Bert passed away, with his family at his side, after a long, beautiful life on June 3rd, 2024 at the age of 85. Dear husband of Marian. Loving father to Mike and Bernette, and adored Opa of Caitlin, Jade, Jackson and Maia. Brother of Ed (Arlette), Ineke (Ed), and Hildelies. Predeceased by Laurens (Auk), Aneke (Jan), Jan (Clara), Cor (Wilma), Peter (Gineke), Wim (Anky) and Coos. Bert was a favourite uncle of many nephews and nieces.
Bert was a proud engineer, businessman and outdoor enthusiast. All who knew him will remember him as an avid sailor, and as a man who was always “puttering about”, finding ways to improve things around his properties with his engineering mind. His children and grandchildren will forever be able to picture him on his riding lawn mower, or arranging his sails and knots on his boats to be just so.
A service will be held for family and friends at Turner Funeral Home, 53 Main St., Dundas, on Sunday, June 9th at
Gloria Jeannette Higgins passed away peacefully, with her family at her side, at Juravinski Hospital Hamilton, Ontario on May 20, 2024 after a two year battle with cancer.
Gloria is survived by her mother Karen Mielko, brother Troy VanWesterop and 4 ½ year old twin boys Emmerson and Greyson Begin. She will be profoundly missed by Aunts, Uncles, cousins, in-laws and many dear friends.
Gloria’s beauty and strength can be witnessed through the life she lived. In her career as a server she attracted many close friends and had a smile and joy about her. She was an inspiration to all as she owned and operated her restaurant The Hub and provided endless hours of good food and long lasting relationships with her staff who became lifelong friends.
Her two greatest joys came later in life with the birth of her twin boys who were the light of her life.
Family was everything to Gloria as were the many get togethers, trips and especially Thanksgiving where she could love and be loved by her family unconditionally. Forty-five years of Thanksgiving fun and games, treasure hunts, scavenger hunts, music and dancing at the outdoor pub were her heaven on earth.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all the doctors, nurses and health care workers who gave so much of their time and expertise to support Gloria throughout her illness, especially the Juravinski Cancer Center and Palliative Care teams.
A private celebration of life will be held for family and friends.
Le 19 mai, à l’âge de 85 ans, Jean-Paul a tiré sa révérence. Il sera à tout jamais regretté par son épouse Renée (Lapointe) ainsi que ses enfants Frédérick (Sylvia), Myriam (Bruno) et Mérick et ses petits-enfants, Daphné, Henri, Delphine et Sara.
Son départ est aussi une grande perte pour sa soeur Nicole et ses trois nièces, Pascale, Françoise et Laurence de Lyon en France, sa ville d’origine.
Une vie bien remplie, c’est sûr. Sa présence dans un groupe ne passait jamais inaperçue comme peuvent en témoigner ses nombreux amis en France, en Floride, au Québec, à Hamilton et dans la région.
Comme il le souhaitait, sa vie a été célébrée avant son départ avec son épouse, ses enfants et quelques amis intimes.
Remerciements très sincères à Pauline, François et Louise qui nous ont accompagnés fidèlement au cours des derniers mois.
JP, as he was affectionately known by his close friends, lived life to the fullest. Worldwide travelling, cruising, rv-ing which made him feel like the king of the road and snowbirding in Florida with the one he called “ma queen” made for a life full of adventures, good times and great memories.
Friends at Queen 75 will remember him for his cheerful personality and his forever engaging conversations.
As per his wishes, an intimate celebration of his life took place with his loved ones before his passing.
Most sincere thanks to the staffs of the different units where he was so well cared for at St Joseph Hospital and especially to Diana during his last three days.
Cremation has already taken place and a private graveside ceremony will be held at a later date. Those who wish to honor his memory by making a donation can do so to a charity of their choice.
It is with much sadness that we announce Mike’s peaceful passing on May 18, 2024 surrounded by his family, his pride and joy.

Mike graduated in Economics and Business from McMaster University, attained his Chartered Accountant designation and retired as Vice-President, Finance, of Jervis B. Webb Co. of Canada. Mike loved sports (playing, coaching and cheering) and was an avid fan of the Habs and Ti-Cats. Heartfelt thanks to the staff of Balsam Trail, St. Joseph’s Villa for their compassionate care.
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Robert Barr announce his passing peacefully at the Meadows Long Term Care in Ancaster on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at the age of 82.
Robert was born in Scotland and emigrated to Canada in 1953 and grew up in Dundas. He was an employee of the Dundas Star and then went on to have his own business of Barr Painting and Decorating for many years
He will be sadly missed by his wife of nearly 60 years, Barbara Barr (nee Young).
He was the loving father of Jill (Mike) and Bryan (Madeline) and cherished Papa of Kevin, Rachel, Robert and Claire.
He was predeceased by his parents, John and Helen Barr, his brothers, Bill and John and his sisters Margaret and Rose.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
We would like to extend our thanks to The Meadows Long Term Care, St. Peters Hospital, St. Joseph’s Hospital and the Juravinski Hospital and their staff for their kindness and support in Robert’s care.

Passing away peacefully on May 8, 2024, in his 78th year, Bill is reunited with his parents William and Barbara.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon (Truax), and his daughters Cheryl (Michael) Gemmell, and Karen (Dat Pham) and by his grandchildren, Meredith, Henry, and Gracie, who he asked after every day.
There will be an empty chair at the card table as he is missed by brothers Mike (Pat), Phil (Sandra) and Doug (Penny).
Spending his early years in Ancaster and Dundas, he raised his family in east Hamilton before heading to Markstay, ON. Retiring to Dunnville and returning to Hamilton to be with Sharon when her care needs changed.
Bill was a life-long “do-it-yourselfer” He will be remembered for his gift with numbers as a bookkeeper, property manager, and tavern owner.
We know Bill has found a place to cast his line while he waits for the fish to bite.
