It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Peter Osamu Kurita on Sunday, February 5th, 2023 in Dundas, Ontario.
Forever 21, Peter was in his 93rd year and is survived by his big brother, Roy Shoichi, who once sewed their earnings from a summer job into Peter’s shirt and instructed him not to take off the shirt, even to bathe, until he got home. Or so the story goes, and it may have been the other way around depending on who is telling the tale; and it was Roy’s shirt.
Peter was a wise and generous Uncle to his nieces (Jeannine Hack, Sharon Lee, Debbie Sakaguchi, Patti Kurita and Janice Kurita) and nephews (Keith Sakaguchi, Bob Sakaguchi, Richard Nagai, Warren Oda and Kelvin Oda), grand nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews, and was a loved grandfather to Danielle and Paul Nicholls, a great-grandfather and a great-great-grandfather.
Peter is predeceased by his spouse, Marian McCowan (1987), his parents, Matsuji (1974) and Hatsu (1976) Kurita, his sisters, Akiko Irene (1945), Yoshi Margaret (2008), Kathleen Aiko (1997), and Lily Fumiko (2000).
Peter was a teacher and Principal in the York Region District School Board and retired in 1985. He was a frequent flyer and visited 98 countries, including Antarctica. He created, celebrated and shared his memories of travel with everyone and anyone.
The family would like to extend its thanks to the staff of Amica Dundas Seniors Residence for their dedicated and generous service, and to the staff of the Juravinski Hospital – Ward 3E for their medical support and acumen. As per Peter’s wishes, cremation has already occurred.

Barbara left this world on Saturday, February 4th at the age of 92 in the loving hands of the staff at Margaret’s Place Hospice as the result of kidney failure. Leaving behind decades of memories for all who knew her, Barbara was a shining light of kindness, decorum to a fault and elegance. Born in Bognor Regis, Sussex, England the youngest of five girls, Mum spent her early years working for her father’s many different businesses. Once married to Robert (Bob), Mum and Dad immigrated to Canada and never looked back. Their mutual love of dancing had them keep a social calendar busier than their teenage children’s! Her return to work life consisted of a job at Eaton’s and eventually working as a physiotherapy aide. Known for her many talents, Barbara took joy from and excelled at cooking the most elaborate and delicious dinners, baking the most wonderful desserts, sewing the best fitting and beautiful clothing, and visual arts and crafts too various to mention. Mum was known for giving anything a try and then doing it exceptionally well. An animal lover, Mum never met a dog or cat she didn’t like. Her years after Bob passed were restructured with volunteering for the sewing committee at Westfield Heritage Village where she recreated period costumes from 1755 through to 1925. She was the organizer of period costume fashion shows in which she participated for years. Missing her every day will be her children William Bates (Janice) and Diane Dodds, her four grandkids Amanda (Andrew), Colin, Nicola and Lauren, her loving niece Jill Kleinsteuber (Maurice) and nephew Michael Beavis. Known to many, she will be missed by all. Friends will be received by the family on Sunday, February 12th from 12:00 p.m. until the time of Barbara’s Service at 1:00 p.m. at Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas. In accordance with Mum’s wishes, cremation has already taken place. Passed away in Hamilton on January 29, 2023 in his 73rd year. Loving father to Robert Amos (Melanie) and Genevieve Gauvreau; caring grandfather to Cameron, Marisa, Luc, Elodie and Rowan and dearly remembered by Stacey. Al was known for his calmness, love of the outdoors, and ability to always find a back road. After a career of working heavy construction and building some of Ontario’s most notable buildings, he retired up north by the lake for his final decades. Al was a long-time coach of girls’ softball, and rarely missed a game of his offspring’s junior hockey. Al would always find the furthest parking spot at any destination, just to enjoy the walk and ensure a little more peace. We’re sure there’s a far spot waiting for you on your next adventure. Cremation has taken place, donations can be made, in memory, to Labrador Retriever Adoption Services.
