August 14, 1941-March 27, 2023
Elizabeth Turner, loving wife of Robert Dunn, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2023 in Brantford, Ontario. She was born August 14, 1941 in Hamilton, Ontario to Kenneth and Constance Turner. Elizabeth leaves behind her beloved husband and high school sweetheart Robert, as well as three children, Kimberley, Wylie (Monika) and Jared Rogers, and two stepchildren, Adam (Heather) and Tom (Melissa) Dunn.
Elizabeth was the oldest of four children and started her career as a nurse in Hamilton in the 1950s. She moved to the Woodstock, New Brunswick area in the 1960s to raise a young family on a 700-acre farm on Belle Lake, and returned to Dundas, Ontario in the early 1980s. Throughout this time she continued as a nurse, before retiring to summers on Beaver Lake near Kearney, Ontario and winters in Sebring, Florida.
Elizabeth was a selfless partner, parent and friend, and instilled in her children a passion for everything from the environment to sports and literature. In her years in the Maritimes, she demonstrated a keen understanding of how to raise both Irish Wolfhounds and Appalachian horses. As her friends during those years will remember, she was also a very good gardener, canner and maker of preserves, helping her family eat well during many long, cold winters. Later in life, Elizabeth was a small business owner alongside nursing and a regular volunteer at McMaster Hospital and the Salvation Army. Elizabeth continued to enjoy tennis, golf, skiing, windsurfing, kayaking and bridge, and loved to travel. She read voraciously and enjoyed “happy hour” on the dock at Beaver Lake with family and friends, reminiscing about her travels with Robert through North America, Iceland, Europe and Asia.
Elizabeth will be dearly missed by many, including her surviving siblings John (Nancy) Turner and Mary (Mike) Murray. She is predeceased by her youngest brother David (Trina). Loving grandchildren include Alexandra Rogers, Alia and Luca Rogers, Caitlyn Rogers, Connor and Lyndsy Dunn. A celebration of life with drinks and snacks will take place on April 22, from 2-4 p.m. at the Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas, ON.
Our friendship spanned several decades.
She loved, was loved and will be missed.
I am sorry for your loss. My condolences to your family. May she rest in peace 🙏🏼
Kim, I am so sorry for your loss. Memories can be a great comfort Take care.
This loss will be felt by so many. She touched the lives of her patients, her friends, and her family. We share your sorrow and will always carry wonderful memories of times both happy and sad. We will miss you, dear friend.
I am so very sorry to learn of Elizabeth’s passing. While she was older than I , we both lived in Manor Park and she and I dated two brothers ( Robert and Donald) who were our first high school crushes. She was intelligent, vivacious and fun and dearly loved Robert. One summer we all enjoyed playing friendly poker at Elizabeth’s house . I was delighted to see them both here in Florida in Port St Lucie just before COVID hit. They both looked great, were
happy and we had fun reminiscing about our youth.
“ Red” ( from Ashbury days ) and Liz and Don and Bonnie are still memorialized in what was fresh cement in the garage if our Manor Park house. We send Robert many hugs and condolences as well as to all of their family .
We shall be thinking of you on April 22 with fondness and memories. Bonnie (Volk ) Licis and family .
We are thinking of you during this sad time. Elizabeth was a wonderful woman, and she will be missed by everyone in her circle. Much love to you all, and may you find peace in your memories and comfort in visiting familiar places. Kimberley Iwamoto and family
Our deepest sympathy to the family of Elizabeth and Robert. This is truly tragic. We were very fortunate to visit with them both this past fall at the cottage and will treasure the time we shared.
Kim, so sorry for your family’s loss.
I was devastated to hear that my dearest cousin had passed. As little kids we spent good times and many memories at Grandma and Grandpa’s farm in Whitevale, teenagers at Beaver Lake, retirees at Elizabeth’s cottage and in Florida.
Bill and I send our deepest sympathy to Robert, Kim, Wylie, Jared and all the family. We will miss my “kissin cousin” more than I can express.
So thankful for the time I spent with she and Rob last summer. We spent many visits together here on my couch as she loved to pop-in any given time of the day. I have so missed her these past years. My thoughts for comfort to the entire family. Rob I think of you so often. May you enjoy your new surroundings. Hugs to you.
Kim, I am so sorry for your loss. It is clear your mother left a powerful impact on many and led a rich life. My condolences.
Kim, I am very sorry for your loss and wish to express my condolences to your family as this difficult time.
I am saddened to hear of your loss. Sending my deepest sympathies to you and your family during this difficult time.
I met Elizabeth when her family moved to Dundas from Ottawa in the ‘50s. She was a couple of years older than me and was thus in a position to share with me of some of the important information often acquired by a young teenager from an “older woman”. We were neighbours and these conversations took place during occasionally shared long walks to high school. I appreciated Elizabeth’s openness, good humour and intelligence and vivacity. I knew about her love for “Red” and was happy to learn years later that they had found their way back to each other.
I knew Elizabeth for such a short time but she was for me a breath of fresh air and a person of consequence. I am so sorry for loss experienced by her family and friends. Elizabeth lives now in my heart as well as in memory.
