sister-in-law Judy and husband Jim Gallagher and sister-in-law Karen Meilko. He will always remain in the hearts of many nieces, nephews, great-nephews and cousins. After 60 years of living in Dundas it’s hard to find someone who doesn’t have a great memory of him. Eddie always jumped at the opportunity for community involvement. He coached baseball, soccer, basketball and even participated in competitive dance competitions with the other parents. Some of Eddie’s passions included organizing and playing in “The HAFA Big One” golf tournament, High Rollers/HAFA softball and winning O.F.S.S.A. basketball for Parkside High School in 1975. He worked at M&A Candy, Chubb Securities and Bell Canada. His main passion was to bring back life to the Hamilton Air Force Club where he held presidency from 2016 to present. The Hamilton Air Force Club was ultimately a place for him and his friends, who meant so much to him, to socialize.