It is with profound sadness, we announce the passing of Sandra Jean Anderson (Nee Payne) on Monday, the 23rd of January, 2023. Sandra was born in Berkhamsted, England on June 11, 1946. In her 76th year , she is survived by her partner David Davidson, her daughter Tamsin Moore (Jon), her son Mark Anderson (Tirzah) and grandchildren Marah, Josephine, Zachary and Taliah. Dear sister of Jan Proctor (David), Eileen Edwards (David), Julie Cushion (Steve) and brother Alan Payne (Barbara) plus many nieces and nephews in England. Sandra had a love of music that started as a child, nurtured by her parents (William & Eva Payne) and later in various Salvation Army youth singing groups and for the past 20 plus years as a member of Classic Blend and the Golden Horseshoe Chorus. Barbershop singing was her passion. Sandra loved gardening and her annual floral arrangements on the deck and in the yard were most impressive. Professionally, Sandra worked for over 30 years at Sorby and Associates. Friends are invited to join the family in a Celebration of Sandra’s life, which will be held on Saturday, February 4th from 2 – 4 p.m. at the Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas, ON. Passed away peacefully at St. Peter’s Hospital, Hamilton on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 in her 97th year. Predeceased by her husband Raymond (2003). Much loved mother of Douglas, Greta and Anthony. Mother-in-law to Sue, David and Roberta. Caring and involved grandmother to her sixteen grandchildren, and an important presence in the lives of twenty-six great grandchildren.
Miss Glenna was greatly valued back home in Gonzales, Port of Spain, Trinidad. She enjoyed her volunteer work with the Boy Scouts and Cubs, travelling with the troop to other Caribbean locations for vacations that mixed cultural experiences as well as plenty of fun. She belonged to the Women’s Coterie group that helped in the community to make sure families were not wanting and children were given support. On many special occasions such as Christmas and Easter, Glenna held parties for the neighbourhood children which are remembered after many years. On coming to Canada, Glenna worked as a lunch-room supervisor with elementary school children – a job she embraced with much pleasure. In later years, she sang in the choir at the local Canadian Martyrs Church.
Friends and family are invited to Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main St, Dundas on Friday, January 27th from 12:00 to 2:30 for a visitation with a Service immediately following in the chapel.
Burial will take place at White Chapel Cemetery, 1895 Main St. West, Hamilton. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the choir at Canadian Martyrs Church.
Although the family of Joyce Gertrude Teeuwen is saddened to announce her passing on January 21st, 2023, in her 86th year, her prayers have now been answered. She is now free from illness and pain and finally reunited with her beloved husband Paul and, most recently, son Leonard. She is survived and will be greatly missed by her daughter Phyllis Connelly (Jamie), sister Marg Falsetto (George), brother Bruce Coleman (Bertha), many grandchildren (Ellen, Jason, Megan, Simon & Jeremy), nieces and nephews both in Canada and Holland. She was predeceased by her parents and two brothers Bob and Don. Joyce was born on June 20th 1936 in Kitchener, Ontario. She initially pursued a career in nursing at the University of Toronto, but after marrying the love of her life, Paul, spent most of her life caring for her family. When Paul passed suddenly at age 47, her caring took the form of stockpiling mass quantities of instant mashed potatoes in case money ran out. Through those challenging times, her faith was what sustained her. Despite this early loss, Joyce had a full life. She was able to visit many parts of the world with friends and family. Alaska was her favourite trip. Other memorable ones included getting held at gunpoint on her Israel bus tour and being medically airlifted out of Iceland to Canada. Joyce was incredibly strong, selfless, and loyal. She showered her loved ones with all forms of affection, never expecting or wanting anything in return. Later in life when her body slowed but her mind stayed quick, her love came in the form of constant prayer, phone calls, and snacks that she pocketed and slipped us from her various retirement and LTC residences. Thank you specifically to the staff at Anne Hathaway Retirement Residence in Stratford, and Wentworth Lodge in Dundas for their excellent and compassionate care. A celebration of Joyce’s life will be held on Saturday, January 28/23. Friends will be received at 10:00am with the service at 11:00am at the Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas Ontario. Internment to follow at The New Dundee Union Cemetery. Surrounded by the love of her family, Sandra passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Villa, on Thursday, January 19, 2023 at the age of 81. She will be missed by her devoted husband Marty of 58 years; her loving children Lori (Dennis Griepentrog) and Jamie (Krista). Cherished Grandma to Jessie, Sherry, Tia, Aricka and Elijah and Great-Grandma to Layla and Ryleigh; dear sister of Angela Taus (John) and Sherry Della Vedova. Dear daughter of the late Archie and Josie Della Vedova. Sandra was born and raised in Sudbury and worked at the Dominion grocery store as a cashier. She and Marty moved to Kirkland Lake for a couple of