Kane, Katharine

KANE, Katharine Mary Elizabeth  (nee Devine) passed away peacefully Saturday September 16, 2023.  Katharine was predeceased by her beloved husband Raymond and her dearly loved son John and daughter Angela.

Cherished Mom to Elizabeth Biddle (Brent) and Barbara Barrett (Larry).   Beloved Grandmother to Alexandra and Jacob Culp, Jacqueline Biddle and Michael Peralta, Stuart Biddle, Vanessa and Madeleine Kane, their mother Valerie Kane and Raya Facey.  Very proud Great Grandma to Lucas Culp.

Katharine was the treasured  daughter of Leo and Loretta Devine.   Her Ottawa Valley cousins held a special place in her heart, The O’Gorman Family,  Tom and Pat, Terry and Margaret , Kevin and Kay, Patsy and Terry Neville, Joan and Walter Scott, Barbara , Barry and Diane , Brian and Joanne  and the Devine Family cousins  Margaret Ryan, Doris O’Neil and Barbara Pitman.

Mom was grateful and blessed with many wonderful friends, from Cobden to Ottawa, Kingston, Hamilton, Highland Hills in Dundas and St. Joseph’s Estates.

Katharine was born May 6, 1931 in Cobden Ontario, where she enjoyed a carefree and loving upbringing.  She was a proud grad of the Class of ’52, Hotel Dieu Hospital , Kingston.  “Katie” then moved to Hamilton where she worked in the OR at St. Joseph’s Hospital.  She retired from nursing in 1957 to care for her growing family.  She later returned to healthcare working part time in home care.  Her most rewarding time was volunteering for many years back at “St. Joe’s”.  Katie was also an active member of St. Augustine’s C.W.L. for almost 60 years.

Visitation at Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main St. Dundas (905-628-6412) on Thursday September 21st  from 4 – 7 pm. Prayers at 7pm.  Funeral Mass to be celebrated at St. Augustine’s Church, 58 Sydenham St. Dundas at 10 am Friday September 22, 2023.   Burial to follow at St. Augustine’s Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation, The Good Shepard ,  The Salvation Army or a charity of your choice. 

Goede, John

To our deepest sorrow, it has pleased the LORD to take out of our midst, our beloved father, caring grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, and uncle, at the age of 89 years, on Saturday, September 16th, 2023. Devoted husband of his wife Ina who, after 55 years of marriage, passed away in November 2016. Loving father of Cam and Sally Goede, David and Dorota Goede, Christina Goede, Marc and Amy Goede, Ryan and Carlie Goede, Alan and Michelle Goede, Katherine and Louie DiPastena. Opa to Julia, John, Liam, David, Claire, Adam, Andrew, Matthew, Olivia, Alexa, Robert, Leah and Lucas. Brother to Hans and Patricia Goede, and Irene de Leeuw and predeceased by brother Jan Goede.

Family and friends will be received at the Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main St, Dundas on Tuesday, September 19th from 7-9p.m. and on Wednesday, September 20th, at Maranatha Free Reformed Church, 1114 Old Mohawk Rd., Ancaster from 10:00am until the time of the Funeral Service at 11:00am. Pastor Procee Officiating. Burial to take place at Mount Zion Cemetery, Copetown.

Reid, Keith

Reid, Keith – Passed away at home on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 in his 58th year. Loving brother of Kevin. Predeceased by brothers Kirk and Kerry. He will be sadly missed by his friends and all who knew him. Cremation has taken place.

MacQueen, Lorna

Lorna MacQueen passed away peacefully in Dundas, Ontario in the loving presence of her sister Meg and brother Ken and his wife Marion on September 13, 2023 at the age of 64, from complications following a stroke. She leaves behind her brother Kenneth and sister Margaret (Meg) and was predeceased by her dear brother Graeme who passed away in April. She will be sadly missed by not only her family but her many dear friends.

After attending the Atlantic School of Theology, Lorna was a dedicated United Church minister for forty years. In the 1980s she was a United Church partner in mission in Brazil for three years. Most of her ministry was performed in the Maritime provinces but for the past fifteen years she has lived and served in Ontario, mostly in the United Church administrative offices but also in various churches in the Hamilton area as a sought-after interim minister.

