Dear Rudin and Dowling. I am so saddened to read of the passing of Karen. The last time I saw her she was 1 year old at our house as we celebrated the birthdays of our daughter Lara and Karen, born one day apart. I recall what a beautiful baby she was and I can see she grew up to be a beautiful young woman and doing such compassionate work. My heart goes out to you both and family and friends. I often talk about you and I, Rudin, as roommates, up at the Henderson Hospital. In some ways seems like yesterday. Sincerely, Marjorie Smith.
Dear Rudin, Dowling, and Kendall,
Cathy, Joseph, and I extend our sincerest condolences and deepest sympathies to all of you on the passing of Karen.
I remember Karen at Cardinal Newman High School as having an upbeat, friendly, and compassionate personality. She was well-respected by her fellow students and all the teachers that taught her.
The fact that she died during a humanitarian mission in Uganda unequivocally demonstrates that she dedicated her life to changing the world by caring for others, bespeaks of the benevolent and altruistic person that she was, and reflects on the positive values that her parents instilled in her.
There is no doubt that she leaves an indelible and commendable impression on all those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Please know that we are saddened by her loss, that we share in your sorrow, and that our thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this sad time.
Tony, Cathy, and Joseph Lo Presti

Dear Dowling and Rudin,
My thoughts and prayers, as well as the prayers of my Mom and Dad, are with you. I remember Christine and I babysat Karen and Kendall, and I remember how much mischief and life shone in Karen’s eyes when she was a little girl of seven or eight. I remember meeting her at several social justice events when we were both grown, I in my early thirties and she in her twenties. We talked then, about life and social justice, and callings, our age difference no longer so great. The world has lost a bright light. I will be at work in Windsor and can’t be present at the funeral, but my heart and spirit will be with you and Kendall.
With fondness and sadness,
Rich (and also Wilma and Ken)
To the Knights Family,
My deepest condolences to the entire family. I met Karen when I transferred over to Cardinal Newman, literally on my first day knowing no one, and Karen welcomed me into her circle of friends with open arms. I didn’t feel alone anymore, and knew I’d always have a friend in Karen. My heart is saddened that I won’t have a reunion with her on this earth, and hope she will be there to welcome me with open arms once again when it’s my time to leave. I know there’s a celebration for her arrival with God, and sadness to everyone here that has to say goodbye. God Bless the entire family and take comfort in each other with the wonderful gift of memories that Karen gave to everyone!
Dear Mr and Mrs Knights and Kendall,
My thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of sorrow. Karen was a kind and loving soul with an amazing spirit.
Please accept my sincere condolences.

Dear Knights Family, The world has lost a beautiful woman, and I lost a caring, vibrant and mysterious friend. We were friends for nearly thirty years and I know she left a mark on everyone’s heart she met, and I was no exceptional nor were my children. We were all richer for having known her and for her loving ways in which she interacted with us. We are so sad to learn that while she was making the world a better place she was taken. I hope God takes good care of her now. She deserves his love. Lynn MacLean (Henschel)

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Knights,
I was extremely saddened to hear of the passing of your daughter. Karen and I worked together in cancer care for two years. I considered her to be one of my best friends from work, so much so that we often made time to get together outside of work. We went out for coffees or meals (usually of Karen’s choosing!), and she was even one of the guests at my very small wedding in September 2010. I have regretted not keeping in touch with her these last few years. I am not surprised, though, that she passed away on a humanitarian mission. She was kind, generous and compassionate. She cared very much for her patients and friends, and was a blessing to many.
Karen, I will miss you. May you rest in peace.
With prayers and sympathy,
Diane Kang

To Karen’s family. I worked with Karen at McMaster. She lived in my neighbourhood. She was one of the funniest, cutest, smartest people I ever met. I have been searching through my past, when I came upon this news… Mrs. Knights, you were my first teacher, one whom I learned from, that love belongs to everyone. Kendall and I have been through St. Martin’s in the same grade, and Karen was the same age as my older sister Anna. I can still hear her laugh and see her smile 18 years later… I try to find a deeper purpose in life every day…. God has decided that Karen has done her job here on earth, and as I go through my bereavement class, for the loss of my mother June 22, 2014, I have learned who indeed it is that has control of it all..our Lord God does. In His hands we must put our everything. As Mother Teresa has said…”everyone who comes to you; let them leave you happier then when they arrived.” Karen has truly done this, every moment that I have come into contact with her, and through the many voices above. God bless you Knights family, and Karen; rest in peace. With all my heart, my sincerest condolences.
Dear Mr. and Mrs. Knights, and Kendall,
I just heard the news of Karen’s passing, and I want to extend to you my sincerest condolences. My memories of Karen are of a beautiful, friendly, always-smiling girl, and I remember your family fondly as well. My heart goes out to you, as I know you are missing her every day. Thank God for the gift of Karen, and for the life she lived, giving of herself to others. Please know that you are in my prayers. God bless and keep you.
Sincerely,
Yvonne MacNiven (nee Lemmen)
I am so sorry for your loss. I just heard about Karen’s passing tonight. She was an amazing person inside and out, and one of the people I remember most growing up. I once got an A+++ for a sketch I did of her as a school project. She was always so cheerful, and gave me a lot of guidance when I started nursing 6 years ago. It’s hard to believe that such a wonderful person is gone. I’ll always remember her big smile and true sincerity.
