It is with sadness we announce the passing of Elizabeth (Liz) Lightfoot at age 97 on Sept. 12, 2026, in Goderich, Ontario.
Predeceased by her beloved husband of 61 years, Graham (Knobby) Lightfoot in 2011. Loving mother to Cathi and Danny (Sherri). Doting Nanny and Nana to Gillian (Kyle), Alex (Jenny), Carly (Mike), Carrie (Cole) and Baya (Chad). Treasured Great Nanny to 10 great-grandchildren and Aunt Liz to many nieces and nephews.
Liz was born on June 24, 1929, to Domnica Cupic and Todor Ascenuik in Hamilton, Ontario, and grew up with younger siblings William, Mary and Eileen.
A generous and caring person, Liz always put the needs of others ahead of her own. Happiest around her family, even at the end her face would light up when she saw her family, especially the little ones.
When she was young, Liz was always well dressed and loved to go dancing at the clubs to Big Band music and enjoyed long walks around the Bay. Hard working and a “Jill of All Trades”, Liz worked various jobs, including at Westinghouse, in accounting, jewelry sales and court reporting, as well as managing her household and returning to school in her 40s.
Liz and Knobby raised their family in Dundas, and their house was a hub for neighbourhood kids. Liz was a great cook who cultivated a large garden, making jam and canned fruit each fall. When Cathi and Danny were young, Liz and Knobby loved taking them on road trips and camping across Canada and the U.S.
In their golden years, Liz and Knobby enjoyed wintering in Florida, lawn bowling and golfing, with Liz winning several local golf tournaments. More recently, Liz and Cathi enjoyed a trip to England and France, touring sites and art galleries. Liz was also an avid reader, crocheter and sewer.
Although she would never call herself one, Liz was an amazing artist. Inspired by nature, and the Group of Seven, her beautiful paintings hang in the homes and offices of many family members.
Heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Southbridge LTC and Harbour Hill RC for taking such good care of Liz during her final years. Thank you to Dr. Don Neal and NP Kari Johnston for their excellent and compassionate care.
Cremation has taken place. Liz will be laid to rest at Grove Cemetery in Dundas, Ontario, with her beloved Knobby, in a private family ceremony.
