Passed away peacefully at Wentworth Lodge in Dundas on December 26th, 2025, just a few days shy of her 96th birthday.
Loving mother to Barbara Irving, Patricia Jackson (Navdeep Pooni) and Andrew Jackson (Julie Alati-it). Affectionately known as Nana or Nani by her four grandsons Oakley, Delsen, Cayden and Reid. Dear sister of late William Anderson (late Lyndsay) and aunt to Michael (Donna) and Douglas (Lynn) and their families in Atlanta, Georgia.
Mary was raised in Westdale where she attended high school and McMaster University before training as a Registered Nurse at the Hamilton General Hospital – class of ‘54B. Mary’s long and successful nursing career began in the maternity ward at the Henderson Hospital and ended with retiring from Wentworth Lodge, as Director of Nursing in 1990.
Retirement found Mary spending several winters in Ocala Florida, making many friends and playing LOTS of golf. Her later years and summers were spent at her happy place in Muskoka, with her pets and communing with nature. Mary was a strong independent woman who loved all furry things & beautiful sunsets.
“Andy’s” faith life began as a young girl attending Ontario Pioneer Girls Camp at the end of the second world war. Her affiliation with Intervarsity Christian Fellowship and Pioneer Camp was a lifelong association. Mary’s faith sustained her in developing a warm community with lasting friendships, in every chapter of her life.
The family would like to thank the many people who supported Mom, especially in her last days. The love, devotion, kindness and generosity of the nursing staff will forever be remembered.
Friends and family are invited to Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main St. Dundas on Friday January 9th from 7pm – 9pm or Saturday January 10th from 2-3pm for a visitation. A short Funeral Service will be held directly after the Saturday visitation, followed by a reception.
For those who wish, donations in memory of Mary to the Hamilton/Burlington SPCA or Intervarsity Ontario Pioneer Girls Camp would be sincerely appreciated.

Dear Patty and Nav,
So sorry for your loss. Your mom was a classy lady always so cheerful. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
I worked at Wentworth Lodge in the 70’s, Mary was our Charge Nurse.
Always fair, always kind and always expected the best care for her patients. Mary was always interested in her staff’s lives, so much so, that she graciously let me work the same shifts as my then, new husband, ensuring we had adequate time together. I appreciated her. I have never forgotten her. May she rest in easy peace.
My condolences to Mary’s family.
Dear Patti, Nav, & Delsen….
Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. Memories are precious and may those of your mother/grandmother comfort you at this time and also in the days to come.
Dear Patty, Nav and Delsen,
I am so sorry for your loss. Mary sounds like she was a wonderful woman. I hope your memories bring you comfort at this sad time.
