November 27, 1949 – July 3, 2022

With deep sadness we announce the passing of Joan Kretz peacefully, surrounded by her loving family. Devoted wife/partner to Larry Kretz for 46 years. Beloved mother to Colin (Lisa), Brian (Melissa), and Emily (Chris). Proud and doting grandmother to Alice, Caroline, Hannah, Kodi, Austin, Derek, and Grace. Sister-in-law to Jan, Paul (Judy), and Catherine (Donn). Proud aunt to Vanessa, Ian, and Taylor (Chris). Joan was born in Hamilton to Albert and Barbara Rathbone (predeceased) and raised her family in Dundas, Ontario. Joan had a yen for adventure whether winter camping, wilderness canoe tripping, sailing Lake Ontario; cruising the Intercoastal Waterway, sailing the Bahamas, exploring Europe or enjoying the RV lifestyle. She loved being on the water and basking in the sun on the deck of the sailboat with a good book, a cold glass of wine or just sharing time with friends. Her favourite moments however, were cooking meals and preparing celebrations surrounded by her family. She loved listening to music and dancing in the kitchen. She appreciated the quiet moments in life, when the pace slowed down and conversation came easily. Joan had a gentle, easy-going nature that attracted a wide variety of friends who will miss her soft approach to life and her innate ability to connect with and care for people. Joan will be remembered for a kind and comforting heart that touched everyone who met her. She is still remembered fondly by many as “Momma Kretz”. The family is grateful to all her caregivers at the Juravinski Cancer Center especially Dr. Meyers and all the nurses in the Chemo Suite. We also want to thank the staff at the Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice for a caring and graceful experience. Friends will be received by the family on Thursday, July 7, in the afternoon and evening from 2-4 and 6-8 at Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Augustine’s Church, 58 Sydenham Street, Dundas on Friday at 10:00 a.m. Interment St. Augustine’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers consider donating to the Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice.
