It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. John Fawcett at St. Joseph’s Villa, Dundas, ON, on August 14th, 2024 in his 88th year.
John was predeceased by his parents, Dr. John Fawcett of Hamilton and Marjorie (Edgar), Owen Sound.
John is survived by his wife of 63 years and best friend, Mary (Richardson) and his sons, Dr. Peter Fawcett, Albuquerque (Diane), Dr. Jim Fawcett, Halifax (Joanna) and Donald Fawcett, KC, Toronto. John was predeceased by his youngest son Douglas (Angela).
John dearly loved his eight grandchildren and was very proud of their accomplishments: John and William of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Katie, Alan and Paul of Halifax, NS and Paige, Abby and Leah of Sebringville, Ont.
John grew up in Hamilton, attended Westdale High School and graduated from the faculty of Dentistry at the University of Toronto, Class of 1962. John practiced dentistry in Dundas, Ontario for over 30 years.
Community service was a hallmark of John’s life. John was a member of the Rotary Club of Dundas and President of the Flamborough Hockey League. John served as an Elder and trustee of Knox Presbyterian Church, Dundas and served as Chair of the Knox Day Care committee for many years. John also was a member of the Hamilton Academy of Dentistry and Chair of the Benevolence Committee of the Ontario Dental Association. In his retirement John chaired the Hamilton Housing Emergency Loan program.
John and Mary enjoyed the study and collection of antique Canadian glass and furniture with a particular focus on antiques featuring the Canadian symbols of the beaver and maple leaf. John spent many happy hours walking his golden retrievers on the Bruce trail at Rock Chapel and the beach at Southampton, Ont.
John is remembered by his friends and family for his deep interest in people, and his dry sense of humour. He will be missed by many. The family would also like to thank the staff on Willow Grove at St. Joseph’s Villa for their care and affection for John.
A celebration of John’s life will be held Friday October 11th, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main St., Dundas Ontario followed by a luncheon reception at the Dundas Museum, 139 Park Street West, Dundas ON. Memorial donations will kindly be received by the St. Joseph’s Villa Foundation or the Royal Botanical Gardens.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Matthew, on August 18, 2024 aged 54. Matt will be immeasurably missed by his siblings Laura Sergeant and Myles Sergeant (Sonia Anand). He was the proud uncle of Anjali, Anand and Sachin. He will be missed by his extended family: Aunt Gwen O’Neill, Elaheh and Shahab Mirzad, his cousins; long-time friends Dean, Mark; and his “ex”—Lisa Keesmaat. Matt was the adored youngest child of Merv and Donna Sergeant. He’s predeceased by his brother Stephen and his parents.
Matt was a graduate of the Harris Institute (Music Production Program). He was born with Myotonic Dystrophy, a life-limiting illness, yet rarely complained. MD didn’t define him. Matthew will be remembered for his gentle nature, curiosity, humour and phenomenal memory. He played piano, soccer, bowled for years, wrote poetry, adored cats, was both a great and messy chef and could field any question about the Beatles or the Bible. He was a member of Philpott Church where he sang in the choir.
Matthew was part of the Good Shepherd community of homes and felt blessed to live independently in an apartment he adored on Ray Street. The staff and “Team 4” extended care in many ways and will miss his good nature. Matt’s medical needs were complex and he was supported by more lovely providers than we can name. Special thanks to his family physician, Dr. Anna Emili, Matt deeply appreciated her home visits. The family would like to thank Dr. Mark Tarnopolsky and Dr. Zahira Khalid; Fire Station 11 who were first responders to Matt and treated him with kindness and dignity; and his beloved support workers, Rosie Librero and Rowena Belmont.
Friends will be received by the family on Friday, August 23rd in the afternoon and evening from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 at Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas. Matthew’s Service will be held at Philpott Church, 84 York Blvd, Hamilton on Saturday, August 24th at 11:00 a.m. Private interment. In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to Good Shepherd Centres, Philpott Church or Trees for Hamilton.
July 20, 1942 – August 14, 2024. Hermann passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at Hamilton General Hospital. Husband to the late Dagmar Luft (nee Fischer), father to sons Marcus (Laura), Alexander (Catherine), and Darius, Opa to Gemma, Petra, Silas, and Audrey. Hermann will be missed by his many family members in Germany; in particular, his sister, Hilde. A special thank you to Marie-Louise Kallsen and Matt Casey for their care in his final months. Born in Marienbad, Czechoslovakia, Hermann immigrated to Canada in 1967 where he worked for many years as an Art Director in the advertising industry and later as a teacher of Graphic Design. Hermann was known as an artist, a lover of film, and an avid gardener. Private burial to take place. In memory of Hermann, donations to the Hamilton Conservation Foundation would be sincerely appreciated by his family.
With great sadness, we announce the passing of Dianna Margaret Goldsmith (Anderson). Dianna, 83, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on August 13th, 2024 at Carpenter Hospice.
Born September 13, 1940 in Hamilton, ON, to Anna and William “Mac” Anderson, Dianna was predeceased by her husband, David Stewart. She will be dearly missed by her children, daughter, Kim, son, Shaun (Bahar), as well as the rest of her family and friends.
Warm thanks to the staff at The Carpenter Hospice for giving Dianna such wonderful and tender care.
Visitation will take place at Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main St, Dundas on Friday, August 16th, at 10:30 a.m. with a service at 11:30 a.m., and interment to follow at Grove Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to The Carpenter Hospice in Burlington.
With deep sadness we announce the passing of Barbara Jean Tatone (Norris) on Tuesday, August 13th, 2024. She left us peacefully with her husband Ozzie by her side. Barb was a nurse, mother, grandmother, quilter extraordinaire, award-winning gardener, and one-time business woman. Barb was predeceased by her parents Dr. Lance and Agnes Norris. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, children Jennifer (Patrick), Lance (Cameron), Stephen, Elise (Fred); grand children Bridget, Steve, Robbie and Mike and by her brother Ron (Joan). Barb also enjoyed the laughter and camaraderie of her in-laws and many nieces and nephews. She loved family so much and enjoyed every minute with the Tatone clan from when she was first brought home by Oz. She will be missed terribly by all. Barb will be cremated according to her wishes. A celebration of life will be held at a future date. The family would like to thank all the many professionals (and there are dozens) involved in Barb’s care over the past few years. It’s been a long haul, but you made it good until the very end. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to Juravinski Cancer Centre Foundation, the St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation, or a foundation of your choice.
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Joyce Tarr (nee Kacevman) at Elm Villa Retirement Home in Dundas on August 6, 2024 at the age of 78.
Predeceased by her father Sam, mother Anna, husband Ernie and son Michael. Survived by her son Jeff (Nicole), grandsons Spencer and Nolan, and sisters Diane and Jennifer. Joyce will be missed by many more family and friends.
