November 27, 1949 – July 3, 2022
With deep sadness we announce the passing of Joan Kretz peacefully, surrounded by her loving family. Devoted wife/partner to Larry Kretz for 46 years. Beloved mother to Colin (Lisa), Brian (Melissa), and Emily (Chris). Proud and doting grandmother to Alice, Caroline, Hannah, Kodi, Austin, Derek, and Grace. Sister-in-law to Jan, Paul (Judy), and Catherine (Donn). Proud aunt to Vanessa, Ian, and Taylor (Chris). Joan was born in Hamilton to Albert and Barbara Rathbone (predeceased) and raised her family in Dundas, Ontario. Joan had a yen for adventure whether winter camping, wilderness canoe tripping, sailing Lake Ontario; cruising the Intercoastal Waterway, sailing the Bahamas, exploring Europe or enjoying the RV lifestyle. She loved being on the water and basking in the sun on the deck of the sailboat with a good book, a cold glass of wine or just sharing time with friends. Her favourite moments however, were cooking meals and preparing celebrations surrounded by her family. She loved listening to music and dancing in the kitchen. She appreciated the quiet moments in life, when the pace slowed down and conversation came easily. Joan had a gentle, easy-going nature that attracted a wide variety of friends who will miss her soft approach to life and her innate ability to connect with and care for people. Joan will be remembered for a kind and comforting heart that touched everyone who met her. She is still remembered fondly by many as “Momma Kretz”. The family is grateful to all her caregivers at the Juravinski Cancer Center especially Dr. Meyers and all the nurses in the Chemo Suite. We also want to thank the staff at the Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice for a caring and graceful experience. Friends will be received by the family on Thursday, July 7, in the afternoon and evening from 2-4 and 6-8 at Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Augustine’s Church, 58 Sydenham Street, Dundas on Friday at 10:00 a.m. Interment St. Augustine’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers consider donating to the Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice.
Larry, Colin, Brian and Emily, I know you are heart broken now but remember how much you and your families meant to her. She always lit up talking about you and your families. Rest In Peace Joan. You were one of a kind and will be missed by everyone fortunate enough to have known you.

I remember Joan fondly, as my Scotiabank supervisor for many years and a great mom to my friend Emily and her siblings. May God hold you in His arms.
My condolences to the Kretz Family!
Such an amazing, open hearted kind lady.
Momma Kretz, a lovely woman, may your eternal peace be filled with the love of God, & your souls presence be felt for all those remaining behind.
Lead them in death, as you did in life.
Larry and family, I was so sorry to read of Joan’s passing. I worked with her at Dundas branch for about a year and a half. She was most helpful to me and customers when I first started there. We tried keeping in touch by life just got in the way. Joan graciously hosted my branch bridal shower in 1997 as we watched the Plastimet explosion from the back deck. May she Rest In Peace. 🙏❤️ JoAnne Bonaventura, retired Scotiabanker

I was saddened to hear of Joan’s passing, she was kind and loving towards us from the time we met. Ross and I were so lucky to have you as our next door neighbours when we were a young couple and you and Joan were growing your family. I can still see Joan’s smile, hear her laugh and fell her kindness. Thinking of you, sending my love and prayers to you and your family.
Larry,Colin,Brian and Emily,
I would like to express my condolences at the loss of such an important part of your family. Our wonderful memories and experiences will keep Joan with us forever.
As three cousins born to three brothers within 9 months of one another, Judy. Joan and I spent much of our childhood together at family Christmas’s, Birthday Parties and many wonderful hours in our Aunt May’s kitchen. As far away as I am today these memories will always be with me to warm my heart. God’s speed Joan, you will be missed.
