Passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Villa on Friday, January 16, 2026, at the age of 81. He was the beloved husband of the late Nancy (née Thomas), a loving father to Tony (Jean Kerfoot) and Dana, and a cherished grandfather to Matt Kerfoot. Fred was a devoted son of the late Walter and Ruth Westermann, a dear brother to Claus and Judy Westermann, and a proud uncle to Christopher Westermann and Jessica, Richard, Jacob and Anna Munter and Jamie Thomas.
Fred dedicated over 25 years of service to Dofasco (ArcelorMittal) and faced early retirement when he received the diagnosis of Superficial Siderosis of the Brain.
Fred was an avid classic car enthusiast who pursued his passion for many years, forming lasting friendships within the local community.
As Fred’s illness progressed, he experienced profound hearing loss, which made communication increasingly difficult. Even so, he continued to share his joy in small yet meaningful ways. Gentle by nature, Fred had a special fondness for babies and animals, whose presence brought him comfort, connection, and moments of quiet understanding beyond words.
Friends and family are invited to Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main St. Dundas, On January 23rd from 10a.m. to 11a.m. for a visitation. A Funeral Service will immediately follow in the chapel. Private burial to take place at White Chapel Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you donate to the SPCA of Hamilton/Burlington https://www.hbspca.com/get-involved/give.