years, before making Dundas their permanent home. Sandra had a beautiful smile that matched her outgoing personality. She adored babies and toddlers and devotedly cared for her own, as well as those in the neighbourhood. She loved to shop, go on bus trips and attend her weekly Calorie Counter meetings with her fun-loving friends. Sandra enjoyed cooking and baking and will be remembered for her delicious Christmas shortbread cookies. She was also an avid reader and loved to knit. She was a long time member of St. Augustine’s C.W.L and enjoyed participating in their annual bazaars. All will be missed about her, but remembered fondly forever. Her family would like to thank the staff at St. Joseph’s Villa on the Pine Grove unit for their care and compassion toward Sandra and for making her family feel like theirs. Friends will be received by the family on Wednesday afternoon and evening from 2-4 and 7-9 at Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas. Funeral Mass will be held at ST. AUGUSTINE’S CHURCH, 58 Sydenham Street, Dundas on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. Entombment at Resurrection Cemetery. She will be lovingly missed by her son Stephen Baguley (Ann), daughter Susan Philip (John), her 5 grandchildren Christopher Philip, Peter Baguley, Heather Stubbs (Adam), Beth Baguley, Colin Philip and great-grandson Rory Stubbs, sister Laurel McAllister and numerous family members and friends. Phyllis was predeceased by her husband Derek of 65 years, and sister Ruth Ellison. The family wishes to send special thanks to the wonderful nursing staff at St. Joseph’s Villa Long Term Care Home in Dundas, for their care and compassion over the last 3 years. A celebration of Phyllis’ life will be held on Tuesday, January 24th, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at which time Phyllis’ Service will take place at 11:00 at Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas. An interment will follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens Cemetery at 1895 Main Street, Hamilton, Ontario. It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Vicki Elizabeth MacDonald (nee Dexter). Vicki died peacefully with her family by her side at Margaret’s Place hospice on January 16, 2023 after a brief illness. She joins her late husband of 52 years, Grant MacDonald, her parents Edith Elizabeth (nee Crowe) and John Dexter and her brother Robert Dexter. She will be dearly missed by her daughters Kristi (Pierre) and Kelly, her son Josh (Jaime), her grandchildren Jacob and Hannah, her sister Jill Franklyn, and her nieces and nephews. Vicki was born in Truro, Nova Scotia and moved to Ontario at a young age. She settled in Hamilton, married her high school sweetheart, raised a family and was a loving mother and grandmother. Vicki worked as a legal secretary in the Hamilton legal community for over 30 years. She was a long-time member of Westdale United Church where she sang in the church choir and made many life-long friends. In addition to her love of music and the arts, Vicki was an avid reader with a particular fondness for mysteries and the works of Shakespeare. She instilled an enduring love of reading and an appreciation of live theater in her children and grandchildren. A Celebration of Vicki’s life will take place on Sunday, January 29 from 2-4 p.m. at Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations to Margaret’s Place Hospice or the Cancer Assistance Program of Hamilton would be appreciated by the family.
Peacefully, on Wednesday January 11 2023, surrounded by the love of his family, Scott Edward Monds Jr. lost his lengthy battle with AML Leukaemia. Scotty spent his 28 years living life to the fullest. His love of ATV’ing, big trucks, hunting, and fishing were well known. His best days were spent with his amazing friends (and there are a lot) who never left his side. Family was so important to Scotty. He leaves behind his heartbroken parents, Diane and Scott, his brother Joey, who loved and supported him all day, every day and his amazing girlfriend Chrissy Stegmaier, who showed him what true love was all about.
Scotty’s dog Beau helped him through some of the hardest days and will miss him terribly.
Scotty was loved by his Grandparents, Dick and Dene Stafford (deceased) and Jim and Margaret Monds. He was blessed to have the best Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins. John and Karen Stafford, Kyle and Emily Stafford, Taylor and Jason Riley. Jason, Jen, Aaron and Jacob Stafford. Karen and David Monds. Jamie, Victoria, David and Liam Monds. Kelly and Terry Collett. Nicole, Simon, Addison and Joshua Lareau, Carley, Jamie and Josh Aussem. Cody, Kelsey, Everett and Brie Collett. We are forever grateful for our California Family, Jeff, Danielle, Jeremy, Berkley and Finley Bean. Without Danielle and the support of her family, the last 5 plus years would not have been possible. Danielle donated her Stem Cells to Scotty not once, but twice. Always our Angel from California and Family Forever. We are forever thankful to Dr. Brian Leber, Nurse Practitioner Jenna French, the nursing teams of B4 and C4 and Oncology Day Service Nurses and Doctors along with the rest of the amazing team at Juravinski Hospital. Scotty always said, you were his people. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Juravinski Stem Cell Unit would be greatly appreciated. Donations of Blood, Platelets and Stem Cells via Canadian Blood Services are always encouraged.
