Connor, Charles Peter passed away on Monday May 26, 2014 in his 78th year. He will be forever remembered and loved by his wife of 50 plus years and best friend, Fernande. He will remain always in the hearts of his children Mijanou, Michele (Arthur), Michael (Andrea) and Steve (Sherry) and deeply loved papa to Mary, Holly, Charlie and Owen. He spent 30 years as a dedicated teacher in Hamilton. He was an active member and supporter of the Teachers Credit Union. He was a gardener at heart and many admired the fruits of his phenomenal green thumbs. A heartfelt thank you to the amazing professionals on the 3rd floor, Oncology at Juravinski Hospital for their kindness and compassion which made a difficult journey that much easier. Friends will be received by the family on Thursday May 29, 2014, 2-4 and 6-9 at Cattel, Eaton & Chambers Funeral Home, Dundas, ON. Funeral Mass will take place at St. Ann’s Church, Ancaster, ON, on Friday May 30, 2014 at 1:00 p.m.

Charlie and I worked together at Glendale Secondary School. We were both Department Heads and I recall the many leadership roles Charlie took on. He was instrumental in electing a new president in O.S.S.T.F. when our union had been dominated for years by a small group who lacked foresight. He organized great Octoberfest luncheons for all the staff at Glendale. Charlie also played a large role in the reform of our cabinet meetings that now welcomed all teachers to come and put forth their ideas on how we could improve the adminstration of the school and the education of students. Charlie was a man who was not afraid to voice his opinion regardless of the conseqences. Charlie thank you for your contrbution to education in Hamilton.

Charlie was a great friend. We met through Teachers Credit Union where he had been a member since his teaching career began. With his strong desire to always contribute, he became an active member of the Marketing Committee and subsequently assisted with the writing of the quarterly newsletter. He insisted that a staff member be highlighted on each edition and got to know every one by name. When he retired from this endeavour, he became the Plant Manager; visiting each branch to water the plants and having some chats with the staff. He would bring his grandchildren with him during the summer with home baked cookies in hand (with the help of his lovely wife Fern). He resigned his position as Plant Manager in 2008, but he would tell me he did miss it as he is such a people person. I will miss our monthly lunch date with our shrimp linguine and lots of talk. He was a terrific listener and always asked ‘how is the family?’. By listening to him, you could tell that Charlie loved and adored Fern and the family.

The last time we met for our usual monthly luncheon get together with Charlie, was April 24. At that time, we set May 27 as the date of our next gathering. It was not meant to be, because we are not the masters of our fate. Rather, we are like pawns in this unpredictable chesslike game of life. Charlie was a great guy, and we enjoyed our social interactions with him, immensely. We will,certainly, miss his larger than life presence. To honour his memory, let us rally around the family, and give credence to the saying, “He is gone, but not forgotten”. To the family we say” may God give you the strength as you move forward, bearing in mind that,’ Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning'”.

I am very sorry to hear of Charlie’s passing. In the graduating class of ’72 I was in Charlie’s marketing class. If it were’t for Charlie, I would never have graduated. I especially remember having a graduation party at your home on Graham Avenue. In later years, having my own business, I worked on the roof of that home with Charlie installing wood shingles. I recently took a drive to your home on Hwy #6 after reading about your 50th Anniversary in the Spec. I found out from the people at Wally Parr that you had moved. Unfortunately I was not able to find your new address and was unable to connect with you. Charlie was a great mentor and will be always in my thoughts.
Mr. Connor…my grade twelve teacher…Charlie…who became my friend after graduating. A lot of lessons learned at Sir John A. Macdonald. You always treated those entrusted to you with great respect and you gave us “north enders” a lot of confidence. One day you let me imitate you as the teacher in class and you laughed…I now have the ability to imitate you as a real teacher. I still use you moniker “Wally Jay Timofichuck” in some of my test questions. We will always remember. I hope stories like these bring comfort to your family.

My deepest condolences to Fern and your beautiful family who have lost a wonderful man. I first met Charlie at the Teachers Credit Union back in the ’80’s. We worked on many newsletters and annual reports together and he always added a wonderful flair and caring touch. We also worked together on the Marketing Committee that he volunteered for and he generously shared his creativity and expertise, always living and demonstrating strong credit union values. He was a great mentor and became a dear friend, even attending my wedding over twenty years ago to my husband also named Charlie – he then became known as ‘my other Charlie’ which I think he always got a kick out of. And who could forget his legendary home-grown garlic — I can still hear my door bell ringing and there was Charlie with a basketful, so that we could start our own in the garden. Until we meet again my friend.
Mr. Connor was my Grade 12 Marketing teacher. I remember Mr. Connor as probably the best teacher I ever had. He made learning fun and we had a great time in class. He used to sing “Nancy with the Laughing Face” when I walked into class.

I was priviledged to have “Mr. Connor” as my teacher for a few classes in high school. He is one of those special people and teacher who you always remember fondly. Where I am in my career is because of his teaching. Thank you Mr. Connor, you will be missed; you made such a difference to so many.
Charlie was all about what was best for the students. He believed in the strength of staff united in a common cause, thus his involvement with teacher federation and the credit union. One memorable event was working with Charlie to plan the retirement party for Westmount principal Jim Russell just after the secondary teacher strike.

Mike…Our deepest condolences to you and your family. Charlie truly was one on the good ones. I had not seen him for a very long time but I will never forgot his garlic or his enthusiasm.
I will celebrate the life of this extraordinary man through my memories of those early 70s and later occasional visits to the Hamilton area. Charlie joined me in a team of some fifty Hamilton-Halton teachers in a “Values Development” task force and soon became a mentor for us. His expertise was so valuable as we developed curriculum and leadership training. I was so pleased to persuade him and his family to spend a summer in Cape Breton training teachers. His sense of humor blended with his exceptional connection with teachers and students was truly a model for all of us. My later visits with Charlie and Fern proved a highlight of celebrating fond memories of the past and the continual growth and successes of his children. I hope that these positive qualities of his and his family will also sustain me.
I was a marketing student of Mr. Connor’s in the late 70’s. He was a favorite teacher of mine, always greeting his students
with a genuine smile. I always looked forward to his class, which were always fun and interesting. Mr. Connor made a very positive and lasting impression on his students. My deepest condolences to the Connor family.

My condolences. I was thinking of Mr. Connor today and thought I’d try to search him up. I was broken hearted to see he had passed away. He was mine and my brother’s business teacher at Glendale. He called my brother “Cameron” and myself “Lil Cameron”. I got away with a few things because he liked my brother, who was a great student. Mr. Connor was the greatest teacher and one I will never forget. We invited Mr. Connor to my brother’s wedding as a surprise, as he was his favourite teacher. Not surprisingly, Mr. Connor did attend. We will always have great memories of him.
