February 9, 1929 – July 3, 2021
Passed away peacefully at 92 years, leaving his beloved wife, Barbara (Vail) of 67 years. Sadly missed by daughters, Norma (Dennis Button), Nancy (Dave Turple), Sharon (Stephen Harding), grandchildren; Jeff, Dan, Meg, Greg, Lindsey, Lauren, Charlotte, Michael, and Thomas and great-grandchildren; Aria, Keaton, Kendrick, and Nora. Fondly remembered by sisters-in law, Deena Ford and Sheila Huxley as well as many extended family and friends. Norm attended Prince of Wales Public School, Delta High School, and Parks Business School. He trained with the 8th Field Regiment RCA from 1944-1951. At 16 years old, he went to work in northern Ontario, where he bought a small island on Lake Temagami. He built a family cottage and many treasured memories. He worked at Colgate, National Cash Register, opened a dairy bar on King St. E, Hamilton (Stoney Creek Dairy) in the 60’s, Prudential Insurance, Vernon Directories, and finally retiring from his “favourite” job at the Dundas LCBO at 70 years old. Norm had known Dundas as a young boy visiting his grandparents on Hatt St. He and Barbara (married in 1954) bought a ravine lot in Highland Hills in 1956 and built their dream house where they lived for over 30 years. He loved this community and generously devoted time, most proudly as co-founder of Kids for Kaga, past President of Rotary Club (1979-80) a Paul Harris Fellow and served for 6 years on the Dundas Hydro Commission. Norm was a life long Ti-Cat supporter, dog lover (especially his 5 wire haired terriers), and wonderful story teller. He had a colourful sense of humour and some memorable jokes that will likely live on. He was so grateful for his loving wife, Barb, who was a supportive, guiding partner in life and the center of his universe. Family meant everything. As he often said, “I am the luckiest guy in the world.” A private celebration of Norm’s well lived life will be held by his immediate family. If wished, memorial donations may be made to the Hamilton Airforce Club in Dundas, ON.

Norm was such a sweetie! I loved chatting with him at the metro , always a joke ( or two ) ! His love of family was evident , he was so proud of them and spoke of them often. Just a lovely human and I’m glad I made his acquaintance. My sympathy to all of his family , you have a treasure trove of memories to bring you comfort, there will be no end of “normisms “ I’m sure ! He was quite a character! ?

To Mrs. Ford {Barb}….Norma {Dennis}….Nancy {Dave}….Sharon {Stephen}
I had the pleasure of knowing Norm since Public School days and growing up in Highland Hills.He was always lots of fun and a pleasure to be with. As years went by i would continue to see Norm when the Traffic Jam played or when we used to have our monthly poker games or the many functions attended by being a life long Dundas resident.
I hope the family will enjoy all the happy times Norm created !

My Uncle Norm was the best! My favorite childhood memories are at his house with Auntie Barb and all our family there. He always made me laugh and even let me share all his dogs. He made me feel like a daughter. He celebrated my return from summer camp with a surprise record winning 6 foot+ submarine sandwich. He drove me and my friend Sandy to John Island Camp in Sudbury. He came to Massachusetts for my wedding, to meet my son Brent and other memorable visits. He welcomed everyone to his pool and we all came and brought friends too! They all were amazed by his unforgettable hospitality and sense of humor. He made us all feel special! He is so loved and will forever be in my heart and memories of Dundas and home. I love you and miss you Uncle Norm! Love, April, Gary, Brent, Alexis, Zach, Madison, and Julia
Having known Norm for over 50 years and always feeling more than welcomed in his presence, his passing saddens both of us. We will never forget his smiling face and the never ending volumes of jokes he couldn’t wait to tell whenever we saw him. Just a great guy and we will miss him.
To Barb, Norma (Den), Nancy (Dave), and Sharon (Stephen) and all grandkids and great grandkids,
My sincerest , deepest sympathies at the loss of your dad. He was a “larger than life” guy, always a smile and a wisecrack to keep us all on our toes and guessing. A gentleman’s gentleman and considerate to a fault. Always made sure I walked away with a little extra cash in my hand when I tuned the family piano and a smart businessman giving my first wife (Carol) her first job right out of high school. He was much loved and will be missed by all .. thoughts with you. Dave and Helen Potter.
I didn’t really feel like Norm has gone, his presence is such a strong one still.
I’ve known Norm since I was four, when he began to date my sister Barbara he always told me he had to win me over first because I was the easy one, then Dad might let him come around. I remember him bringing me some wonderful colourful large books, RobinHood, Robinson Crusoe and others and he became my Idol. He could do no wrong! Also, I thought he was there as my boyfriend! Through my life with all its ups and downs he has always been there for me and my daughter April. So many funny happy times and sad ones too, he was always there to keep me strong . I’m beginning now to miss you like crazy Norm it’s finally sinking in. You’re amazing daughters , and husbands are doing all the heavy listing now and caring for Barb. You’ll be so missed by your loving wife Barbara, and me her little sister, will always love you Norm.
Love always, Sheila Huxley
