November 10, 1970 – November 29, 2016
Peacefully left this world on November 29th 2016 surrounded by love. Loving husband to Barb Oakes (nee Davis) for 23 years, best friends for 31 years, in love forever. Proud father to Jocelyn, Sadie and Connor. Loving son born to Herb Oakes and Colleen Greene on November 10th,1970 and son-in-law of Frank and Janet Davis. Sadly missed by his step-mother Sandy Oakes, his sister Theresa Oakes, step-brother Jay Sykes (Melissa) and brother-in-law Phil Davis (Tammy). Rich was also loved by his nieces and nephews, many Aunts, Uncles and cousins. In lieu of gifts and flowers a Donation to the Stedman Hospice would be greatly appreciated. There are no words to express our gratitude for the support and care Rich and our family received from the hospice staff. A celebration of life will be held on December 9th, 2016 at Copetown Hall from 5pm-9pm. There will be an opportunity for anyone who wishes to share their thoughts or memories of Rich during the celebration.

We would like to extend our condolences to everyone.

So very sorry to hear of Rich’s passing. I had worked with Rich from time to time and am currently on the same job site that Rich left when he became ill.
Rich was a very well respected in the NDT industry and by all trades. A fair man, a good worker and a good union brother. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. Doug Mitchell, Team Sarnia,
I wish to leave a special message to Rich’s father, Herb, whom I have not seen since he attended Maple Lane School. As soon as I saw the surname, I thought I might recognize a much older member of the Oakes family.Hopefully, it will offer some small consolation to a dad who was a delightful kid to know when I had the privilege to be his teacher.
I feel very badly, Herb; and I will be thinking of you
Respectfully,
wayne weaver

So very sorry to hear of Rich’s passing, I knew him from the mx track, he was a kind and gentle person. We will miss him very much at the races, our hearts and prayers go out to all of his family and friends, Rest in peace Rich
We knew Rich from motocross as well. Our sons raced together. No “Motodad” be more supportive of his son than Rich was. He was always kind and he never had anything bad to say about any of his and Connor’s fellow racers. Rich, there will always be a gate for you on the the line and a happy memory of you in our hearts.
My condolences to your family. I hope the memories you have will take you through these sad times.
I was extremely sadness on hearing of the passing of my friend Richie, my heart goes out to Barb and the kids. I will always remember how such a quiet guy could be so funny with his quick wit and impersonations that will never be forgotten. It’s hard to believe he’s gone.
My thoughts and prayers will always be there Richie for Barb , Sadie, Connor and you . I’m sure your playing on a greatest hockey team beyond.
