January 2nd, 1939 – February 16th, 2018
Marilyn Searle (nee Dodd) passed peacefully on the morning of February 16th, 2018 at home in St. George. Marilyn is predeceased by her beloved husband Bill, parents Lottie and William Dodd of Westdale, and sister Janet Harris. Marilyn always had a keen sense for high quality and was a very talented sewer and painter, both of which brought her much joy. Her true passion though was her family and she will be remembered as a devoted and supportive wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Marilyn will be deeply missed by her children Bill, Tom (Rebecca) and Lesley (Rick), her grandchildren Julia, Derek and Amanda, her cousins, their families and her friends. Marilyn and her family wanted to extend heartfelt thanks to all of her friends for staying in touch; she really appreciated it. Please join us for a visitation with the family and for Marilyn’s favourite food “funeral sandwiches” & refreshments at the Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main St. in Dundas on Wednesday, February 21st from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm and 7:00 – 9:00 pm. In lieu of flowers please make donations to a charity of your choice. An interment ceremony will be held in the spring for both Marilyn & Bill.

Dan’s love for and devotion to his family knew no bounds. His wife and soulmate, Betty (nee Friend), was loved more than any woman on earth. Throughout their 56 years of marriage, they faced the highs and lows of life together. Dan would say that these things only made their love for each other stronger. His ‘three girls’, Lynn Watson, Cindy Dickson (Jason, who has been holding a seat for Dan in Heaven’s Hot Stove Lounge) and Andrea Connor (Michael), each held a very special place in Dan’s heart. One of the things they could always count on was their Dad’s love and support. Dan was extremely proud of his four grandchildren, Riley (Cole), Chloe, Mary and Charlie. In his eyes, it was impossible for any of them to do wrong. His friends were also so important to Dan. A lifetime of stories about his baseball teams, hiking group, poker club, and lifelong friends will never grow old. Dan loved so deeply, and was so deeply loved. Betty, Lynn, Cindy and Andrea will be greeting family and friends at the Turner Family Funeral Home at 53 Main Street in Dundas on Thursday, February 15th from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 pm, followed by a Celebration of Dan’s Life on Friday, February 16th at 1:00 pm. Dan’s family would like to extend sincere and heartfelt thanks to all of the incredible people at St. Peter’s Hospital in Hamilton for their kindness and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Palliative Care Wing at St. Peter’s Hospital would be greatly appreciated.

Wright , L. Marshall – It is with great sadness that the family of Marshall announces his death in his 93rd year, on Monday, February 5, 2018, in Dundas, Ontario. He is predeceased by the love of his life and wife of 70 years, Audrey (nee Headley) and by his precious granddaughter, Leah MacAdam. He is the deeply cherished father of Sandy DeVoe (Phil), Jan Burke-Gaffney (Mike), Wendy-Marsha MacAdam (David) and Jennifer Wright. Adored Grandfather to Wendy, P.J., Marshall (Erin), Joe, Andrew, Jesse, Emily and Hayley. Adoring Great-Grandfather to Gavin, Alex, Connor, Ali and Wolf. Born in Ottawa in 1925, he is predeceased by his parents Margaret (Trodden) and Leithwold Wright, his brother and sister-in-law Garn and Eileen (Dunn) Wright, brother-in-law, Ron Armstrong and survived by his sister, Lois Armstrong and many nieces and nephews. At age 17, Marshall became a sergeant pilot flying Tiger Moths but was too young to see action. He married his high school sweetheart, a love story that never ended, and graduated Queen’s University. He entered a distinguished career in the Canadian Armed Forces that included postings around the world and service in Korea in 1952-53 with his regiment Lord Strathcona’s Horse. He went on to command two helicopter squadrons, 403, Gagetown, New Brunswick, and 444 in Lahr, Germany. He lectured at the Canadian Staff College in Toronto and piloted Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau before retirement as a Lt. Colonel. He and Audrey fulfilled a dream to retire in the British Virgin Islands where they spent 17 years sailing, swimming and scuba diving. They returned to Canada in their 70’s to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Marshall will be missed for his fantastic sense of humour, his adventurous spirit and his loving heart. Special gratitude to the staff at Wentworth Lodge whose tender concern for Marshall’s comfort was greatly valued by his family. Cremation has taken place. A private family gathering will be held. Donations to the Salvation Army would be greatly appreciated by Marshall and his family.

June 3, 1954 – February 7, 2018
Durksen, Daniel Bruce, died Feb. 7, 2018 in his 64th year, dearly loved husband of Rick Spies, stepfather of Jeremy (Rita) Spies, Nell Spies (Anthony Morden), Miriam Spies, brother of Bill (Gita) Durksen, David (June) Durksen (St. Catharines) and Joan (Dan) Nicolle (Fort Langley, BC), nephew to many aunts and uncles, uncle to many nieces and nephews, dear friend of Diane Blanchard. A resident of Dundas for the past 10 years he was born and raised in St. Catharines, son of Agatha and Alfred Durksen. Educated at Brock and Western Universities, Mennonite Brethren Bible College (Winnipeg) he was a wonderfully talented and sensitive collaborative musician working in the areas of church music (First Baptist Church, Ingersoll, and Grace Anglican Church, Brantford both for many years), dance (accompanist for Oxford School of Dance, Ingersoll), choral music (Grand Philharmonic Choir in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ingersoll Choral Society and others), teaching (piano, organ, vocal) and examining (Canada Conservatory). He was a superlative accompanist for both instruments and voice. A gentle soul, a caring spirit, a loving heart endeared him to all. His love for God made known in Christ shaped his every day. Visitation at Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main St., Dundas on Saturday, Feb. 10 from 1 to 5 pm. Funeral service at GRACE ANGLICAN CHURCH, 4 Pearl St., Brantford on Sunday, Feb. 11 at 2 pm followed by reception and Freiwilliges (come with a story or a song, a poem or a praise word). Burial Monday, Feb. 12 at 11 am in Grove Cemetery, Dundas. Donations may be made to the MCC (Mennonite Central Committee), Grace Anglican Church (Brantford) or Grand Philharmonic Choir (Kitchener).

Veteran WWII – Suddenly at home February 5th, 2018 in his 97th year, active and enjoying life to the end. Beloved husband of the late Margaret Kemp and the late Kathryn Alton Strauch. Survived by his sister Betty Lysons of Alberta and her children Wayne, Elaine and Betty Anne. He will be dearly missed by his step children Dave & Marnie Strauch and Marolyn Cook and their families. Visitation to be held Thursday, February 8th at 10a.m. with a Service to follow at 11a.m. at Copetown United Church, 2218 Governors Rd, Copetown, On . Cremation has taken place. Private Family Internment to take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Copetown United Church or a charity of your choice.
