August 29, 1935 – February 7, 2020
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Colin Parr on February 7, 2020 at age 84. Colin is survived by his wife, eldest son and daughter and their spouses. Colin was a caring and modest man who took pride in his family and was always quick to offer a meal to those who came over, whether they were people or pets. Colin had a talent for math (although he’d never acknowledge it). He also had a life long love of golf, food, and music that kept him occupied long after he retired from Stelco. In his later years, he also became fond of striking up conversations with people whenever he went out for a coffee or a walk. Although many may not have known his name, they may notice his absence. Colin is greatly missed. We hope that, wherever he is, he get’s the rest he deserves and that he feels all the love that we are sending him now and forever. A celebration of Colin’s life will be held on Saturday, February 15th from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main St. Dundas. Passed away peacefully at St. Peter’s Residence at Chedoke on February 5, 2020 in his 99th year. Beloved husband of the late Sophie (nee Koczan). Loving father of Patricia (Ron) Greenwood, Allan (Gwen), and Robert. Caring grandfather to Jennifer, Jim, Dan, Kris, Karla and great-grandfather to Cecily, Katie, Ty, Meg, Sammi, Dray, Austin, Eden, Lauren, Elaina. Norm was born and raised in Hamilton. He joined the RCAF during W.W.II and spent a rather peaceful term stationed in Newfoundland. When he returned to Hamilton, he met beautiful Sophie and fell in love with her light heartedness and enthusiasm. After they were married, he worked at various jobs but eventually retrained for a career as a draftsman, which he always regarded as a well chosen move. He was a man who believed he could build or fix almost anything and proceeded to do so with consistent success. He enjoyed mulling over problems and finding innovative (and inexpensive) solutions. He loved photography and cameras and even had a brief and pleasurable few years making stained glass creations. Norm was known for his dry wit and clever sense of humour. He was also an avid reader – a self described lover of words and information. He spent many hours in his senior years browsing and reading on the internet, sometimes even buying new computers just because they were interesting challenges. He will be missed. Friends and family are invited to Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main St, Dundas, on Saturday, March 7th from 2 – 4p.m. for a Celebration of Life. Interment to take place at a later date. Passed away peacefully at the Hamilton General Hospital on Wednesday, February 5th, 2020 in her 71st year. Loving daughter of Leo and Jean Podetz. Beloved wife of Jim for 53 years. Loving mother to Jeff, Leah, and Jackie (Bill). Caring grandmother to Olivia, Gracie, Gabby, Brenna, and Dora. Sister to Norris (Anne), Donna (Mike), Lori (Russell), Stephen (Laurie), and Lisa (Edsel). She will be sadly missed by her brothers and sisters in-law and many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Brenda’s medical team for all their care and compassion. A Celebration of Brenda’s Life will take place at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #36, 280 King St. W., Dundas, on Sunday, February 16, 2020 from 2 – 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory to a charity of your choice.

Lane, Doris Jeannette (nee McLaren) – Passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at Billings Court Manor, Burlington on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 in her 101st year. Doris spent 71 years married to her beloved husband, the late Dr. Norman Lane (2014), whom she met at Queen’s University. Loving mother to Doug (Ann), Brian, Steve (Carol), Alan (Robin), and Christopher (Cristina). Caring grandmother to Michael, Andrea, Carolyn, Dorian, Alyssa, Chloe, Hudson, Amanda, and Ryan. Predeceased by her sister Helen Hillen. She took great joy in spending summers at the cottage with family and friends, cooking gourmet meals. A private family service has taken place.

Passed away peacefully at the Hamilton General Hospital in his 77th year, Beloved husband of Nancy (nee Palmer) of whom he shared his life with for over 39 years. Loving father to Cindy Negus and Danny Terris. Caring grandfather to Jason, Tyler, Stephen and great-grandfather to Ava, Isla, and Ava. Brother to Marilyn (Bill), Paul (Diane), John (Linda), Pamela (Rob), and Leah (Todd). Brother-in-law to Angie, Russ and Rose. Roger will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or service. Donation in memory can be made to Canadian Cancer Society, Heart & Stroke Foundation, or the Brain Aneurysm Foundation of Canada.

Loving wife of Paul Wilson (deceased, 2014) and a devoted mother to her five children; Shelley (Donny) Crawford, Leslie, Ann and John (Marcia) Wilson and Susan. Louetta especially loved her grandchildren; Michael Crawford, Oliver Morgen and Kirk and Trent Wilson. Louetta cherished her three nephews: Doug (Beth) Powell, Guy (Karen) Powell and Lloyd ( Liz) Powell of the United States.Louetta was born and raised in Hamilton. In 1949 she met her future husband who boarded 2 doors down from her family after the war. They married a year later and after several years they built their family dream home in Grand Vista Gardens in Dundas. Louetta raised her children there and we all knew it was dinner time up on the hill when mom blew the 5:30 whistle calling us all home. Mom worked for years at the Dundas public library and loved her position there. She was an avid reader and a world traveller. Mom and dad threw amazing fresh flown-in lobster parties at their home. She was also a 30-year Florida snowbird enjoying many years at their home. Our mother loved all cats. She made the best strawberry rhubarb pies and looked forward to her Sunday evening Manhattan. Louetta loved Frank Sinatra and was thrilled to have seen him twice at the CNE. She always joked that her final wish was to be buried next to him. Our mother was above all, a loving anchor of all things good. After a lifetime of travel she has finally set sail on her final voyage. A very special thank-you must go to all the incredibly devoted staff at Amica At Dundas who took care of our mother in her final years. Our family will be forever grateful for all their dedication and care.

