1965 – 2025
Bruce Simpson died as the sun was setting on a beautiful August day in the loving embrace of his family. Bruce was gentle, patient, funny, empathetic, and kind to everyone he met. He was a loving husband and best friend to Christine and a devoted dad to Hannah and Lili.
He will be missed by his father James, his brother David (Dee), his sister Anne (Paul), his brother-in-law Andrew (Iwona), his nieces and nephew Abbie and Georgia, Madeline and Luca, and Maya and Ben, his dear friend Tim and many more much-loved friends. He was predeceased by his mother Jacqueline.
Bruce was a dedicated teacher of English to adult newcomers for many years and a kindergarten teacher at Bellmoore School for many more. He was a rock star, a songwriter, an artist, an advocate and an author who cared deeply about the world and his community.
To honour Bruce’s memory, we invite you to walk, run or wheel in your community’s Terry Fox Run, an event that was dear to Bruce. Gentle, kind, talented, giving a beautiful soul. Heaven’s gain is our loss.
Smart, witty, fun, funny, kind, creative, talented, thoughtful are all adjectives I would use to describe Bruce.
He was a good friend and I’m
sure all the traits noted above made him a great teacher as well. His loss so soon is a punch to the gut. My deepest condolences to Christine and the family.
Very sorry for your – and our – loss. I knew Bruce through his older brother Dave, and through his early musical efforts of the mid-80s.
We played those “carted” selections – and later cassette – on CFMU-FM. Hopefully, someone there archived them.
Please accept our sincerest condolences.
Bruce was a lovely and kind human being. I am certain that he has left an idelible impression in his young students. We need more elementary school teachers like him that can serve as a model and promote change.
Always searching for a creative outlet I was amazed to hear about his latest project. Bruce was writing another children’s book now focused on the scientific endeavour. His main character was a female scientist who studied fruit flies. I was fortunate to spend several hours teaching him the ins and out of fruit fly biology and genetics. He was curious with a keen intellect and focused on giving young readers a different perspectve. He will be remembered. I send my love to all in the Simpson clan. Ana Campos
Bruce was the kindergarten teacher for four of our grandchildren. His passion for teaching shone through in all of his interactions with the students. He will be missed. Our sincere condolences to all of his family and friends.
He was an angel, and I’m glad to have met him.
Some of my most joyful times were when I was singing and spending time with Bruce and Pat as The Dundees.
We had such fun!
Bruce was an amazing, bright and kind soul!
Sending love and heartfelt sympathy to his family and friends.
I had the pleasure to teach with Bruce at Woodward School. I have registered for the Terry Fox Run in Grimsby in his honour.
My condolences to Bruce’s family on the loss of such a kind and empathetic man. I first met Bruce at Woodward Avenue school, where i was blown away by his warm and caring approach to children. He actually welcomed sharing his classroom with a pre-school program, set up under what was then the City Best Start program. Instead of worrying about the sharing of equipment, he saw the value to children of a seamless program. And that I realized was quintessential Bruce. He has touched many children’s lives in a positive way and will be missed.
We are so sorry for your loss. Mr Simpson made such a difference in our son’s life, and we will always be grateful for the kindness and care they gave Sending heartfelt condolences. Mr Simpson will be remembered with love and gratitude by all of us. What an amazing teacher.
Bruce was in my grade one class at George R Allen School in Westdale. An excellent young student. I was so proud when his mom called me personally to tell me he was accepted to study English in university. He was an outanding young child and as I read others comments a wonderful young man.I am thrilled he became a teacher.