She will be lovingly remembered as a woman who in her own way fought for justice and rights for humans as well as animals, and her dogs were a huge part of her life. A capable, dynamic and creative woman, she also created beautiful art in the form of watercolours.

Funeral services will be held at St. Mark’s United Church in Dundas, Ontario on September 15 at 10:30a.m. and in the United Heritage Church in Sydney, Nova Scotia on September 27 at 2:00p.m.. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Lorna’s name to a non-profit organization of your choice.

Lee, Ruth Tennant

RUTH TENNANT LEE (nee GARDNER) passed away peacefully with family by her side on Friday, September 8th. Ruth was the loving and devoted wife of David (deceased) for 60 years. Cherished mother of Daniel (Teresa Wasiak-Lee (both deceased)); Sarah (Cameron Belsher); Stephen (partner Nancy Reinhart); and Deborah (Kevin Eldridge). Beloved grandmother of Kristen and Shane Belsher; Duncan, Adam and Robyn Eldridge; and Clare Adamcik (David). She was an adored sister of Helen Bryans and James Gardner (deceased), cousin, aunt and great-aunt, and a loyal and valued friend to many.

Ruth was born on June 10, 1932, raised in Hamilton and moved to Dundas when she married David in 1958. A graduate of McMaster University (Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics, 1954), Ruth’s proudest achievement was being selected as Head Girl (Women’s Student Body President) for her final year. Ruth was a natural teacher who both lived and loved to help others. She worked as a math teacher at Hill Park Secondary in Hamilton and later worked as a legal secretary at Lee & Lee Law Office.

Ruth was accomplished and passionate about all her interests whether it was knitting, sewing, playing the piano or designing and creating hand-made greeting cards.

Ruth had a strong Christian faith which was the center of her life. She was actively involved at St. Mark’s United Church in Dundas for over 60 years, and co-founded the original St. Mark’s Co-Op Preschool. A large part of Ruth’s legacy was founding the St. Mark’s handbell choir which she first directed and then rang in right up until her passing.

Ruth was an extraordinary mother and showed by example how to treat others with love, kindness and sincerity. She hoped to leave the world a better place and she did.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Hamilton General Hospital Stroke Rehab Centre for their outstanding compassion, care and unending patience. They also wish to thank Dr. Shankardass for his wise medical advice, and friendship of the family, for over 40 years.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Mark’s United Church (now known as Highland Hills Faith Community) , 1 Lynndale Drive, Dundas on Saturday, October 14th at 2pm, followed by a reception. Visitation will take place at the same location on Friday, October 13th from 7-9 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ruth may be made to the Bell Fund at St. Mark’s United Church, 1 Lynndale Drive, Dundas, Ontario L9H 3L4 or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.

Bouwmeester, Bernie

Berend Bouwmeester passed into glory at the age of 91. Dearly loved husband of Hilda Bouwmeester for over 67 years. Loving father to George (Liz) and Brian (Arlene). Grandfather to 8 Amanda (Frank), Nick (Elyse), Lisa (Jon), Rebecca (Matt), Natalie (Eric), Steven (Andrea), Eric (Avery) and Adam and Great-grandfather to 13 grandchildren. Dear brother to Henny Stryker, Theresa Brokking (Joop), Deiny Brunsveld (Bill), Johnny Bouwmeester (Claire), and Harry Bouwmeester (Liz). Dear brother-in-law to Helen Bouwmeester. Predeceased by his parents Arend and Jantje Bouwmeester, brothers Albert Bouwmeester and Jans Bouwmeester, brother-in-law John Stryker and sister-in-law Aafje Bouwmeester, son Arnold Bouwmeester and granddaughter Tanya Bouwmeester. Family and friends will be received at Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main St., Dundas on Tuesday, September 12 from 6:00 – 9:00 P.M. Funeral Service will take place Wednesday, September 13 at 11:00 A.M. in Ebenezer Free Reformed Church with Pastor Lawrence Bilkes officiating. Interment in Mount Zion cemetery 1324 Concession 2 Rd. W. Copetown.
Reception to follow at the church. Donations made to Peace Haven will be greatly appreciated by the family.