After slowing down over the last few years to a glacial pace, ‘Ardy’ finally came to a stop late in the evening on January 21. Arden had suffered a mild heart attack over the holidays and was recovering from bypass surgery, but the underlying conditions were too much to overcome and the recovery and rehab that we were gearing up for was not to be. For his 2 weeks in the hospital, he had the loving services of his ‘family’ nursing staff, Danielle (& Trevor, Harper & Miley) and Melanie (Nick), his boisterous young adult roughneck grandsons (Tom, Laughlin & Gabriel), and the rest of us; June, Dana (Shari), Darren (Pam) and Steve (Vicki, Malcolm & Claire)
He shared 61 years, and was lovingly cared for in the end by June Patricia, his first and only love. He really did think he was with the best woman in the world! His 4 sons, had over the years, been a source of adventure (grief!) and given him cause for plenty of pride, although you had to hear about third hand. It was noticed in his response to a nurse when asked how many sons, it was a firm 4, with memories of #1 son Dave who had passed 17 years ago. Arden continued through all the family tree research done by his late sister Betty Smith of London, ON and was always thoughtful of his older brother Marvin of Delta, BC.
Arden had a gentle spirit (thanks Chris), and an “oh Grampa!” sense of humour. No joke was too old! “How many o’s in Fortinos”? Arden really wasn’t a party guy, having had his first beer at the age of 30 (his father, Baptist Minister Carroll and his mother Grace, both of Manitoulin Island, might have had something to do with that), but did manage to crack a small smile when he heard of # 5 grandchild (Gabriel) coming home staggering with shoes in hand Christmas eve. He truly enjoyed spending time in his workshop building bird feeders, wooden toys, etc, and keepsake boxes for each grandchildren.
Years ago, we had the ultimate family project of building from the Canadian Shield up (on Lake Wahwashkesh) a boat access cottage: he and June, had the whole thing designed, planned and supplies ordered and then the workforce, family and friends got to it. (He was one of Three Amigos in the north end of Wahwashkesh with friends Don and Frank.) This was after years of camping and canoeing adventures crisscrossing the country.
He was a long term Binkley United Church member, part of the great group of long-term friends & Square Dancers, and sang with The Albertones and The Periscopes (because they’re always looking up!). He taught us how to fix washing machines, lawnmowers and how to wire a live electrical panel. He funded all this by working 35 years as an Electrician and then Foreman in the Cold Mill at Stelco: which he was glad to do for his family.

Friends will be received by the family on Monday afternoon and evening 2-4 and 6-8 at the Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas. Funeral at Binkley United Church, Tuesday morning at 11 o’clock, with reception to follow. Cremation has taken place.

January 15, 2020, John peacefully passed away, lovingly surrounded by family & close friends with his favourite songs quietly playing at Juravinski Hospital after being diagnosed with Plasma Cell Leukemia Dec 24, 2019.
Devoted and much loved husband of Dorothea (nee Alarie) for 68 yrs. Will be forever in the hearts of his loving children, son Garth (Pauline), daughters Pamela Summers, Deborah (late Neil). Going to be truly missed by Tim and Andy whom they affectionately call “Johnny Boy” a father figure to them for 25 yrs.
Sadly missed by his brother Norman (Liz), sister Theresa Wilkinson (Chuck), sister in laws Judy (late Frank), Cherry, Bonnie, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by father John Henry, mothers Veronica, Phyllis, sister Catherine, in laws Frank and Violet Alarie.
John was the proud owner of Francis Service Centre for 40 yrs. His honesty with customers earned him the title of “The Mayor of Burlington Street”.
Spending quality time with his family and friends meant the world to him. Having family day Sunday and meeting longtime “cronies” daily at Williams Cafe brought him the utmost fulfillment and joy.
His true passion was his 1931 Model A Ford which he cherished long rides with family while daughter, Pam driving and proudly displaying it for people to admire at Rockin the Waterfront.
A heartfelt thank you to Tony & Theresa Dudhnath, Callaghan and Gattozzi families, Ken, Tony G, Keswick, neighbour Mike, Pro Resp staff, especially Larry and the Hamilton Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis Support Group. To each and everyone of his friends, know that you touched his heart in a special way.

HENRY, Henrietta Margaret (nee Shaefer) – Retta passed away peacefully at Juravinski Hospital on January 17, 2020, in her 97th year. She was a loving mother to Chris, Frank (Coline), Brian (Naomi), Gina (Pat–predeceased), Joan (Stephen), Catherine–predeceased (Peter), and Teresa (Michael) and a caring grandmother to 13 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Retta was predeceased by her siblings Brian, Nancy, Ross, and Joan. She will also be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Friends and family are invited to Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main St, Dundas, Ontario, on Wednesday, January 22, at 2–4 p.m. and 7–9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church on Thursday, January 23, at 10:30 am. The burial will follow at St. Augustine’s Cemetery, then a reception at the Air Force Club in Dundas from 12:30–3:30. Donations can be made in memory to Martha’s House or to the Campaign Life Coalition. Retta lived a full life. As a young woman, she traveled with girlfriends, served in the Far East with the US Army, and graduated from Marquette University, where she met her husband Frank. She loved children. Seven of her own wasn’t enough; she also cared for foster children, and through Birthright she helped countless pregnant women in need. Until a month before her death, Retta lived in her own second floor apartment, remained active in her church community, and was an avid bridge player. She will be missed by her many, many friends.

Passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, January 13, 2020. Predeceased by her husband Bill (2011). Dearly loved and missed by her children Mark (Judy), Lori (Gary Ewing), Chris (Tina) and Ray; 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her daughter Lynn and her husband Bob and by son Greg. In keeping with Evelyn’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of her Life will be held on Saturday, February 15, at the Winchester Arms,120 King St. W., Dundas, from 2-4p.m.
