With deep sorrow, the family announces the peaceful passing of Barbara at Wentworth Lodge on Monday, January 5, 2026, in her 80th year. She is now reunited with her parents, David and Katherine Reid.
Barbara was the beloved and devoted wife of Dr. Ronald Smith and a loving mother to Brent (Amy) and Bryan (Candace). She was a cherished grandmother to Evan and Abigail. She will be fondly remembered as a special cousin to Patricia (David) and their children, Kevin and Jeffrey. Barbara was sister-in-law to the late Paul Smith (Kathy) and a loving aunt to Jeffrey and Jennifer.
Born in Sherbrooke, Quebec, and raised in Ottawa, Barbara and Ron raised their family in Ancaster, where they lived for 20 years. After a brief career as a laboratory technician, Barbara devoted herself to raising her two sons. She was a longtime member of Ryerson United Church in Ancaster.
Barbara had a love for baking, painting, and reading. Upon becoming a grandmother, her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren, whom she adored. Barbara and Ron celebrated nearly 55 years of marriage.
Friends will be received by the family on Saturday, January 17, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. until the time of Barbara’s service at 1:00 p.m., at Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas. A reception will follow at the funeral home in the Cattel Centre.
Donations in Barbara’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.

Amy, Brent and family, I’m heartbroken for your loss. Barb was an amazing person, and I feel fortunate to have known her. I met her when she was volunteering for The Lung Association, and she quickly became a friend. I looked forward to the days she was there. Always smiling, always joking, that’s how I’ll remember her.
My sincere condolences to Ron, Brent and Amy, Brian and Candice, and to Evan and Abbey.
Barbara was a kind soul. She opened her heart not only to Amy but to all of Amy’s family. Our times together were always happy. We miss her but believe that she is enjoying the promise of eternal life.
Barbara was truly one of a kind, and I feel incredibly grateful to have had her as my aunt. She wasn’t just family — she was someone who made you feel genuinely loved every time you were with her. Her warmth, kindness, and gentle spirit stayed with you long after a visit ended.
To me, she was my favourite aunt, and I will always cherish the many beautiful memories we shared. My heart is with Uncle Ron, Brent and Amy, Evan and Abbey, Bryan, and the entire family during this difficult time. May you find comfort in knowing how deeply Barbara was loved.

Barb did help us with watching our Connor for awhile, when we needed some daycare for him. Was such a big help to us!!! Both our kids would walk across the porch to visit Barb. Lovely
