October 10, 1934 – July 31, 2020
With great sadness we announce the passing of Peter on 31 July, 2020 due to complications from dementia. Left to mourn are his wife Michele (nee Fleming), sisters Mary (Jake) Warkentin, Martha (Syd) Traikowsky, and brother John (Marilyn). Also all of Michele’s sisters and brothers and their spouses who loved Peter dearly, many nieces and nephews and especially nephew Ryan VanSickle who with his Uncle Peter enjoyed the odd G&T on the balcony. Predeceased by first wife Jean (Miller), daughter Janice, brother Jacob (Susan), sister Aganetha Andrews (John). Peter had a great life doing what he loved. A career military man (1958 – 1990) serving first with the Provost Corp. One day after crawling on a tank he decided he would rather do that so remustered to the Armour Corp. serving with various regiments in Canada, Germany and UN tours in Cyprus and the Middle East. Peter retired as a member of the 8th Canadian Hussars. Peter made many great friends in the military which he maintained to this day. Peter was an active man who played golf and curled for many years and was an avid hunter and fisherman. His go to in the fall every year was hunting with the Indian River Hunt Club gang. Peter’s best time was our move to “The Pennerosa” a 100 acre piece of heaven we moved to on our posting to Trenton in 1988. He thrived there planting a big garden, making the best wine for miles around, cutting wood, grass and ploughing snow. Making the sweet, sticky taste of spring in maple syrup was another one of Peter’s talents. He loved going across the road in the morning to Trillium Ridge Sugar Bush and cooking sap. Another passion at this time was raising champion beagles. Trips to Hare and Fox trials were plenty and more great friendships were forged. Peter’s years lived on Maple Sugar Road were his best times and so many friends there still. Peter’s other great passion was being a Mason. He was Master of Deseronto Lodge and District Deputy Grand Master of Prince Edward County 1996-97. Peter went through Scottish and York Rite rituals to become a Master Mason. Once that was accomplished the next step was to become a Shriner which he did in 1992 and enjoying the friends and fundraising there became club president in 2008 and past Commander Legion of Honour for Rameses 2008. It is hard to sum up the great man Peter was in this small space. He will be missed so much. We send him to the “Great Architecture of the Universe” with much love and hugs. August 18, 1949 – July 23, 2020
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Douglas Bruce Rice after a courageous battle with cancer. He will be deeply missed by his wife Nancy, daughters Alanna (Chris Rowe), Sarah Lindeman, Amanda (Vanni Boetto) and cherished grandsons Julian and Cristian. Doug is predeceased by his parents Lorne and Betty Rice and brother Jeff (Carol). He is survived by his sister Carolyn Komaromi and many nieces and nephews.
Doug worked for CIBC for 35 years largely in Hamilton and Toronto. He retired from his role of Regional Director of Private Banking in 2004 to enjoy time with his family and to pursue his favourite past -time of golf. Doug was happiest outdoors hiking with his family, walking the beach in Florida, kayaking among the mangroves on the Indian River and exploring the world. He has given us many funny stories and ‘Dougisms’ which we hope to share at a memorial next spring when the Covid restrictions are lifted and we can truly celebrate together as Doug would have wanted. He was outgoing, boisterous, and full of life and he will be missed and remembered every day. As per Doug’s wishes cremation has taken place. December 2, 1965 – July 19, 2020
aka Birdie lover of life and laughter died Sunday, July 19 in her 55th year. Self proclaimed favourite child of Gladys and Roy. Deeming herself the best sibling, she was a crazy silly sister to Michael, Patricia, Tracie and Shawn. The family did however concur she was the most amazing, caring Aunt to Dan, Chris, Justice and Sibylle. A fun loving humorous woman, she worked for the CRA making taxes fun, no easy accomplishment. Her favourite pastime was eating and hanging out with her wide circle of friends and making them laugh mostly in wildly inappropriate ways (just ask them). Although a good eater, she was not a good cook, often using the home smoke detector as her oven timer. She loved coca-cola but it didn’t love her as she was diabetic. She also loved bingo but only when she won (an embarrassment for Patricia who went with her). Her middle finger was the finger she liked the most as she used it often (a sense of pride for Michael who taught and encouraged her in this behaviour). Her only regret was not becoming a stand up comic because she said she likes to sit too much. No viewing or funeral services will be held because Colleen believed in laughing not crying. Although a celebration of Colleen’s life will be held at a later date, after her “cry baby” sister Tracie stops crying. Colleen touched many throughout her memorable life and will be greatly missed by all.

April 8, 1944 – June 26, 2020
Al was a born educator who through his profession with the HWDSB strove to ignite a love for learning in students. Upon retirement he pursued his hobbies of golf, fishing, curling, skiing and riding his motorcycle. Al easily engaged anyone he met in conversation. He was a Past Master of the Lodge of Strict Observance. He loved and was loved by his wife Brenda. Al’s pride and joy were his children Rick (Jackie) and Donna (Buck). Memory maker and adored Grandpa of his grandchildren Reilly, Jake, Trevor, Jessica, Shaelyn, Ainslie and Connor. He will be mourned by his sister Lee (Michael) Creal, brother Norm (Emma) Kunc, brother-in-law Jim (Mary) Grandy and his nephews and nieces. Brother-in-law of Wanda and Peter Olsen. Al’s circle of friends reached far and wide and his presence will be missed. A heartfelt thank you to the team of healthcare workers who guided and cared for Al with compassion and always gave us hope. To our friends and neighbours who supported us – when days were dark you brought us into the light. A private celebration of Al’s well lived life will be held. If you choose, a donation can be made in Al’s memory to City Kidz or your favourite charity.

After a courageous battle with cancer, Bill, of Greensville, passed away on Canada Day with his family by his side. Cremation has taken place. Respecting Bill’s wishes, there will be no service. Many thanks to Bill’s healthcare team.

Passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital on June 27, 2020 in his 74th year. Cremation has taken place. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital for their excellent care.
