(1962 – 2022) – Suddenly on Saturday, March 19, 2022, we lost a beloved husband, father, grandpa, brother, and friend. He will be deeply missed by his wife Cheryl (nee Harper) of 35 years, his daughters; Michelle (Brian) and Jessie (Jake) and the new love of his life, his granddaughter Harper. Survived by his mother May, and his siblings David (Jeanette), Joanne (Mark), Donna-May, Barbara (Steve) and Carolyn (Scott) as well as 19 nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his father Roy. Joe loved all things sports and refereed for over 40 years with the DMHA and loved his golf games with his crew. His smile and chuckle were contagious, and he will always be remembered for his easy-going nature and his ability to find the good in everyone. Visitation will take place on Friday, March 25, 2022, from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. with Service to follow at Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Tire Jumpstart Program in Joe’s name would be appreciated by the family so all kids can participate in what Joe loved most.
Passed away peacefully on Friday, March 18, 2022 in his 71st year. Beloved husband of Sheila (nee Fennell). Loving father to Michael (Lara) of Rochester, NY. Caring grandfather to Holden of Conestogo, Ontario. Don will be missed by sisters Margaret Ford (Rhea Van Keuren), and Jane Ford (Terry Hall), and nephews Davis and Gregory Hall.
Cremation has taken place. Honoring Don’s wishes, internment is private. If you wish to make a donation in memory of Don, please direct such to a charity of your choice.
Passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 17th, 2022 in her 95th year. She will be lovingly remembered by her son David and daughter-in-law Kim (Stratford), her son Simon (Toronto) and her granddaughters Megan (Guelph) and Gillian (North Vancouver).
Averil was born in London, England in 1927. She was predeceased by her father and stepmother, William and Esme Morrison, her mother Annie Hamilton Smith and her brother William Ian Morrison.
Averil and her brother Ian were evacuated from wartime England in 1940 and resided safely with the welcoming Carey family in Canada until 1945. She will be remembered fondly by her foster sisters Carol, Jocelyn and Susan.
After the war Averil graduated from Edinburgh University. She married her beloved ‘Dear Boy’, Ian Thompson, in 1956 and they enjoyed 58 years together before Ian’s passing in 2015. The family emigrated to Canada in 1968, settling in Dundas, Ontario. Both Averil and Ian worked at nearby McMaster University for close to 23 years. At the time of her retirement in 1992 Averil held the position of Manager of Staffing in the Personnel Department.
Averil will be sorely missed by her family, friends, and her many acquaintances, especially those connected with St. Mark’s Church, McMaster University Retirees Association, the Probus Club of Dundas and the residents of 2000 Creekside Drive, where she served on the Board of Directors for 10 years.
Sincere thanks are given to Dr. Anna Emili and Dr. Mark Fischer for their compassionate care over many years. Thanks also to Amica of Dundas for their safekeeping of Averil these past few years.

It is with sadness Mrs. Thelma Halliday-Gibbons of Kitchener passed away peacefully at the great age of 101 on February 12th, 2022 at the Heritage House Nursing Home, St. Jacobs. Thelma was born in Dundas on August 17, 1920. She was sister to Lorney (Eva), Joe (Jessy), Howard (Ruth), Bill (Joan) and Hazel (Stan). Thelma married Chuck Halliday. They had four children Jerry (Ruthann), Bonnie (Picard), Jane (Tom Binkley) and Greg (Marianne). Chuck passed away in his 40’s. Thelma had many cousins, nieces and nephews, grandchildren great and great-great grandchildren. Thelma was a Homemaker and a Seamstress. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, building fond memories. She was a devout Catholic, attended Mass every Sunday. When her children had grown she went back to school and became a Bookkeeper and received her driver’s license. Later Thelma married Clark (Jack Gibbons). They spent time traveling and enjoyed their retirement years together. Thelma was very active and generous her entire life. She will be missed by many. A small service will be held in the Spring.
Slack, Lillian Lauretta – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lauretta in her 83rd year. Predeceased by her husband Roy (1992). Amazing mother to Brent (Debbie), Michael (Sandy), Sheri-Lynn Perry (Lance) and Terry. Beloved sister of Irene Mordeca (late Albert). She will be very deeply missed by her grandchildren; Ashley (Gord), Alycia (Josh), Kyleigh (Zach), Tyce (Alisha) and Blake and by her great grandchildren Chance, Isaac and Scarlett. Friends will be received by the family on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 from 12 until the Service for Lauretta at 2 o’clock at the Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas. Interment White Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Kidney Foundation or Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
