Boothroyd, Alan Denham B.Sc., M.B.A., P. Eng. – On May 26, 2017, surrounded by his loving family, Alan passed away peacefully. Beloved husband of sixty years to Judith, loving father of Susan Korporaal (Bill), Richard Boothroyd (Diane), and Valerie Powell (Jeff), proud Grandad of Robert, Angela, Samantha, Daniel, Alex, Amanda, Hannah, and Charlie. Alan was born on November 4, 1933 in Huddersfield, Yorkshire, England. He and Judith emigrated to Canada in 1965. They were avid world travellers. From 1969 to 1997 Alan was employed by Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. and in 1991-1995 went to United Nations in Vienna to work at the International Atomic Energy Agency. Alan’s artistic talents included set design for the Waterdown Village Theatre, painting, and photography. He and Judith shared a love for music, opera, theatre, and history. Alan’s family will welcome family and friends at Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas from 12:00 – 2:00 pm on June 1st, 2017. A light lunch and refreshments will be served. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Juravinski Hospital or a charity of your choice. Alan’s family is extremely grateful for the compassionate care provided by the health care team at Juravinski hospital.

Downey, Jain Isobella (nee Ross) – Passed away at home surrounded by love on May 19, 2017. Beloved wife of Peter. Loving mother to Helen Margaret (Michael Banks) and Joyce Constance. Mary passed away peacefully at Wentworth Lodge in Dundas on May 9, 2017, at the age of 101. Mary is predeceased by: her husband, Robert (Bob); her parents, Joseph and Tekla (Kathleen) Stechyshyn, her brother Walter; her sisters, Jenny and Stella (McCosky). She is survived by her sons, Malcolm (Lin) and Graeme (Joan), her grandchildren, Derek (Amy), Heather, and Iain (Jacinthe), and her great-grandson, Elliot.
Mary was born in Fort William, Ontario, in 1915. Her father had emigrated from Jereirzany, Galicia, Poland, and her mother from the Ukraine – Austria. Her family moved soon after to Hamilton, Ontario, where she, and her siblings, were raised. Mary graduated from Delta High School before taking post-secondary studies in office administration. She started working for Canadian Sterling Electric Company, and eventually became secretary-treasurer. When she married Bob, she became the accountant and office/business manager and co-owner for McMaster Pottery in Dundas, for close to 40 years, until its closure in 1988.
Over her long life, Mary was a devout and supportive wife, mother and grandmother. She was the driving force of her immediate family, and along with her sisters-in-law, maintained a strong extended McMaster family. She enjoyed being active, being a member of the Dundas Travel Club and Garden Club for many years. She always strove to continually increase her knowledge in many areas, and was never lost for words when asked for an opinion. Mary was a tireless worker both at the pottery, in her garden, at her cottage, and especially, in the kitchen, where she was known for her cooking.
Mary became afflicted with dementia in her mid 80s. She remained in her own home until her late 90s, and then moved to Wentworth Lodge, where she received excellent care and comfort over the past 3 1/2 years.
A remembrance/interment service will be held at a later date.

Taylor, Linda Margaret – It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Linda Margaret McArthur Taylor, daughter of late Margaret Hanes McArthur and Lloyd McArthur. In her 67th year, surrounded by her two children, Linda died peacefully in hospital following a stroke. She will be sorely missed by her husband James B. (Jim) Taylor, her children Dallas and Delana (Pete), and her grandchildren Callaway, Blake, Austin, Colton, Harley and Alex. As well as the vast amount of family, friends and critters that had the pleasure of crossing paths and meeting her throughout the years starting at the 4 way stop to Taylor Farms. It will be a tremendous loss for the Flamborough community. In her final days, she received her final prayers of being with her son and daughter and their children in the same room, enjoying each other’s company. With a hand picked bunch of flowers from your garden, your favourite pair of cowboy boots on, the family would like to invite you in coming and sharing your memories on Thursday afternoon and evening from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas, where Linda’s Service will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. In Linda’s memory, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family. A luncheon will be held at Rock Chapel United Church, Friday afternoon following the interment.

Harmer, James David – November 30, 1929 – April 29, 2017
“Safe in the Arms of Jesus”…Until we meet again.
Jim was predeceased by his parents Clayton and Lillian (nee Davies) Harmer, his infant sons David and Andrew, and grandson Richard Folkerts.
Missing Jim are his wife Pat (nee Thompson) of 63 years; his children Kathy and John Flanagan, Patti and Mark Folkerts, Tim Harmer and Diane; and his sister Shirley Carson and her family. “Pop”/“Great-Pop” experienced tremendous joy and love in his relationships with his grandchildren Kelly and Adam Van Dinther, James Flanagan, Robert and Jennifer Downs, Matt and Erin Downs, Jessica and Black Boughen, Stephanie Folkerts, Elisabeth Harmer, Katie Harmer, Aiden Wang; and his great-grandchildren Lily, Maggie, Henk, Charlie, Deegan, and Everley. Also remembered by extended family members of the Moon and Thompson families.
Jim was an extremely devoted member of the Waterdown Masonic Lodge for over 60 years and a long-term member of Knox Presbyterian Church in Dundas. He spent his career in the life insurance business with Toronto Mutual, North American Life and Manulife and served his clients with compassion. In all aspects of his life, Jim served others quietly with great respect and love, exemplifying his strong Christian faith.
Jim and Pat had many golfing trips to Myrtle Beach over the years. At home, they played golf at Oak Gables in Ancaster. In both places they made many friends through their golfing.
The Harmer family lived at the corner of York Road and Old Guelph Road, known as Pleasant View, for over 160 years. Jim loved this land and nature, and spent much time outside enjoying both over his full 87 years. To Jim, his home and family were number one. The family spent much time together by Jim’s side, in this place, as he endured his final days in the battle with cancer.
The family is forever grateful for the many, many people who have provided support over the past four months. All are cherished in our hearts. In particular we give special thanks to Margaret, Penny, Mui, Carri and Sandy who each gave their unique and caring support during the final days.
Friends and family are invited to Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main St. Dundas, on Monday May 1st from 7-9pm. Masonic Service to follow. A Memorial service will be held on Tuesday May 2nd at 11am at Knox Presbyterian Church, 23 Melville St. Dundas. Donations to Presbyterian World and Development would be appreciated.
