It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the family of Orest Kopachiwsky, in his 76th year, announce his passing on May 13, 2022. Orest was born on July 9th, 1946 in Ingolstadt, Bavaria to loving parents Paul and Oksana Kopachiwsky as they fled their beloved homeland Ukraine, for a better life in Canada. They settled and prospered in Hamilton where Orest welcomed a baby sister, Dana. He attended school in Hamilton, culminating at McMaster University with a BA in Psychology. He pursued a career in the photographic industry but the highlight of his adult life was marrying Bev, and together they raised two children, Rick and Alanna. Orest was thrilled to welcome Nic Drake, his son-in-law to the family fold and was over the moon to hold his first granddaughter, Laya in his arms. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle who was known for his big heart, friendly sociable nature, and his love for cycling. He cared deeply about his family, his roots, and the plight of Ukraine. He will be remembered for his kindness, his honesty, and his open heart. Vichnaya Pamyat. A celebration of life will be held at Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main St., Dundas, Ontario on Thursday, May 19th, 2022 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with Panachyda service to be held in the evening. In lieu of flowers, donations made to a Ukrainian humanitarian aid agency of your choice would be sincerely appreciated.

I knew Orest during the 70’s while he was still living on Melrose Avenue and was studying photography at Sheridan College. I still have one of those photos on my wall. He would often ride his pink-purple Scapine racing bike up Hamilton Mountain to visit and swim in my parent’s pool. Sending my deepest condolences to his sister Dana, whose wedding I attended, and to the rest of his family for the loss of a very special man.
My sincerest condolences on Orest’s passing. I will always remember his kind, warm welcomes whenever we met at family gatherings growing up in Hamilton and more recently whenever fate would have our paths cross. He was a wonderful, warm, kind person and will be missed. Вічная пам’ять.
Orest was a wonderful human being and a wonderful friend. I was fortunate to have known him.
